Strickland fights as if playing chess. Most people think that chess is boring, but the ones who are into it understand the depth of the game and what it's about. He beat a fighter like Costa down for 5 rounds. Astonishing defense, took absolutely minimal damage and got the win. In my book that's a hell of a win and whoever calls it boring and lackluster might want to switch to the slapping fights.

The last seconds of the fight, what do you see? Same as DDP fight. He can't land a hook or an overhand, even less so if he's trying to put power into it. Opponent backs up, comes forward, whatever, he doesn't know how to not spar. The difference is the guys who understand the lack of power/threat, and the guys who give it too much respect. Honestly, Strickland does have some fun fights every now and then. Him vs Hall was a pretty dang good scrap (seriously, rewatch it), Imavov & Magomedov were fun as well, the Marshman fight was nice, DDP of course, and even the Allen and Jotko fights were pretty decent. Now, what did most of these guys do? They actually threw punches back and tried to get some forwards momentum against Strickland (every now and then for some of them), none of them did the Izzy. Strickland seriously shines with opponents like Hall & Marshman. Guys that just meet him in the middle and then start boxing with him for the entirety of the fight.

So many people are saying Sean Strickland vs Paulo Costa was boring, but I found it to be a solid fight. Seeing how Sean can just shut people down completely was impressive. Maybe it wasn’t the flashiest fight but I enjoyed it none the less. In general I just enjoy Strickland’s fight style, sure it ain’t flashy but it’s very technical and I enjoy that type of fight.

Oleksiejczuk posted after the fight that his arm wasn’t broken. You can’t break your arm from an armbar. (Mir is an exception because he’s a heavyweight and didn’t have it fully sunk in when he hipped into it.) You can only dislocate it, which only tears the UCL. Guru I think you’re wrong about Sean being in range of everyone. He makes it very difficult by keeping you perfectly at his kickboxing range and moves in and out of it to evade and stuff. I mean Leon Edwards comes to mind. Edwards' defensive wrestling + elite striking + height and size advantage would be enough to beat Makhachev. I told everyone he would beat Usman and Colby easy too, but people thought Leon was bad, just because he gassed out in the one fight against Usman in high altitude. Guru I get that people can win fights with broken arms and legs and many times people have won fights by disguising an injury (jones vs Belfort) but when the ref sees a break occurring you can't blame them for stopping the fight.
