The one you thought might be a Kubrick is actually a mini version of the old MaK (Maschinen Krieger) models of the 80s. I bought one of those mini versions in the early 2000s from Giant Robot when they had a store here in SF (think predecessor to the likes of Super7).

Man, those Action Force figures bring back so many memories for me as a kid. I used to buy mine from my local Post Office. The guy in the white was Baron Iron Blood and was my favourite. He came with a black helmet that covered his whole face. Kracken was a mail away figure which you could get if you cut out the rewards points on the back of the figures cards. I think you needed about 20 points to get Kraken. I was so excited when mine came.

I loved my Action Man - Action force collection. Didn't have a lot, but I had that diver Shark and the Stingray sled. Loved them. I remember them slowly becoming GI Joe Action Force. The mold for Red Laser was the same as Cobra Commander.

I loved Action Force back in the day. I think the Z-Force Radio Operator was my first ever action figure. From memory, the first wave of figures were all individual designs like the pilot and diver you got. I think the infantryman in the plain olive uniform belongs to that wave too. Then the line evolved into the four 'Forces' - Q Forces for underwater missions, Z-Force in the infantry role with green and black camo uniforms, SAS Force in plain black for special operations, and Space Force.

The guy with the white hair and skull and crossbones is Baron Von Ironblood. He was the leader of the Red Shadows. I think that in the Action Force comics he injects himself with snake venom and becomes Cobra Commander and his Major (forgot his name) becomes Destro. This was when Action Force became the actual UK GI Joe and utilised the same figures as the US.

And yes, he's a mad scientist. He has a kind of 'Ned Kelly' mask/helmet that he normally wears. Growing up in the Middle East in the mid-80's, I could not get GI Joe throughout the year (I generally saved all my pocket and birthday money all year to splurge on our annual vacation to the US), but I would, very very rarely, come across Action Force versions of GI Joe characters though the were very expensive. I remember paying $25 US (in 1985-ish) for their version of Dusty (same name, different background/dossier). Great video as I remember the European kids on the playground having the 5 POA.

Totally agree on not focusing on the leader/main guys, I’m the same way, even when I was a kid and we played army, I always had someone else play the captain or general, same goes for figures, the story to the main guys is always already written and flushed out, the lower guys you could use your imagination to build stories

The red diving gear DOES belong with the Q-Force Deep Sea Defender figure. It was attached using blue rubber bands (which were originally included with the figure) with the 'stud' sticking outward. Odd but cheap to produce. Saved them making another unique backpack.

looking forward to your boba-set number 500, i would send you mine, but its my childhood boba fett and i cant bear to part with him (if there was a fire in my house, he would be the first thing i would pick up) those action force figures must have been UK only, i have seen them before, but when i grew up action force were the same as gi-joe, maybe they were only available in the UK because my father travelled extensivally all over europe and always brought me back toys, but i never saw these early action force ones (i live in norway btw) i remember action force replacing star wars around 1985 and from then on it was all about action force for me. my first figures were "airtight" and "barbeque"
