From what I remember, Max took this fight on less than one weeks notice. This was his UFC debut as well so he was basically a last minute fill in and likely wasn’t physically or mentally prepared enough for this level of competition. He gassed out after the first and got beat down in the second round. Dana White actually defended him in the press conference after the event. Basically saying when a fighters done, they are done. No point in getting further damaged to just appear tough. Max has come out after the fact that he was very depressed after this and stopped training for a while, deleted his social media and didn’t leave his home. He realized he needed to work on himself mentally and that he was fighting for all the wrong reasons. Now he has started training again and I think has a fight coming up in a smaller promotion.

Idk specifics of this dudes fight, if he's injured or has too much pain sure understandable ive been there, ive tapped out many times, cracked ribs, partially torn ligiments etc. But idk man, dudes not a fighter if he just gives up cause he feels outclassed. Wants the big stage then quits, get the opportunity that fighters dream of then quit? At that point you're not a fighter imo. Again i don't know specifics, but hope the best for the dude. He was brutally honest with himself and knew he wasn't ready at that level. The people giving him shit don't know nothing about fighting, that shit is not a game. He was smart enough to fall back and fight another day. That bout could have potentially ended his career and given him irreversible damage or worse. He's also still active as of recently and went 2-1 in his last three fights. Hopefully he can get another chance to prove himself when he's ready.

I agree and I disliked the fact that his corner didn't have his back. He repeatedly said he's done. I think he knows his body and capabilities better than them. He's being smart and not taking extra damage, possibly a concussion due to knockout.

@@TheMulatto83 Maybe do some research, he is on record having said his coach did nothing wrong and that it was his own personal self doubt that made him not go out there. He knew he could do it, but deep down he didn't deserve it or whatever. Truly it is funny to me how many people respect this guy for giving up on himself. The only thing his coach did wrong was not instill a bit more belief in him. He himself said he pays his coaches to do exactly what they did.

This is why it's so important to have a good trainer who knows anything and everything about his fighter. It's a fine line between knowing when he just needs the pep talk or if he is truly done, be it from a physical reason or mental. If the fighter is done and out of it mentally, it can be dangerous to send them out for another round.
