Dear Nicky and Harri, I applaud what you are achieving despite naysayers just interested in telling you how much they own. If I was stuck in survival situation, I'd rather it be with youngsters like you who get involved roll up their sleeves and put in some graft than some pen pusher. You keep on going. Even if you were to employ expensive builders, there's no guarantees, there's a lot of shoddy historical work on our house, but we're sorting it as we go. That patio was laid correctly with full bed of mortar, well done. Look forward to next video; excellent editting too.😊

Thanks for the comment Fred, really appreciate the support and positivity! You’re not wrong, you can see new builds all over the place that have been knocked up by 16 year old apprentices, just the same as really old buildings being built by builders with less regulations- we just follow all regulations and pick up trades along the way! We’re chuffed with how the patio turned out, perfect timing for some sunshine hopefully as well! See you in the next video! 🤞🏻👋🏻

Hi Nicky and Harri, I found your channel awhile back and have been binge watching through each video. I am very impressed with your achievements at such a young age. Storage is v important in the kitchen. However I think there is another better option. Looking at op 2, remove the (last) end piece of the peninsular to make it 2 sections instead of 3. This allows you to add the wall units back onto the empty wall as on Op 1. It also keeps the hob on the side wall (much safer) and has an extractor which appears to be missing in Op 1. This then gives you the extra storage plus a larger area for the dining table.
@NickyandHarri
@NickyandHarri Жыл бұрын
Hey Natalie, thanks for this idea, it took us a little second to understand what you meant but that really would be a great design! Luckily for us we won’t need an extractor fan wherever the hob is, as is It is induction and there wasn’t one in the kitchen before the renovation (so building regs state we don’t need one!)

Great idea to be fair, can imagine this could be really useful for some watchers! However, we do struggle for free time at the moment (around all of the labour/editing/ordering parts… etc), but I think we can defo do things like this when we reflect on the process in September! We’ll also be breaking down our renovation costs etc when we have more time to do so!! Great idea though ☺️🙌🏼

Super inspiring as always! I think Option 1 but with the hob retained on the back wall so the island remains a bar and prep space and doesn't get cluttered with utensils. I would also remove the unit above the island so it doesn't block the light source from the window and enables the room to look bigger. With it being a quartz worktop it will look premium curved or straight. Excited to see more!

£309,000. We need a night shot of your lovely garden. (We also need the full video of the completely finished bathroom) Also, why not Option 3? Take Option 2, but along the 'blank' wall C put a few floating cabinets to keep the feeling airy while adding more storage? You can either make them blue to match the other cabinetry or the same grey as the walls (unless you paint them white?) to help them hide?
@NickyandHarri

That patio looks sooo inviting! I think Option 1 on the kitchen layout. Although option 2 seems like a nice modern minimalistic layout, you’ll have more stuff on the worktops because you’ll have less storage, so it will look messy! I don’t think it matters whether the island thingy is rounded or square. Question - why the cute little cape Nicky when you were preparing the bedroom for the plasterer?! Fantastic video as usual. Xxxxxxx

Wow, the garden is looking amazing! 😍 Can see all your hard work is starting to pay off. Shame the plasterer didn't give you more notice, but at least you got it all sorted in the end. Kitchen i would go with the cheaper option if you are planning on selling, but if living there a while, you can never have too much storage! Definitely get some form of rounded edges. They dont have to be huge sweeping curves. Square protruding edges = Bruise magnet 🧲 I know you're on a tight budget so expect to pay several thousand plus for quartz tops, I personally find them noisy. A lookalike can do the same job for a small percentage. Also think about the hob placement and extraction to outside. You could easily do a whole episode on kitchen designs alone 👍

Hey JD, thanks for the really useful comment! 👋🏻 Whilst we do agree with what you’re saying (RE Re-sale and keeping costs low…) luckily as we’re working with DIY kitchens we’re getting some fab deals- so this isn’t too much of a problem for us (hence the quartz)! Rounded edges seem to be the popular opinion at the moment, think we’re swaying that way too! The kitchen could take up every episode to be honest- but we’re enjoying sprinkling it in, in small segments… we’re so excited about it! 🥳🙌🏼

From my own experience, never underestimate the amount of power sockets and storage you need in a kitchen as technology moves on swiftly (in terms of renovation works) and, suddenly, your kitchen can’t store or power all you need to live. Put in more than you think you’ll need - even if at first you don’t use it all. Patio was an amazing transformation!

Hi, found your channel last night, so played catch up then and as soon as I woke this morning. Enjoying your journey. I think option 1 with curved edge for the kitchen. Oh and if you didn't get an answer to the wall tiles - you can get tile spacers or a cheap alternative is a box of matches and use them inbetween the tiles to give the same space and they should hold each other up, you would have to start at the bottom for this to happen or tap a straight edge into the wall, so this will hold the tiles until dry. Est.agt. will put it on for £349,950, but you take an offer of £325,500 as I have faith in the finish you will produce.

Hi both. You're doing an amazing job with the renovation. Just one word of warning with regards the doors for the kitchen units. A style that is very popular at the moment features doors where the centre panel is inset. Unfortunately this allows any water running down the door to trap and seep into the MDF core of the door. The consequence is that the door swell and looks a mess really quickly. Obviously this is an issue in the vicinity of sinks. I've lost count of the number of doors that I've seen damaged this way. I would advise avoiding any design that wasn't fully waterproof on it's outer face. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next video

Hey guys, firstly option A and great colour choice too! You’ve done a fab job of the patio I must say its looks professional. However, you’ve raised the outside level up that much it’s pretty high to the damp course level (DPC). You should have a minimum clearance of 150 mm between the top surface of the patio, and the under edge of the DPC! The reason being is damp and can be a very expensive job to correct when it’s happened! I urge you guys to cut the slabs away from the building at least 100mm, dig down 150mm and fill back up with pea gravel. You’ll regret not doing it trust me. I have 36 years of being in the building trade as a multi trader, qualified in many aspects of it including gas and heating engineer, plumbing, drainage, plastering, kitchen fitting, carpentry etc. check on line see how it should be done and there’s a reason for it being a regulation. Daz
@NickyandHarri
@NickyandHarri Жыл бұрын
Hey Daz, thanks for your expertise and advice with writing this comment. We will make sure we double check that we are at least 150mm under the DPC and if not will start thinking about cutting back a moat around the house soon! 36 years is a long bloody time to ave been in the trades, so we certainly cant doubt your knowledge and will take it on board! 😀🙌

@@NickyandHarri thanks for message and kind words. Damp takes a while to set in and all depends on the construction of the house and the age. If the property was built in 1930 or earlier, it’s almost a certainty it will have no cavity between the inner and outer brickwork. Damp loves that and will strike through causing wallpaper to peel and paint to blister. This can also happen with properties with cavities. Not that you’ll be able to see unless you have the right equipment, but below DPC also has a cavity to! This is also could be full of debris and mortar like most I’ve come across even on new builds! So all the debris will bridge the outer leaf brickwork to the inner leak brick or block causing damp! This is why you need to keep the outside levels down at least 150mm below the DPC. I understand this is a fair bit to get your head round, but will save a lot of misery in 10 yrs time when you start witnessing decor damage and crumbling damp plaster. If you ever have any questions regarding anything please message because I’m a book of knowledge.

Thanks for this comment, really useful to get people’s opinions and ideas! Especially matching it up with straight edge skirting boards!! 😅

@@NickyandHarri Another benefit of straight edge skirting is its super easy to install as there is no need to match up the detailing with other profile of skirting. Its normally the cheapest also. Win-win all around.

Would highly recommend looking at Stokes Granite if you're looking for granite or quartz worktops, better prices than the kitchen companies 👍🏻

Thank you for the recommendation! But actually we’ve been so impressed with the price that DIY kitchens have given, plus the veining in the quartz we’ve chosen, we couldn’t find anything quite like it elsewhere! Will do a cost breakdown at some point! 😊

Nicky and Harri, next time for stripping wallpaper, the easiest way score it and just wet it, leave it for 5 min then strip it, advice coming from someone who stripped 3 bed semi detach, I try them steamers ect., waste of time and energy, good luck with rest of the house

Doing things on a budget usually means taking shortcuts which will come back to bite you in the future.. Okay if you're selling but if you're keeping then don't make shortcuts as doing it cheap once means you'll have to do it again
@NickyandHarri

The house will be sold at some point for sure, but defo don’t feel we’re taking shortcuts! 30k is more than enough of a budget to dot the I’s and cross the T’s , we’ll hopefully prove that somewhat! 🙌🏻🙂

If you are renovating with a view to selling then I would perhaps go for a less bold (and more neutral) colour for the kitchen units, dark blue would not be to everyone’s taste. If it’s for you guys to live in, get exactly what you want.
@NickyandHarri
@NickyandHarri Жыл бұрын
Great advice! It’s a hard one for us, because we defo will be living in it for a bit so we want things to be to our taste, but we also know we won’t be there for very long as we get itchy feet very quickly!!! Decisions decisions!!!

I can only comment on what I can see in certain shots - you might have gone back and done it properly....but the Plasterboard needs to have screws in maximum 30cm apart along each joist - otherwise it'll all crack up the seems
