Just on the point of this being an easy fight. This fight was first given to Arman but Arman declined coz 2 months wasn't enough to prepare for Arman. I don't think he has a hard fight with anyone stylistically. It's just Dustin was available.

11:14 Poirier was granted this title shot due to timing advantage, Makhachev said he wants to fight Gaethje on March ufc 299 before Ramadan, but ufc declined because they had O'Malley for main event, then asked Makhachev to fight on ufc 300 even though Makhachev warned ufc that he can't fight during Ramadan so he needed to fight before but ufc still declined it for O'Malley. If Gaethje or Arman/Oliveira were available for June 1 ufc 302, Makhachev was going to fight them on June 1. For example Jon Jones is picking an easy fight with 42 years old Stipe (who is also very inactive in last 3 years) instead fighting interim champ Aspinall who is available to fight Jon Jones. UFC needed big fights for UFC 300, so they make that BMF fight with Gaethje/Holloway and also Oliveira/Arman, which took 2 top contenders from Makhachev's next fight on June 1 since Makhachev wants to be active and fight 2 times in 1 year he doesn't want to wait, only available top contenders was Poirier, and maybe Gamrot but Gamrot isn't a big name for being a top contender so choosing Poirier is natural.

That is very true, but offering Arman to fight Islam on little notice is a clever tactic. Arman isn't an idiot of course he needs more time. Ali A. is not an idiot, Dustin is very beatable and a massive star in mma. I'm not complaining, there's still a slim chance of Dustin winning. But yes, maybe I need to see Islam fight Leon Edwards to really get excited. We know how good he is, so lets see a bigger challenge.

Great analysis with Islam thank you for saying that he accomplished more in Sambo than Khabib at a younger age. Got to remember Khabib is older so of course in their younger days he's going to have more accomplishments and is viewed as the better fighter, but now shit I'll take Islam, much he has much less weaknesses, but he doesn't have quite the strength on the top top control ground and pound, but everything else is spot on vs. khabib

My biggest concern for Dustin in this fight is his style of takedown defense. At American Top Team, they specialize at wall-walking and just using the fence to work their way back to their feet after getting taken down. The problem is that you're still up against the fence, which is where Islam wants you to be with his style of wrestling. He, like Khabib, pins people against the fence, dragging them to the mat. It works well because if you can smush someone up against the fence, control their wrists and triangle the legs, you take away their ability to threaten you with submissions. But it also means that if their opponent gets up, they're still on the fence in a losing position. For someone who uses the fence as much as Dustin to get back up after takedowns, I'm concerned he's just going to be stuck on the fence, alternating between getting taken down and pinned against the cage. I hope he wins though, with a guillotine too, lol.

.. So that's what it is! I've always felt ATT didn't prep Dustin well for his championship fights with Khabib and Charles. I hope he goes out there and fights in the moment, letting his hands go early before Islam gets into his rhythm. Dustin has been hanging out of the fence too much, u r right ... he likes to just stand there for the first round.. so I wouldn't be surprised to see Islam finish him in the first even by KO.

Dustin about 1 out of 10 times, but that's really slim.. after seeing Islam's training in the mountains and Khabib there with him, it kinda feels more like zero chance now. lol yes I can see that scenario if Dustin does win this time. I wanted to tell you something funny. I got in a fight with a bouncer on Monday and have been in jail until last night. It was a gentleman’s duel with a bouncer but he legit was a judoka because I asked him after. He slipped all my punches and kept taking me to the pavement hard. I have scrapes all over like a motorcycle accident. Then the most interesting part. After being put in jail I was in a cell with a crazy person - but he sounded *I swear to god* just like Sean Strickland. He even talked about wanting to kill people. It was equally an exciting, and horrific experience.

I got Islam by round 3 sub. 1st and 2nd round I think Dustin will survive against the cage but he will get drained quickly. Islam doesn't have the same top control or ground and pound as Khabib. He's more patient than Khabib, so there's less pressure and pace. However, I think he'll dominate every grappling exchange and it's only a matter of time before Poirier slips up and exposes his neck or gets into a terrible position.

Khabib he more like ground pound after that if he gets opportunity to submit he submits, but other hand Islam he chase the submission and that’s why Dustin is not a good match up like a guy who chase the submissions. No wonder why he chase the submissions because his name “Islam” literally means submission.
