@@SM-ot5rv They really can’t. There are only a handful I can think of that are anywhere close and most of those can only do a posh accent. As a working class Brit, Chris Pratt’s impression of a Towie accent is the best regional working class accent I’ve heard.
@anyaw3402 жыл бұрын
@@fluffyjojo4570 It's because most Americans aren't exposed to British accents on a very regular basis. British people are highly exposed to American accents, so it's easy for British people to imitate us. Chris Pratt can do that accent so well because he's watched so many episodes of that show, as he mentioned. However, if you ask any other American to do a British accent, most will say something stereotypical, like "Pip, pip, cheerio!", or "bo'oh o wa'ah" ("bottle of water", lol). If you don't have familiarity with an accent, you can't imitate it well and go straight to stereotypes.
@anyaw3402 жыл бұрын
What makes Chris Pratt "as American as it gets"? He's no more or less American than literally any other American. Where do people get this stuff? lol
@user-ed7et3pb4o Жыл бұрын
@@anyaw340 it’s not just that British people are exposed to American accents. It’s that British people are exposed to tons of accents, constantly, non stop, because Britain is full of them. Our tiny island literally has 60 distinct dialects of native English crammed in with each other. Any Brit can immediately figure out someone’s hometown, social class and often ethnicity just by how they speak. This means Brits get very good at picking up on nuances between accents and figuring out how to imitate them. Americans don’t have that same exposure at all.

Every Irish person's heart breaks just a little bit when Graham says "we" and identifies as British... even though, in all fairness, he's been living in Britain for most of his life, is a pillar of the BBC, is definitely a naturalised citizen and it's perfectly legitimate to do so.
@thecolossus42444 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me why? I dont get the whole situation. Arent Irish people British?
@s.leochapman4174 жыл бұрын
@@thecolossus4244 Irish people are not British. Great Britain is an island composed of England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom includes these nations within Britain, as well as a small part of the island of Ireland, referred to as Northern Ireland. The main part of the island of Ireland is an independent, sovereign nation called the Republic of Ireland. Traditional Irish animosity towards Britain stems from the latter's colonial rule over Ireland for several centuries, intensifying as of the 17th century onwards in particular. As Ireland suffered a great deal under British rule and domination (most notably during The Great Irish Famine in the 19th century), a number of historic rebellion efforts took place over the centuries, led by revolutionaries, in a bid to free Ireland from British rule. Eventually, in the early 20th century, Ireland secured a domestically controversial treaty from Britain, allowing it to become a free state (though the country is only a republic since 1949). The treaty in question actually led to a civil war within Ireland as it allowed Britain to retain Northern Ireland, where colonial efforts over the years had been more intensive, resulting in a more significant population of culturally British inhabitants, who tended to control much of the land and virtually all sociopolitical power within Ireland under British rule. The legacy of this today is the division (or 'partition') of Ireland into two separate countries. Irish people largely get along very well with British people today, though there is a great deal of politically motivated resentment towards Britain due to the history of British interference in Ireland, having quashed significant elements of Irish culture (such as its language and customs) and subjected the native population to subservience. Nowadays, many Irish people are also frustrated by the fact that Britain's colonial endeavours in the country are largely ignored in the teaching of British history, with a pervasive perception in Ireland that most Britons possess little knowledge of the two countries' shared history, despite it having shaped Ireland as it is today.
@thecolossus42444 жыл бұрын
@@s.leochapman417 Oh wow. In that case I think Graham shouldn't have said that he was British. Unless he's from Northern Ireland then I can see it.
@s.leochapman4174 жыл бұрын
@@thecolossus4244 Actually, he's from the south of the Republic of Ireland, a place called Cork. Personally, as an Irishman, I see no issue with him identifying as British nowadays (even if, instinctively, it irks me). He's been there for a very long time and has built his whole career there. Plus, we're all friends nowadays after all... provided that the current british executive doesn't revive tensions in Northern Ireland by provoking a disorderly Brexit. That could be very damaging for British-Irish relations! Fingers crossed! 🤞
@dennetlane28704 жыл бұрын
@@thecolossus4244 Of course he should identify himself as British if he wants, he's lived here for decades 🤷🏻♀️ we're happy to claim him :) but I've also heard him tell guests on here who didn't realise that he's Irish. Maybe he uses both.

I'd like to see them as a recurring "everyman" roles. Superheroes tumble down the street battling all the way. Emily and John are standing in a shop doorway. "Now there's something you don't see every day." "Oh I don't know. The other day I saw a pidgeon fighting with a squirrel." "Did you remember to buy lemmons?"

Got this notification yesterday on Facebook, watched it. Got it today on KZbin, watched again, and laughed like it was the first time.

Brilliant clips, loved how well Ryan Gosling and Greg Davies got on during that episode, although I think there's very few people who wouldn't get on with Greg, he's such a sweetie. Along the same lines, one of my favourite episodes was the one with June Brown and lady gaga, loved the chemistry between them and they were so different, would never have thought they'd get on that well in a million years, so sweet. Confused who is supposed to be American in the last clip though, there were 3 Brits and an Australian??
