He's a young collector. I don't think he understood in a sense of where some of his stuff was because ebay prices can be tricky and I think the modern carded figure you already gave him each $2-3 more than what I would have and if was up to me, I would have kept those modern stuff because its too early and the market has yet to grow for those.

I think some collectors don't realize, that if they sell on Ebay you are dealing with shipping costs (easily $10-15+ per item), ebay fees 13%, and then...drumroll please.... INCOME TAX which is like 25%? Add it all up, and you are easily losing 40% from an Ebay sale over taking cash from a shop.

As a collector, if you want more for your collection, never sell to a toy store. They have to make money as well. It is best to be a vendor at your local events or sell on your local social media club. On the bright side, I'm glad everyone was happy.

Exactly! Those guys will under value everything you have present and try to sell it for more. I have had to call out a few stores for doing this. I went in and bruised what they had to see if they are selling similar items I had and for how much. I then went in and asked them how much they would take for a few vintage SW and vintage Mego figures, all carded and unopened. The price they gave me was ridiculous. When I showed them what they were selling less pristine figures for that were wrapped in plastic bags, one store owner got upset and told me he doesn’t want me in his shop anymore. I told him he doesn’t need to try to rip people off thinking we don’t know the value of what we have. The other guy tried to play it off and said he didn’t even realize he had some of those items and tried to change his offer. I refused and walked out. I stick to selling things on Ebay.

I will never understand Disney doing that. Now everything they bought or took over is eroding. I think the first whole set of Marvel movies was the best thing that came out of all that but I didn't like what I call the second Thanos movie. In the first one he was like all scary and imposing then, I don't know he died so quickly after. But my gripe there is more about plot. But yea with Star Wars they just took a huge dump on it. you cannot go to a store ; dump all your stuff there and expect a super high price ! as a seller you do ZERO work ; you just take all your stuff and dump it on the store in one take . then the store has to do ALL THE WORK ; sort and price everything , clean , seek customers , open the store every morning hoping for buyers , some items will sell quick , most items will be in the store for a very long time , some items will never move ; all the risk , energy , time , work is for the store to invest . result = you get a low amount logically .

There's no bigger scoundrel in the universe than a comic book store employee. When you buy the shit, it is all limited edition and probably the last one left in the universe, so naturally it has to be priced more than the price guide in less than perfect condition. Then when you go to sell, it isn't worth the box it came in.

I mean. That's just how it goes with any store that buys your stuff. You're working with margins in a very niche market space. If he wanted 1800, he'd probably have to piece it out on ebay. And that's a lot of money spent on shipping, etc. Things generally are not worth what you pay for them, even more rarely worth more than what you paid for them unless they become in demand + sufficient amount of time has passed.

They gotta pay rent and employees. Stock that doesn't move is literally money lost, as a lot of them have business loans that can be paid off if they kept minimal inventory. They're usually shitty because they're socially awkward AND stressed, so they come across in the worst way possible. Being in the financial industry for many years, it's the ones who hide behind a smile who are the true scoundrels. It's the unknowns you don't know about that gives you the biggest losses. This is still genuinely my favorite youtube channel and I need more content. That guy is weating an xmas shirt, I know you guys have the tape lol. I think you guys underestimate how much we all love even the mundane buisness side of what is done here. I could watch the boys talking about cleaning/restoring/completing toys in the back. Going over stuff in thr back that WAS big and now isn't like you all did with the Sleepy Hollow figures thay time. I would love to learn more about old fads and how much you bought into them versus now. Fascinating aspect of the collecting game. Im sure there's more parking lot deals or collections you could be throwing up, that come in. As a non collector nor buisness owner, a total civillian, everything about what you guys do fascinates me! I'm here for it all and for the long haul. Amazing group of guys that I would have a beer and play with toys with lol. Do you guys buy any RC stuff, or cool old 80s/90s RC stule figures? Those would be rad to see. Just doing my part to feed the algorithm and support the channel! Aloha from Hawaii guys!

Surely you have 3 decent collections you could make a 5-10 minute video out of along with regular store stuff we would all dig. Sorry, being greedy as me and everyone else just want more content. We love it. I say again, I'm not even a toy collector, although I would be if I wasn't so broke most likely lol I just love seeing all the toys I didn't know about, couldn't afford and the actual quality of them. So,... you were at $1,080 (cash)? (We'll call it $1,100) - The 1/4 Scale Boba Fett retail is $625. To which, by your own formula, you paid about $300 to whoever you bought it from? So,.. $300 + $500 in cash is only $800. And that's "fair"...? Let alone you're getting a remarkable wholesale discount price at 50% or more. You still keep back an additional $200...? 👌🏻 And I love how ol' boy in the background smiles with glee on the handshake.Knowing how bad my man got raked.

gotta love children who think like children... what would have paid for $2500 in SW stuff if you owned a shop with a bunch of employees whom you would have to pay to get them listed and shipped? my family owns a massive antique shop, and estate sale business, and my older brother is a nationally known collectable auctioneer so i know what we wouldve paid for 100's items with value of $2500. we wouldve you paid $800-$1100 and not anything more...probably on the lower end because there are a lot of items and some wont sell quickly, so we will sit on them for a while. it takes a lot of time to have someone research, photograph, list, and then ship that many items. it takes a shop that we have to pay rent, electricity, water, internet, and insurance...as well as numerous other costs and fees like toilet paper, paper, printer ink, cleaning supplies, etc etc etc do you actually think we can afford to pay $1250 or more for $2500 worth of items that takes a lot of work and still have our doors open??? mind you, we have our own homes with bills that need to be paid as well... so i ask you again, what wouldve you paid for $2500 worth of items???

I've definitely been where that guy was before trading something in at TF. I always appreciated that if I wasn't happy with what they offered me there wasn't any pressure to commit. No hard feelings on either side. A lot of times maybe the market was taking a dip or they just knew what they could sale vs already had 20 of in the backroom. Knowing about what I expected coming in always helped because they were able to explain why it wasn't worth that (at least to them). It helped me adjust expectations next time I came by for a trade.

Selling to a toy store is like a gun collector selling to a GUN STORE>. They have to make their own profit margin, so they only offer 50% of what it's worth. The only way for ANY collector to get close to market value for their collectibles is direct sale to another collector (aka via online sales)

But man I wanted it, and I was so jealous of any of my friends who had that bad-boy. The prices that people are asking for that on eBay are just insane, but I can definitely understand why some people would be willing to pay those prices to add the USS Flagg to their collections.

when selling something, what you get is determined by the buyer: generally speaking youll get the most from a private buyer, no transaction/shipping fees and youre selling to someone that adds their subjective value as well as market value. The problem is getting the word out that you want to sell and find buyers. on the other end is Auctions/Ebay, youll find plenty of buyers, but after shipping/transactions/taxes/fees youre looking at 20+% from whatever you are offered. finally pawn shops: they will buy it at a price where they can turn around and sell it for profit, they arent gonna buy a 1,000 dollar item for 900 dollars. Thats not paying lease, utilties and wages. youre looking at 50% of market value. You cant show them an Ebay listing for the same item and ask they give you that. If it was that easy, then what are you doing in a pawn shop, but as already explained, the Ebay price is not whats going into your bank account
