I"ll say this, I am 72 years old and I have been a Georgia fan for all 72 of those years. I have been to Georgia/Auburn games at both Sanford and Jordan Hare stadiums more times then I can remember. Yet I can not recall a single game where Georgia and Auburn fans did not treat each other with respect. I can not say the same for Georgia/Tennessee, Georgia/Clemson, Georgia/Ga. Tech, and most of all Georgia/Florida. Those games just bring out the worst in the fans.

UGA vs. AU is one of my favorite rivalries. For many years, it’s been a “Good rivalry” between “Cousin” schools with a ton of upsets. It was also a game where the away team had the advantage. Not so the last 10-15 years. I think this series has gotten a little nastier recently because Kirby and Gus low key don’t like each other. When it’s ugly, it’s ugly. Absolutely despise Auburn when they’re really good. Their fans come out of the woodwork and let you have it.

ALL IN well I would agree with you, but we can’t both be wrong. The Deep South Oldest Rivalry is hardly just some ho-hum game. Even the vast majority of Auburn fans will disagree with you. And Auburn dominated by an eye popping 5-4-1 vs. UGA in the 90’s with that tie breaking a 20 game win streak and with UGA upsetting Auburn in 1996 in the first SEC OT game. But by all means, please tell me how unimportant that was.

Auburn is Georgia's 2nd biggest rivalry with Florida being #1. Some still claim GT is #1 but that all started to change way back when Tech left the SEC. I'll give you that Auburn is holding their own in Georgia with recruiting vs UGA, however they're not recruiting overall at the same level as Kirby Smart and because of that it just makes it even harder now for Auburn to win the SEC and play in the CFP. I'd also add that Kirby is holding his own recruiting the state of Alabama. Pickens flipped on signing day from Auburn and Kirby pulled Clay Webb away from Bama. Recruiting is the reason Auburn can't beat Georgia 50% of the time they play. Auburn fans, like Florida fans, can talk about 1980 all day if it makes them feel better. We'll just sit back with grins as to their justifications to losing to UGA.

Back in the 80s AU still had the Ga. Tech rivalry going. Georgia sometimes slid back to third. And at one point in the late 90s this was the closest rivalry in sports, with the teams being tied in record and only separated by 4 total points in total score.

From LaGrange, my parents went to Auburn and I went to UGA. I think you're dead on. The rivalry has gone from more of a brother rivalry to a hatred bc of Auburn's 2010 and 2013 seasons. It made Georgia jealous and really lead to Richt getting fired bc UGA fans can't have Auburn passing them. They understand Alabama or Florida, but can't handle Auburn passing them.

For one they usually don't move from FL to GA, but there can be quite a few Auburn fans in GA. FL is like the distant cousin you despise, but Auburn is the brother that you hate. I'm not like that with Bama, however watching them lose to LSU was nice this year and then watching them crumble in the Iron Bowl was the icing on the cake! My biggest complaint with Gus is the way the teams seem to pick and choose what games they come to play in. Like the Auburn Georgia game this past year. Also that's 2 bowl games now that we should have won that Auburn lost. I'm a UCF student born in Auburn (My dad is an Alumni) but I've lived in Orlando for 14 years, so I'm pretty annoyed when I wear my shirt in class and someone always reminds me of the 2017 peach bowl.

I think LSU fans kinda feel the same way about Auburn. It isn’t really a natural rivalry, but LSU and Auburn have had so many close, high-stakes, crazy games in the last 30 years that it’s sort of turned into a fierce rivalry. We don’t like each other. LSU is in a weird spot ever since Tulane chose to leave the SEC and de-emphasize athletics, where we don’t really have a natural rival in conference that hates us as much as we hate them. We aren’t anyone’s primary rival. Texas A&M might become that over time, but I doubt it.

Of course Ohio State will always be our arch rival even despite the recent history. That being said, when OSU plays sparty, Penn State, Wisconsin, I cheer for OSU. Why? The exact same reasons for Auburn fans. Why would you want another super power on your schedule and in your recruiting territory? Alabama fan, from SE Alabama (Wiregrass, baby!), MOST of my family are from Smith’s/Phenix City/Columbus area, and are naturally (uggghhh) Auburn fans. You’re right. Columbus/Phenix City is a STRANGE area. Although Phenix City is in Alabama, they observe the Eastern Time Zone, like Georgia. I’ve seen more Auburn tags and flags in Columbus, GA than ANYWHERE outside of Auburn/Opelika. It’s a strange rivalry. As an Alabama fan, I can tell you that I don’t necessarily HATE Auburn. I more or less just disregard Auburn, and get the occasional laugh at their plight. But I DO hate Tennessee, and wish them continued pain and misery. Does THAT make sense?
