Been living in Indonesia about 5 years and my comment about the country is that, the people are all very kind and friendly. In term of welcoming tourists or strangers, without hesitation they'll definitely welcome you without prejudice, so far what I feel. Islam is not like most of medias in the west been talking about, they're nowhere close to the the west description about Islam and Muslim. They're very open, exceptionally friendly and helping, not helpful as in I need or use them for my benefit or something, no. The culture is shockingly different, I'm from Monaco and there's no call to prayer there, I might don't even know if Muslim live in my country 😅. Mosques everywhere and many times always filled with people, unity or solely for resting a while. I can talk about a book long about Indonesia and the indonesian, but that's my opinion about them. For sure there are some negative reviews, every country has it, but the positive review is beyond and incomparable to the cons

I’m Australian and my wife is Indonesian and for the reasons you mentioned, you mentioned the life style and modernisation is not like the west,no it’s not but as far as I’m concerned it’s better. I would rather live in Indonesia than Australia any day of the week,I love the culture which is void of the western idea and that’s a bonus. Our Parents always teach us to be humble and not to live Hedonism Lifestyle, eventhough we have the money. Most of our Grandparents were born before Indonesian Independence Day, and they couldn’t have education because of Netherland Colonization’s Apartheid Policy. Our Grandparents have worked so hard to send all of their Childrens to study in University. I’m grateful that My Mom & Dad, and all of their Siblings, They were Graduated from University, eventhough My Grandparents didn’t have University degree. Sebenernya yg bikin Indonesia damai itu bukan islam. Tapi Pancasila. Indonesia bukan cuma islam aja, tp ada 6 agama yg diakui pemerintah. Di negara lain, gak ada itu pancasila sila kedua "Kemanusiaan yg adil & beradab" Gak ada juga pancasila sila ketiga "persatuan" atau unity. Apalagi musyawarah/mufakat & keadilan sosial. Kalo enggak sama sekali, fix lu orang buangan. Nah kl di Indonesia, kita gak bisa kayak gitu. Terlepas apapun agama kita, di kota mana kita dibesarkan. A lot of us are. I personally have no problem with my father telling me to wear hijab . I wore it when I was 11 and then I wore jilbab 9 years ago and I want to wear the niqab . No one told me to do that . I wanted to be a better muslim . A lot of girls are like that in majority muslim countries. Nothing wrong with your father telling you to be modest and pious . Sheikh Yusuf Estes once visited Indonesia and during his stay, in one of his public lecture he kept mentioning about how he couldn't stop drinking coffee to the point he had less water intake due to his frequent coffee consumption. I don't remember the details, but I still have the impression that he didn't know what to do when he gets back to the U-S and there won't be Indonesian coffee there. I my self not a coffee lover or enthusiast, but I know for the fact different place/region(/province in Indonesia would give different taste of coffee which each of them can compete with each other in taste.

as an Indonesian myself, Islam is pretty much internalised altogether with local cultures in many areas in Indonesia. We know that we could have and embrace both identities as a muslim and as an Indonesian. I think that is how it should go in every different part of the world. Islam is inevitably one, but muslims culturally diverse from one area to another. and Islam is never meant to wipe-off one's cultural identity or ethnicity.

@@Mkarsun in Islam, everything the wife earns and owns are hers and hers alone. She does not have to spend it for the family, even her children. The husband is the sole provider to the family, even if the wife is richer than him. The husband shall provide food, clothes, and home to the family, and provide a separate provisions for the wife's personal needs. The responsibility for the children is on the husband, even when divorced. Until they reach adulthood. The wife must obey the husband as the leader of the family. She may donate her income to the family, but not as provision but as donation. Although all the above are mentioned in the Quran, most Muslim men do not realise this. Western culture have "shared income" for married couple or partnership, which is not according to Islam.

As an Indonesia, it has more to do with the society than with the religion. Only in Indonesia Muslim Woman wield so much power in the family system, other societies where Islam is the pillar, female are treated as 2nd Class citizen, in Indonesia it's pretty much equal, even sometimes Women are put on a pedestal and revered instead of men, and the men are not pre-occupied with proving their masculinity by "overpowering" women. It's more of an Asian thing rather than Islamic thing (btw my mom is a Muslim since she remarried but I am not, and she is considerably less liberated than before she remarry in my opinion).

when people judge the Arab nation, they forget to separate which are the rules of Arab culture and which are the rules of Islam, so they often make mistakes in judging Islam. so if you want to judge muslims, maybe you should go to Indonesia because our culture comes from the Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms while many Islamic rules are contrary to that culture, maybe in some provinces there are still cultural/customary rules that overlap with Islamic religious rules, such as Javanese culture which likes to sanctify an object such as a keris, but this culture is actually polytheistic/musyrik and contradicts Islamic rules, there are also some areas that eliminate ancient customary rules that contradict religion, such as traditional house carving motifs, in West Sumatra traditional houses do not use carvings that resemble humans or animals because they are prohibited by Islam, so the customs adjust by only using plant motif carvings. that's where the mistake of the western nation is, they are easily fooled by the media because they easily judge without first finding out the truth, always considering Islam a radical religion even though there is not a single verse in the Koran that is radical, all of which are full of the language of love from Allah
