Thank you for posting! You are the only ugandan i could find while looking for building houses in Uganda. It is mostly Ghanaians posting. Good job to your peros. Could you do a video with them about the whole experience? Like dos and don'ts and hindsight etc.

@@hopeflower00 Lol, you do certainly understand it well enough to answer. I am a native luganda speaker, so I guess it is hard for me to conceive of how the children of immigrants understand it but can't speak it. Yogera obugambo obutono wano newali (broken luganda) just for practice, no one will fault you. It is the natural way of learning any language, mimick the sounds you understand mpola mpola. There's no blame on your parents for not trying hard enough to teach you, the world is a busy place. But I enjoy to watch what abaana ba bana Uganda think of Uganda when in Uganda. Lol, 😁 seriously y'all look out of place yet somehow do relate to Ugandans. It is a marvel to watch (in my perspective as an immigrant in Amerika)! Most baana ba bana Uganda don't really want to live in Uganda for obvious reasons (but a little vacation in Uganda here and there is OK). Many parents of abaana ba bana Uganda have built vacation homes in Uganda for themselves and their children. But I don't see how those children will continue to vacation in Uganda long after their parents are dead (forgive my mention of death in this conversation). Abaana ba bana Uganda do not consider themselves Ugandans and nor will they ever try to be. I know many who prefer to vacation in Europe, Carribeans, Asia, and South America but will never vacation in Uganda (maybe South Africa maybe) if it weren't for their parents' insistence to visit "home". What is most twisted of all is that these are the same people who applauded the Black Panther movie, blaming the western world for disconnecting them from their African roots. Interesting. They say they want their roots but at the same time they are afraid of it. Please, don't fear Uganda. Don't be scared to try to speak Luganda to your family or to other Ugandans. The country needs development is all (homes like your parents propel that development). Make friends with a native Ugandan to break that "uncomfortability" with the people, language, culture, and the way of life. Personally, nandiyagade okwogera oluganda nawe, ndabire ddala wa obuzibu bwolurimi webuli (how you can understand it better than you can speak it). It must be harder to speak it because most Ugandans speak English anyway. Naye nze nyumirwa nyo okwogera oluganda ewakka wano mu Amerika wendi even if it's mixed up with English. I also want you to know that I'm not language-shaming you. That is fully your prerogative to choose your preferred language of communication. Sadly, I will not have children but if I were to, I would raise them speaking luganda in the home, right here in America. Because I would want them and I to have full, open, expressive communication and the only way to get that deep, fast communication for a Luganda native speaker is through Luganda. Children learn languages fast when they are being spoken to and expected to speak back in same language and corrected grammar-wise. It's how you learned your English and how I learned Oluganda lwange. Please continue to post more videos of your family's time in Uganda. There is bound to be others like me who enjoy to watch a unique situation such as the one you're in. Maybe it's boredom :)
