The power of that scope to show such detail continues to amaze me. But it only works with the skill to use it. Thanks for the lessons and your right, Paul does a great job explaining this capture.

Interesting how a shorted coil will knock out COMMS. Is that because the unused energy feeds back to the PCM on the control side of the primary and/or the power side feed on the secondary and just plays pinball or? The captures were awesome Keith, thanks for sharing this with us! Stay alive brother, you sound like you're exhausted, this damn heat makes um feel twice as difficult-no doubt!

So if all 3 coil strikes are not even that is a sign of a bad coil? This is what i am seeing on the 2012 transit connect that keeps stalling that i asked about a week or so back... First spike is high second and 3rd spike is low on 3 out of the 4 coils.

Not the 3v engine , so easy peasy here
@dtnel5 жыл бұрын
@@NewLevelAuto I was wondering the same on thy spark plugs, wires as we're starting to see the quick diagnosis routes anymore and I at times feel on some they could be skipping over some things. Quick example last fall. 2000 Honda Odyssey, 3 coils misfiring. Replaced all plugs and only 1 coil was acting up. Chalk that to lack of maintenance on the owners part. After that he wound up needing a engine from running it out of oil and then getting the oil changed and thinking that solved his really weak oil pump issue after the fact of the oil change. This was a separate deal from the coils. I guess in Africa (Sudan) they don't believe in changing oil on cars and feel they can go forever as this guy must've felt??? He did the same thing to a car I sold him but I kept blowing his phone up daily so he'd get the oil changed and he finally did then ran it out of coolant and seized up the replaced 3yr ago water pump / timing belt kit on a 98 Toyota Camry. Wondered why I wanted $450 for parts including new radiator as it started leaking and he never noticed but I had and I'd actually told him to get it replaced 3 months prior to pump / belt going out. He had it towed away and went somewhere else to get it fixed as he was mad that I wouldn't front the parts as I was fronting the labor and willing to take payment on the labor.

Wait. That is why my Modus ultra and my coworkers solus edge keeps losing com on fords during cylinder contribution test? It's not a snapon issue? So I really should spend the money (which is alot when converted to CDN with shipping) on the pico?
@betogarzzz63925 жыл бұрын
All u have to do is cycle the key on off and back out of the screen back to the tests menu.. my snap on scanner does that with Fords too so I guess it’s a ford issue

Is it recommended to change the pcm/ecm when we have a shorted primary? Or just change the bad coil(s) n wait for results?
@NewLevelAuto5 жыл бұрын
If amperage goes too high I would recommend a pcm . If the amperage only shoots up to the average amperage of all other coils I would only replace the coil 👍

What are you using for the scope tool? Laptop, other brand scope, ?
@NewLevelAuto5 жыл бұрын
That's a pico scope 4425 running on the Farsight tablet
@dtnel5 жыл бұрын
@@NewLevelAuto oh the farsight tablet. I don't even want to ask what one of those run. I just use a laptop or the Zeus but Snap-On so underpowered the Zeus as they do their tools on the processor side that it Hamstrings the built in scope. It's just a matter of them spending anywhere from $50-$200 more hardware wise and the customer gets a whole lot better experience. MY Bosch, we'll just say if it had Picoscope plugins and a windows OS that would be my go to and I'd sell the Zeus off. Zeus has it's purposes but it's Hamstringing anymore and Snap-On just don't get it. Heck they could offer a board upgrade to something like the i-7 made just for their tool for a couple hundred and I'd do it because of the speed the i-7 brings to the table vs the smaller atom processors you see on scan tools and other cheap laptops. IF I didn't have the contract I'd see what they'd give for trade for the farsight but they probably wouldn't want it either...

Z18xe engines on saab and opel, all aftermarket coils missed ballast resistor, same did opel in the beginning but corrected afterwards and they ‘’forgot’’ to tell the aftermarkey industry. P1600 and P1606 they all want to change the ecu, for nothing at the end, car owners crap out for 40€ more on genuine coil and spend 300€+ on ecus for nothing. STUPIDity in its best!
@liviu20045 жыл бұрын
Common problem on Opel engine z16xep 14 faultcodes generated on coil failure, they swap ecu and cims like crazy out there, cars moving from garage to garage and they all fail to see that smoking coil pack. Stupid!
