When Im going to buy loudspeaker, instead being fooled by naive revievs, Im going to the shop and compering the sound of different loudspeakers and brands..Like you have prooved,sometimes the cheaper product sounds better than the more expensive.. I bought a UE boom in 2013 and loved it for many years. It finally died and it was time to buy a new one....didn't know anything about speakers, figured why not just get the latest and greates similar UE and then someone pointed me to your channel. The charge 5 is a mono speaker and every song feels like its missing something. Certainly the sound is "beefier". But it's also very inconsistent depending where you're standing. The UE Megaboom is stero and sounds so much more immersive and accurate. It also stays consistent no matter where you're standing. Overall its just so much better for a little take anywhere speaker. If you want something that really thumps, just get a Partybox.

I've had both the UE Megaboom and the UE Megablast. When I first got the megablast I was surprised to discover that my older megaboom was just as bass heavy if not heavier than the newer megablast. The newer speaker was just louder and more clarity thanks to tweeters. I think the UE speakers value comes with 360° sound and being super durable because I have abused my UE speakers very much and they have been reliable.

Great review. I admit I was a little sad. I remember being impressed by the Megaboom 3 way back so I was expecting a better sound. Yep, originally bought the UE Megaboom 3 drawn in by the rave reviews all over the internet (including on KZbin) along with the marketing claim of "Thundering Bass". Got it back home and set it up next to my Old UE boombox (from 2012) and was blown away how much the newer UE Megaboom 3 sounded like a clock radio (to me) in comparison to my elderly UE Boombox. Downloaded the Official App and tried unsuccessfully using the Equalizer to get the sound clarity and bass response anywhere what I would personally consider near to that of my old UE Boombox. Emailed UE support, but never heard back. Returned the UE Megaboom 3 back to the retailer for a full refund after unsuccessfully trying to convince myself for a week that the sound wasn't too far behind my old UE Boombox. Upon returning it, another (random) customer instore overheard the conversation between myself and the store rep and jumped in to affirm that he too returned his UE Megaboom 3 for the same issue (at a different store).

I bought the UE megablast a few years on prime day. The thing about the megablast is that I find the treble and mids very nice and comfortable to my ears. In fact, I personally prefer it to any JBL speaker and my motion +. Unfortunately it had the same 'problems' this speaker has in that the bass doesn't do it for me.
@alanrossreviews3 жыл бұрын
well it wouldnt need to be great to be better than the megaboom!
@damienlobb853 жыл бұрын
The Megablast has proper tweeters. I think they put for care into component selection with the Megablast. But some reason UE doesn't bring the weighty bass, instead favoring the upper bass and using psycoacoustic bass harmonics to fake lower bass similar to what some small laptops do.

with full range drivers no need for crossover so much easier to setup. tweeters of course only have to handle the highs so in theory with a decent setup will sound better.

Doesn't it make sense that the Base Mode, or by manually increasing the lower frequencies, everything else is lowered instead? That way you're always getting the maximum amount of low end out of the Speaker (which is what basically is desired out of such a small speaker) and you just 'tune' it to suit your taste. Otherwise it would just lower the quality of the low frequencies I can imagine.

I still have my original Megaboom and still think it sounds great. I love that it has a balanced range and isn't swamped with bass. How good a speaker sounds is subjective.
@alanrossreviews11 ай бұрын
subjective within limits. you may like a bad speaker thats fine. but for example if its distorting awfully but you dont mind the distortion thats fine but objectively its not a good speaker. taste is subjective, good music is subjective but a good speaker is objective. you may not like extended bass even though you miss a ton of the original music if your speaker cant play deep but that doesnt make it a good speaker. i judge speakers at their price point.
@mdluk19910 ай бұрын
@@alanrossreviews obviously if the speaker distorts it's objectively bad but the megaboom can go loud and still sound great. Almost every review I've seen for it has been overwhelmingly good but better than reviews I trust my own ears which is the only way to actually judge any speaker.

@@alanrossreviews Just for a bit of balance Tom's Guide : For most people, the UE Megaboom is the best portable Bluetooth speaker to buy. It has excellent sound, can handle the elements, plays for a long time on a charge and can pair with other UE speakers for stereo sound. If you plan to take your speaker with you a lot, this one may be too big. In that case, the $99 UE Wonderboom 2 might be a better match. On the other hand, if you don't ever plan to move your speaker, you can get better sound from larger (and more expensive) speakers, such as the $250 Riva Arena or $250 Marshall Acton II. And, of course, if you want a speaker that supports Alexa or Google Assistant, the Megaboom isn't for you. But if you pick the Megaboom, you won't be disappointed. What HiFi Verdict The Megaboom is a great addition to UE’s family of wireless speakers. It's one of the more polished performer in the range. Battery life and build quality are excellent, and whether you use it indoors or outside, you’re in for a musical treat. Sound guys As I’d hoped, the UE Megaboom not only keeps what was already good about the original UE Boom, but improves on it by making it fully waterproof and boosting the already-impressive battery life. That said, the most important upgrade here is the sound. The Megaboom can’t quite compete with the biggest players in its price range, but it is still an excellent sounding speaker with a lot to offer. Expert Reviews Ultimate Ears Megaboom review: Battery life & verdict Battery life was excellent, thanks in part to its large 3,600mAh battery. We managed more than 15 hours of playback at medium volume before needing a charge, putting the UE Megaboom up there with the Bowers & Wilkins T7 for longevity. There’s not much to dislike about the UE Megaboom provided you’re happy with a very warm, bassy sound and its large size. Its IPX7 rating, 360-degree sound and punchy, fun sound are impressive, and if you want to get a bigger-sized UE Wonderboom speaker, this is it.

You know what, if you work in construction site you will find megaboom and ue boom are the most popular blue tooth speakers using in those environment. In open space, you can't always receive heavy bass. most time you only get mid and upper bass which makes ue most popular products. Use to have Anker soundcore plus. It is not as portable, rigid light weight as ue, can't stand vertically, mid going to thin while ue mega can keep steady sound output, maybe muffle as you said. Most reviewer actually have too many speakers, they are hardly really use one speaker and use it long enough in special environment with all sorts of sound files which make them justify Bluetooth speakers with HiFi speaker standard and couple of days experience. As I know Bluetooth speaker needs to be fitted into your flexible life styles. For example, Soundcore plus is your champion but out door performance is poor for walking around listening. At maximum sounds sharp, scratching ears. As Indoor using, Soundcore plus is not good for it's tuning, no matter what kind of eq combination I tried. And worse thing, the Soundcore plus has coarse sound, and distortion in some tracks. In second hand market megaboom can be resell much easier than Soundcore motion plus. Bluetooth speaker should not only be some reviewer's toy, although I agree with your most comments are 100%right on ue products but please try to find why ue is so popular.

i can only give my general opinion on the speakers i try. i try to give enough information including form factor that allows people to decide if it suits their scenario. i do use all my speakers that i recommend. i do not try first and leave them like some other reviewers.

Have to agree that the UE Megaboom 3 sounds terrible. Its only saving graces are the Bluetooth range, durability and battery life. I use it in the shower because the awful bathroom acoustics and corner bass trap effect makes it listenable for my morning podcast. You just can't use it for any kind of semi-serious music listening, and the fake EQ is the most embarrassing thing I've ever come across. The one-touch playlist feature is also pointless! And here's a tip for any unfortunate fellow owners: Keep your source device with you because you cannot dismiss alarms or silence alerts remotely using the speaker. I've had to switch the speaker off during several showers when an alarm or timer has gone off and I wasn't able to get to the phone to dismiss it. 😩

Funny I was the opposite. I returned the Charge 5 because I can't stand the sound of Mono. Every songs feels like it's missing something. I have to have Stereo for a single take anywhere speaker. Sure the JBL had a lot more beefy sound but I think it's not projecting songs completely. The UE plays everything accurately and has better directional consistency, which I value more in a single little take anywhere speaker. When I want to rock my house I just use my Partybox. Right tools for the right job lol
