The Royal Tank Regiment has been training with their Estonian counterparts, testing their capabilities to work in sub-zero temperatures.
The British Army's Challenger 2 tank, the Estonian Land Forces' CV90s and hundreds of troops have been on Exercise Winter Camp in the snow-covered forest of Lasna, Estonia, on NATO's eastern border.

Putin is not that stupid. As sad as it is to see the situation in Ukraine was entirely expected. Any invasion of the 3 Baltic NATO states would lead to mutually assured destruction and world war 3 without a doubt. No one including Putin want this. He is flexing his tiny muscles to take WHAT HE CAN. which unfortunately for the world is Ukraine.

Really hard thing to do, everything doesn't fit everyone's need. For Estonia and the Nordic countries the CV90 works best as it was designed for that climate, but at the same time, it wasn't taken to the operations in Gao, Mali by Estonians as it isn't fast enough. Same time Estonia has unnamed tanks, the Type-x, that it isn't really keen on selling, so for the rest of the NATO to have that one good product, they would have to spend a lot of money. So standardizing small stuff like ammo, and equipment would be good, the ammo basically is already standardized, with only few exceptions in few countries.

As everybody is getting ready after Russia invaded Ukraine and the snow is now melting I would suggest removing all the trackpads from the vehicles, trackpads were only fitted in the 1970´s to protect German roads from the Chieftain tank tracks. You can see lots of pictures of Chieftains on exercise stuck sometimes up to the glacis plates as they literally used to dig themselves into the soft mud roads, was it the trackpads causing this? Either nobody in the Army had a camera in their Centurion days but I can´t remember seeing a bogged in Centurion, and they had no tracks! Easier to do it now than in the field later?

Well the Estonian nature really isn't fit for tanks, there are only few spots where the Brits can in reality take their tanks in Estonia, and there are even less spots in the summer. MBT's weigh a lot, compared to IFV and unmanned tanks. So Estonia is rather going for a combo of CV90's and Type-x'es, because they are cheaper to maintain, and to buy in. They are also easier to transport, and they are faster. Main battel tanks have many problems, and when one Anti-tank missile that costs the fraction of the price of the tank and crew, can take out an tank in few seconds, then why even bother. It's just smarter to stack up on AT weaponry.

I hope you are not suggesting that the Baltic countries and Poland would have been better off under Nazi Germany. Ukraine welcomed the Nazis as liberators and then formed the death Squads who killed hundreds of thousands of Jews throughout Ukraine, Estonia Latvia and Romania.

The Einsatzgruppen were run by the German SS.... in case you forgot. The Baltic states and Poland were occupied by the Soviet Union for 47 years and they did not enjoy it. Never again !

Contrary to most comments below, I am not that particularly happy about these war games in Estonia. 1) Seem pretty insufficent and hence useless if it comes to the real thing. 2) Pretty costly for local taxpayers and we are not yet that wealthy at all to pay for all this. 3) Pretty dangerous, because it makes our small Estonia a real target and our Estonian boys (and civilians) potential victims (instead of, say, to declare a complete military neutrality and put everybody to a proper constructive business). 4) Pretty limiting if you go to the woods in quite a many areas (which used to be possible quite recently). Now resembles the Soviet time is back with those closed military areas and frequent manuveres. Estonia is too small for war games. To be honest, there are more useful goals available for Estonia in the 21st century than deliberately teasing the Russian bear, which happens to be our neighbour... Best to everybody!

Potential aggression? from whom? Russia lost 28 million of her citizens fighting the Nazis. The Red Army liberated the Baltic republics and Poland at huge cost.

Stalin made a pact with Hitler, and then invaded Poland shortly after Hitler. Poles didn't think themselves liberated by the Red Army. I recognise the suffering and bravery of Russians during the war, but let's not pretend that they are in any danger now.

No wonder Putin is assembling his forces on his border with Ukraine, what would NATO say if Russia started moving forces into the Republic of Ireland at that governments request? Anyone remember the Cuban missile crisis? It’s ok for NATO to expand its influence east, but it’s not ok for Russia to push back?
