This was during an interview where she commented that men were a luxury, not a necessity. We love a self-sufficient, successful queen.

The "Mom, I am a rich man" is a quote from Cher. In an interview in the 80s or 90s, Cher was talking about how, despite her tremendous success, her mom would tell her she needed to marry a rich man. That was her response , "Mom, I am a rich man" meaning whatever you think a rich man could do for her, Cher could do for herself. I am guessing Taylor used that as a jab to the "why aren't you married yet" haters. Plus Cher is pretty iconic in the LBGTQA community.

Google the cast/cameos for this video. There is a lot of stuff packed into this video. It was an anthem to support the LGBTQ+ community. The amount of influencers and stars is pretty crazy. I always understood that this song was also to smooth things over from something Taylor said or did that upset the LGBT community. There is also the Katy Perry issue that is addressed in the video with the hamburger and french fries costumes and them "hugging it out" around the end of this video. There are a lot of references to being "gay" like wearing a crown, not to step on my gown, and more straightforwardly, "...because shade never made anybody less gay."

Not really to smooth things over, but to clarify. She discusses it in Miss Americana, when she basically breaks her father’s hold on her career as she’s changing record labels. She talks about needing to make political statements, to make it clear she’s a feminist, and how horrified she was that her queer friends had to ask if she supported them because they didn’t know. It’s not really a coincidence that this song came out with Lover, either - Big Machine didn’t want her saying anything that “might alienate her country audience.” 🙄 A little after this song came out, she also gave an interview saying that it took her a long time to realize she could advocate for communities she is not a direct member of.
