Insane tutorial quality. Good mic. No earrape rockmusic in the background. Little to none background noise. Relevant information, explained in a quick and easy to learn manner. 9/10.

Hello! I'm new at this, but for anyone who have been wondering how to use the Subtract geometry tool like the video. Be sure to use Brushes on World/Scene Outliner instead of StaticMeshActor. Also you may need to create a new Subtractive brush after making a new Additive brush. I may be talking goofy here since I'm a rookie on UE4 (and my english won't help too), but this seems working for me so far.

this was very helpful to get the basics! I havent worked with BSP since probably 2005 back in UE2 lol

Is there a way to work with brushes in a blueprint? Make some sort of an architecture based on a procedure and turn them to static meshes ?

hm, good tutorial, but its not really working for me. i made sure i created the additive box first, but when i put a subtractive sphere into it, it didnt work :/

What do we do if we don't have a middle mouse button? I can't use anything in UE4 where the middle mouse button is required, I don't have one. LM and RM only.

I never ever used mouse3 in Unreal Engine 4.
@jens24817 жыл бұрын
You can change the controls i think in some settings (make let's say O represent middle mouse)

how are you able ot move geometry like that, when I add a cube its stuck there forever, all I can do it move a selection box that is the same shape and size
@brendaquijano10167 жыл бұрын
You need to go to edit>editor preferences>Level editor>Miscellaneous>under editing, click the second and third boxes to update BSP after every move.

when i try to make a subtractive it does not cut a hole in the wall
@bmcostello9 жыл бұрын
JamoKin97 The order that you make stuff matters. You have to add the additive wall first.

How to import udk project to unreal 4

I wouldnt use BSP for anything more comples than rooms and windows these days, and later replace them with meshes anyway. It just take too long time to make anything good with them.

I tried these key/mouse combos to work with the pivot in v4.8.1 and they don't work as shown in your video. The "Pivot" menu item doesn't appear at all and i can't find it anywhere else in the r-click menu. I also noticed that ALT+MMB+Drag works for moving the pivot around in any view incl perspective. Doing in on just one axis handle constrains movement and in the centre (perspective only) allows free movement. Apart from that - I like your clear and concise commentary, keep'em coming! Well done and appreciated.

Xen Xennon I just took a look in 4.8 and found that I needed to do LMB + MMB in perspective now as well. Pivot menu item is there still but only shows up after have selected an orthographic view and then re-selected the BSP and lastly right-click for menu.
@bmcostello9 жыл бұрын
Brigid Costello Yes and as you say ALT +MMB + Drag works too.

Brigid Costello I tried again in 4.8.1 and must say the LMB+MMB combo feels really weird and awkward. Having said that, I still can't get the "Pivot" menu item to appear in the context menu regardless of which keys I use or which viewport I use. I also notice that there seems to be a lot of confusion and conflicting advice on the forums as to whether or not the pivot menu item appears or not and in which version it does so. From what I've seen, the behaviour in v4.4.x seems the most intuitive in that it appears immediately after moving the pivot and right-clicking anywhere in the viewport and allows you to make the new position permanent. I don't know why they changed that method.

Xen Xennon Weird. The pivot move thing doesn't seem to be something Epic are actively supporting, maybe that's why it is flaky. I'm on a Mac using a Launcher download of 4.8.1. To get it to show I was in 4 view mode and clicked on one of the orthographic views (this gives it a yellow select line around the outside). Then I clicked on my BSP object in the World Outliner to select it. Then I right clicked on an empty space in that orthographic view. If you select something else that is not a BSP or have nothing selected it doesn't show.

Brigid Costello Nup! I followed your moves and that pivot entry just does not show up in the menu. As soon as I r-click in the window, the menu appears (without Pivot option) and dismissing the menu resets the pivot back to its original position. I even tried r-clicking on the BSP and the widget itself as well as an open area of the viewport - all with exact same results. It would seem that there's a difference between Mac and Windows versions.
