MMA H.E.A.T.'s Karyn Bryant spends a few moments backstage at #UFC 126 with actor/Lawman/Aikido enthusiast #StevenSeagal and gets his thoughts on his dear friend Anderson Silva's victory over Vitor Belfort. Seagal talks about how proud he is, how long he's been training Silva, the comparisons between the middleweight champ and Bruce Lee and whether or not Silva is the greatest MMA fighter ever.

I trained Aikido in Osaka for a short while, and learned that my masters star pupil at the time fought Seagal in tournaments as he was a rival Masters star pupil and said he was a very strong fighter that had tremendous skills. Many do not give Aikido the credit, but the ground work with locks and submmisions will definitely have someone tap before they even know it. I agree, Seagal intro'd the front kick to Anderson, not as a muay thai push kick, but a karate front kick which is new to UFC.

People just talk shit about Seagal. So ignorant about true spirit of Martial arts or the zero understanding of Aikido. MMA fighters do what they do because they want to fight in a competition level. Aikido practitioners learn their form for self defense and in the spirit of Aikido, practitioners do not compete. It comes down to choice. Aikido allows a practitioner to practice Aikido until they are very old. In MMA, you'd be retired by 35 from all the beating to the head and body. MMA is no different to 2 people bashing each other on the streets. .. You'd end up with one getting beaten up. Unless you are an Aikido practitioner, you won't understand what Seagal is talking about.
@dukeslaps
@dukeslaps 10 жыл бұрын
BJJ is the most effective jiu jitsu, thats why you see it working in mma, even if seagal knew any jiu jitsu it would be all japanese which is mostly standing and only works on drunk people, wtf is your point with this aikido practitioner shit lmfao, seagal would gas in a minute if he fought anyone he sweats just doing an interview..... lmfao. Seagal hasn't even fought anyone other then getting choked out by lebell in 6 seconds. Oh and van damme challenged seagal after seagal was being disrespectful and saying he could beat anyone up, seagal pussed out and left and lmfao at aikido retards being like oh well hes a good person hes not going to fight anyone. Ok then why was he talking shit at the party saying he could beat everyone up? stallones words not mine it was his house party hes got no reason to lie. I got a guy in my bjj class that said he did aikido, says its useless compared to bjj and its more of a cult where they try to make you think your good and getting better so you keep spending money to train there, not everyone in aikido realizes this sadly and some people probably like you will keep practicing aikido not knowing its ineffective against anyone that trains a real martial art. You can say aikido is good, you can say japanese JJ is good but whens the last time you saw someone get subbed on there feet? MMA is reality of course theres some effective stuff you can't do like eye gouges nut shots back to the head shots and certain elbow strikes but thats for safety. You can make all the excuses you want for aikido but im sorry to say its nothing different then me creating my own art and saying its deadly but its not allowed in the ufc, and it will be just as much BS as claiming aikido is effective. I wish you the best in learning the real truth and eventually learning an effective martial art, and if you do ever realize the bs involved in aikido(which can even be researched because its a fact) I hope you tell your aikido friends so they can stop wasting time and money as well

I am so proud of Steven Seagal. I taught him that front kick 40 years ago and now he passes it on to Anderson Silva. I learned that front kick from the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, who mastered it by watching an armless midget flush a urinal.

I saw the fight between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, and maybe I'm lacking some knowledge when it comes to the finest subtleties of martial art, but what I saw was a perfectly timed front kick delivered to the jaw. So if this was a different type of kick "coming and perfected by the grand masters of Karate and Jiu-Jitsu" as being told by Mr Seagal, I'd like to know how it differs from a conventional front kick taught to any Karate white belt around the world.

Seagal didn’t want to reveal the secret front kick but Silva held Seagal by his ankles upside down over a bucket full of black paint and slowly began lowering Seagal’s head into the bucket. As you can see, Seagal gave in after about five inches.

He obviously didnt teach him a front kick, I agree with you there. But if you watch the video of him training with silva, they do practice the kick, which makes me think that he did have SOMETHING to do with it appearing in this fight.

'He was raised in Japan under the greatest Karate master and Ju Jitsu masters' - there is precious little Ju Jitsu in Japan. Judo pushed it to the margins. Odd that Seagal doesn't mention his Aikido training in Japan. Perhaps he's "a Stranger to Truth" ?

So, this what mma fans do huh, they watch a video and jump on a person as if they know the individual so well and belittle them... I have so much respect for Silva in how humble he is, testament to the type of person he is in even asking Seagal to show him some other forms of a martial art All you UFC fans who disrespect people like Seagal or anyone for that matter, give ufc and mma a bad rep...

About the ridicule about the "front kick" :))) Segal really helped Machida and Silva with this punch. He showed them one of the options for the strategic implementation of this, showed an aspect. What has been confirmed in practice - two knockouts with this particular punch from two different fighters after work with Segal. Before that, they did not have this. Not a coincidence, but an obvious fact! Therefore, later did not spread much about this, which is understandable - sport and business requires the rules of the game and they need to promote what brings them profit and image.
