Great idea! I think we add faint stenciling over some areas next. Right? I really like that idea. It’s often a struggle to dim glossy papers. This method sure does work. More colorful than plain white gesso. Thanks!

This is awesome. I just bought a cheap roller last week and played with paint on paper. I also love to tone down magazine and book pages with paint like that. I used to use brushes until I got the roller. I also used to use gesso with paint in the beginning, but lately I just use straight paint mostly. ☺♥

I also discovered this secret, quite by chance. i used magazine pages to remove excess paint from my brushes and then i noticed i liked those semitransparent weird pages and started using them in collages. My way is to brush darker paint over most unwanted parts of the image first. Then, i use lighter colours to make it writable and less dramatic. I will watch all that youtube can offer on this technique, i am very interested.

Awesome trash to treasure, Kathleen. I admire how you use “trash” to incorporate so well into your journals. Did you place the paint onto paper rather than your mat or a palette because the paper would absorb some of the paint and leave only a thin layer on the brayer? 😀💞
@BeAgainBooks Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Keryn, and yes! You are very intuitive. I usually have three “levels” when I do this. Sometimes I just put it on the glass when I want more paint on the brayer. The next level is just a plain piece of paper, usually trash from the bin. As you mentioned it rolls a bit more paint off the brayer and gives a little lighter touch. I might also use a paper towel to absorb even more paint off the brayer. It just depends on how thinly I want to paint to roll on. I could have explained this, if I had thought of it, haha. Thanks for asking It has just taken some practice and experimenting to learn how light of a touch I want. I would rather start of with less, as you see in the video and build it up if I need, rather than have too much paint to begin with.

Noooo don't paint over the flower illustrations lol!! LOVE the idea to tone down and reuse papers though.. FOR SURE! I am always in search of new and pretty floral illustrations so I was cringing for second on that one but I still like it and of course the others came out great!

Is that a magnetic sheet behind you (in the beginning of the video) with your dies on it? That's a cool idea.
@BeAgainBooks Жыл бұрын
Yes, Andrea. I also have two cookie sheets with the same magnetic “vent covers” from Home Depot hanging in my closet with more dies. I have discovered that the dies cling better when there is metal behind the magnet sheets.

I have seen you do this before and do love how the acrylic tones down the colours on the pages. I wonder if it is okay to do this on any kind of page or do you select sturdier pages. Some magazine pages are too flimsy these days. You always have such helpful tips.
@BeAgainBooks Жыл бұрын
I do it on all kinds of paper Alice, even thinner magazine papers, although the sturdier papers make better pages. Thanks so much for watching.

I have recently found your channel. I love that you are using junk. What would you suggest if a roller is not available? I also love your mood board.💜🐞
@BeAgainBooks Жыл бұрын
Welcome Ila! Thanks so much for visiting. There are small foam paint rollers that may work, but they might be just as expensive than the brayer, to be honest, and the foam will deliver the paint very differently. Dollar Tree might have something, but my local store didn’t. If I didn’t have a brayer, I would use the acrylic paint with a small sea sponge and dab it on - “sponging” it’s called. I do that quite a lot also, actually. I will look through my videos to see if I have demonstrated that. In the meantime, search for sponge painting and there should be something already on KZbin, for sure for walls, but I’m not sure others do paper like I do, haha.
