@DJ4248711 ай бұрын
Yea he came in super focused and on point because of how dangerous Izzy is and how dangerous Sean believed him to be. He was PERFECTLY dialed in and because Izzy is mostly 1 dimensional, Sean only had to focus on Izzy's standup. Sean has to be this dialed in for Du Plessis, understanding that Du Plessis will have more awkward and varied attack, but Sean can still put on a flawless performance like he did against Izzy as long as he understands what he's getting into, has a healthy amount of fear, and efficiently applies pressure like he did against Izzy.

his defense was nearly flawless, but his offense was lacking a bit. his power looked GOOD, he was hurting izzy with minimal shots thrown. the problem is his output just wasn't there. izzy was constantly backing up and disengaging which is hard to deal with, plus he was trying to time sean and counter him. interesting fight, glad izzy lost.

Feints are less effective against constant pressure
@jotchua335475 ай бұрын
Bit late, but Strickland doesn't really feint. He's much more reactive outside of showing the teep with his knee. Izzy's style is at its best when he can slow down the pace and make you react how he expects by showing you specific movements. Sean's style of constant forward movement doesn't give Izzy room or time to set Sean up, and feints only really work when you have someone respecting what you're throwing. Sean refusing to respect the feints when he sees an opening and just throwing is the blueprint to beat tricky fighters like Israel. Not to mention that Sean strategically avoids cutting off the cage in favor of forcing his opponent to take larger, lateral movements that drain their gas tank while preserving his.

Bro its like Strickland had ultra instinct in this fight. His defense and ability to check kicks and parry is just immaculate. I cant stand when ldiots say that izzy looks slow. He literally looks exactly the same here as he's always looked fighting everyone else. Izzy just has never fought someone like Strickland, who has masterful defense and very solid boxing. Izzy had zero answers for Stricklands style... Thats why they say styles make fights. Strickland completely shut him down. He couldnt do anything to Sean. Izzy doesnt look slow at all, he just looks outclassed.

One of those instances where controlling a guy over 5 rounds is every bit as impressive as a flashy finish. Dragged-out kickboxing matches are Adesanya's bread and butter. He hypnotizes guys with his quickness, gets them to just stand there frozen while he chops away, mostly at their legs, for 25 minutes. This kind of fight SHOULD have been right up Izzy's alley, but Strickland just bossed him around all night. Izzy was never really even in this one.

This fight is a testament to the importance of training versatility vs mastering one style. When you go the route of mastering one style you have to be so good at it that it beats everything you will ever face. When you train all areas and become well rounded you have many game plan options. It is a common denominator between all the great dominant champs, DJ, GSP, Jon Jones, they all excelled in every aspect of mma so they could have other paths to victory when they faced an opponent that matched them or was better in a single area. The best thing Izzy could do is just 100% focus on training grappling or alternate striking styles so he can have secondary paths to victory other than his back foot counter striking style.
