Problem is he’s not accepted by either side. So when he says “we’re no longer Dane” it’s basically because ubba rejected him, so where else in Dane world are they Gunno go

Discussion was hilarious. 🤣 Uhtred is really just trying to find himself. I too found that I wished his allegiances to the Danes would have been stronger but he has no one to turn too as his family is dead. So his only course is to work with the King of Essex so he can at least regains his lands that was stolen by his uncle.

If he would have just gone with Ragnar and Brida the Danes could have easily taken his kingdom back with him. That's just my opinion though

You will love Uhtred in the end, because he grows, which is kind of the point of this show (as well as England being formed). I stopped watching this show, because I could not root from him in the beginning. Started watching again at the end of season 2 through 3 and went back to season 1. Give him time and give this show some time as well. This is not fantasy but gritty history done with low budget.

So I think the reason Uhtred made these decisions is because he's a Warrior first and has no allegiance to Danes or Saxons. If you look at it this way then his actions make more sense. He's very much not a Saxon/Christian at all. He is very much a pagan/Dane in his heart. But his only real allegiance is to the path of a warrior. Alfred said it best, "Uhtred of Nowhere" because right now he doesn't belong anywhere right now.
