I just decided this year I want to get into screenwriting, at the age of 40. I'm going through all the rudimentary learnings and just came across the screenplay for Collateral. I decided to watch the first sequence of the movie and literally cried at the 10 minute mark when he gives her his postcard. It blew my mind how much emotion you can pack into the feeling of gratitude for a character's heart in only the first 10 minutes, and how much that probably elevates the realness/interest balance of the character, as well as elevating every scene thereafter. I now think the first 10 minutes of Collateral have changed my trajectory as a screenwriter and what I should be focusing on. Thanks Stuart and thanks Anna for the interview!
