"strength is developed by exercises that use LOTS OF JOINTS and LOTS OF MUSCLES, moving lots of weight over a LONG RANGE OF MOTION... Fundamental strength exercises like the squat, press, deadlift, bench press along with the power exercises like the clean and snatch, always form a basis of any S&C program that is actually useful to an athlete..this is true precisely because these exercises are quite non-specific- they develop useful strength and power that can be applied to any athletic context"

@xXxDaTruDyNastyxXX As everyone already knows...bounce bench is when the lifter drops the weight down onto to their chest with enough speed to bounce the bar off their chest, using momentum rather than strength to press more weight than they can by touching or pausing the bar on their chest. At heavier weights (500+ lbs) bouncing is hard to do, but the UCLA football team is benching light weight incorporated with a bounce off the chest to add a few pounds to their maximum bench press.

Tendons and ligaments are only at 30% maximal tension at 100% maximal muscle tension!!! Squatting below parallel and leading with the hips are ESSENTIAL to the squat. The hamstring will not fully engage until at or below parallel which aid in the effort of securing the femur from sliding in front of a sheering the patela, meniscus, etc. Plus going to maximal depth increases the range of motion of the exercise building way more strength then quater squats!
@attilaezsias246411 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised you guys don't do deadlift testing!
@lburdeos46413 жыл бұрын
Squatting does not have to be to parallell-The lineman or running back is not below parallel when blocking. Tackling is low with driving the hips and legs into and driving the opponent to the ground!! The base for a football is low hip combined with hip and leg drive!! Shoulder- strength-bench pressing-including incline benching is a big benefit The power clean works sheer power! Excellent for football The bruins will succeed in football!!

@worldwidewinter Outstanding and thank you for your compliment. Not only am not a prepubescent-but a sapiential individual who recognizes that erudition is indispensable to fathoming the "strength and conditioning" insights of contemporary lifting. Yes, I am an adherent to the "treasure trove." Interesting, you maintain that I never addressed your concerns-wrong I have repeatedly done so. I am not incurable; perhaps you and I advocate on differing methods which results in pellucid facts

Awesome gym and some very strong athletes there. To my great surprise, the power cleans in this video aren't as bad as in many other football S&C videos (though there is still a lot of lateral splitting with the legs, catching the bar on your wrists and just muscling the bar up). However why are all those "record" squats so high? The guy at 5:00 is just barely bending his knees a bit, in no way is that a squat.

@eizeman Correction: the football team is 1-2 . Maybe you should limit your boasting- "can lift more than any of the records." If you can lift, be excessive in your accomplishments, not denigate or slander the athletes in their developmental stage
@Hawkpeter114 жыл бұрын
Making a mockery of barbell lifting. Is it too much to ask for a few things from college football weight rooms. Squatting is below parallel otherwise its a curtsey. If your spotters are bicep curling the same bar your are pressing then it doesn't count. If you have to do the 'ol star jump reverse curl clean with scramble foot recovery then maybe you should take some weight off the bar and learn how to clean effciently

And the power clean is a test of POWER not maximal strength(im not saying the "power" in "power clean" refers to this however it's actually the depth of reception of the bar) some athletes i know are extremely strong but couldn't translate that strength in the olympics lifts at first because of lack of power development, mobility, nuero-muscular coordination, flexibility and early technique limitations...

@worldwidewinter I think you miscomprehend football and such proficiency talents as tackling. Let me apprise you of college football games-observe the method of tackling-high to low. Observe the blocking, too In addition, let me dissent, the "squat" can be a quarter, half or "full." The football team, the lineman, linebackers, running backs, kickers, punters, have specific requirements for their position. the squat,in contrast to your defamatory comments develops hips-thighs-not upper body
@worldwidewinter13 жыл бұрын
@lburdeos464 Mark rippatoe isnt the only coach who believes strength isnt trained through sports specific movements..EVERY COACH with a brain does!! even this coach does! thats why hes using bench press, completely not specific to any motion in football(especially considering the kinetic chain of ALL upper body movements in athletics start from the ground) but a decent STRENGTH building exercise.so why is he using the bench press if he is tailoring his squats to mimic tackling and blocking then?

@lburdeos464 if you knew even one single thing about training you would know that strength training is meant to be GENERAL. let me quote one of the best S&C coaches mark rippatoe "so the concept of specificity has its limitations, while training should be relevant to the goal at hand in terms of selecting exercises that develop the muscles/movements used in the sport, it is neither necessary nor desirable to exactly mimic either a sport skill or the exact metabolic demands in the weight room...
