@madgavin75683 жыл бұрын
I really do think a prime Chris Weidman could and probably would beat Izzy today. Weidman fared pretty well against elusive counter-strikers thanks to his cage-cutting, patient striking, strong wrestling and Jiu Jitsu skills. He was a bit reliant on his chin though, which against more aggressive and explosive fighters like Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero proved his undoing.
@dawg47693 жыл бұрын
@@madgavin7568 I think Izzy would knock him out prime or not the games evolved a lot
@madgavin75683 жыл бұрын
@@dawg4769 The game has evolved somewhat yes, but Chris Weidman's style is still a nightmare matchup for Izzy as Chris' style was tailor made to fight Anderson Silva who has a similar style as Izzy. Weidman would have done things to Izzy other Middleweights today are not doing, for instance clinching up when Izzy's back is against the cage, pressuring him constantly and also cutting off the cage to nullify his elusive footwork. Checking leg kicks and performing takedowns in the open are also keys to victory for him as well. Robert Whittaker would probably knock Weidman out because he's a stylistic nightmare for him. But against Izzy? Prime Weidman has the best shot out of any Middleweight presently to beat him, in fact I'd go as far as to favour him in that matchup.

@joebenson5282 жыл бұрын
@@madgavin7568 And the fact that his wins against Silva were not as decisive as Israel's was. Yeah he got a KO in the first one but that was after Anderson was picking him apart for the entire fight and decided "this guy isn't on my level" and chose to showboat and got caught. And of course the second win was a freak accident. But he went on to have one of the top 3 best MW title reigns of all-time (Anderson and Israel are 1 and 2), he didn't waste those two blessings.
@madgavin75682 жыл бұрын
@@joebenson528 Stop the revisionist history please. Silva was not 'picking him apart', Weidman was winning the fight off of activity. Also, Silva always used to fight like that in the past and rack up impressive wins to the point fans praised him for being 'in the zone'. Fickle fans only changed their tune once Silva lost. Did he take it up a notch against The Chris? Yes, but that was purely intentional as he was doing everything he could to make Weidman frustrated so he would make a mistake and Silva would capitalize with counters. Only The Chris was prepared for it so the taunting backfired. Both his wins against Silva were decisive because they were finishes and he was winning both fights. Second fight had a freak one in a million outcome, but Weidman was still winning that fight even more handily than in the first fight as he nearly finished Silva against with strikes in the first round after he rocked and dropped Silva off a clinch break. Silva fought worse in the rematch because his confidence was shattered from the KO, and his coaches will attest that Silva fights best when he's most confident.

Chris Weidman used to have a great Ring IQ not until the Rockhold fight where he did one mistake this guy would have no doubt broken Silva's record already and probably still the champ had he not lost the rockhold fight and kept improving.

@@gauban986 nah he was just knocking out the old guard, think about who he really beat. most guys he beat until Anderson haven't been in the UFC for like 5 years. Most agree Anderson would have beaten him in their 1st fight had he it taken serious. Chris can't beat Rockhold, Jacare, Romero, Whittaker, Adesanya, he can't be champion anymore. his versus Michael Bisping would have been a good one, could have gone either way, but I think post USADA Michael beats him
