The comparison of “chemicals“ was heavily biased. Besides how many preservatives does America approve? 20? 30? 50? 60? Well Japan authorises 1500!

For those of you who don’t know 473 mL is 1 pint and 946 ml is 2 pints or 1 quart. As in a quarter of a gallon 21 Fluid ounces is 1 pint 5 fluid ounces which is not even half a pint that would be 8 which it weird. One fluid ounce was created as the volume it would take water to weigh an ounce (1/16 pound)

as far as the drinks though, in Europe they rarely put very much ice in the drinks while in the US they fill your cup with ice then add the drink. I think they should have gotten the actual liquid content and conpaired those.

I haven't been abroad much but when I have, it does make me realize how much bigger our portion sizes are here in the States and explains why we have a stereotype of everyone being obese. It also doesn't help that frying is a big thing and our regional foods like gumbo and jambalaya in Louisiana or Tex-Mex here in Texas tend to be pretty high-calorie.

am pleasant to see/meet British people and hear British accent in ROK. ROK people call English 英語[英=English/England 語=language], however, AmE has conqueted ROK, because of the history of US military administration (1945~1948?) after the fall of bestial Imperial Japan. | i want to hear RP accent in ROK, for its pronunciation is very|relatively clear when ROK people hear it. For anyone who doesn’t know. Fast food places in the US have to list ALL of their ingredients by their actual scientific names. So a lot of those "unnecessary" "weird" things are just the scientific names of "regular" ingredients. Also the drinks in the US are abt 75% ice 25% actual drink.

I was thinking about this. I'm curious about the laws in other countries when it comes to displaying food ingredients. I have no doubt that the US has more ingredients, and potentially more dangerous ones. However, I wonder if it's similar to the Florida-man phenomenon; in which Florida seems much crazier than other states because its laws require its crimes to be more "visible" compared to the rest of the US.

As much as I hate McDonalds, in Australia our menu is quite diverse and have quite a lot of healthier options. They have salad options, a McCafe which also sells coffee shop style snacks as well and barista coffee. Depending on the place, the coffee isn't too bad. Our Burger King equivalent, Hungry Jacks, also has some good burger options and salad.

The US ingredients list rules are more strict in so that's why we have ingredients listed sometimes twice such as salt etc.
@cgi2002
@cgi2002 Жыл бұрын
To be honest, they really aren't more strict. In the UK if you ask for a list of ingredients they must state every single one of them, including individual food colourings, preservatives, etc (they can't just say "mixed herbs" for example). The reason the list is shorter is because the UK (and EU) bans about 40% of the preservatives and colourings the US uses in foods as they are known health hazards. Hell US chicken (other meats are highly restricted) for example is banned in the UK & EU because the animals themselves don't meet the safety requirements for import (the use of most steroids in farming is banned), and if they were allowed in the UK, the steroids would need to be listed on the menu too (in the US they aren't).

It depends on several factors, including location, the location management team, the rest of the crew, the quality of the neighborhood, and traffic, in the US. Some stores are really clean and the service is great, yet there are other locations that are filthy and the service sucks. Most locations are somewhere in the middle zone.

As a chemist I encourage you to look up the common additives to understand their purpose and hazards. Most the hate is from people who don’t know what the components are but just because you don’t know doesn’t mean it’s bad. I could list the chemical composition of an animal or plant in words you wouldn’t understand. Of course some additives are bad for you as are some natural products, so you should educate yourself.

@@nixonmalasi8982 clearly there’s junk food out there, but a food isn’t junk just because you can’t pronounce an ingredient. That’s just faulty logic. Cholesterol is a naturally occurring chemical that can be bad for you if you eat too much, for example.Sodium lauryl sulfate is just soap, which most would agree is positive for human health. Look on a cereal label for the chemical name of the B vitamins. Lots of examples where some education before judgment is appropriate

Maccas in Australia has so many options and are much healthier than the US. We even have a full café in our McDonald’s. That so called exclusively US McDonald’s stuff looks a lot less exclusive compared to what is in Australia so I am calling BS on that…

Exclusive in the video they’re watching doesn’t mean Exclusive in their country It just means “What the U.K. Doesn’t have that’s in the U.S. ” and vice versa

Me I don't do McDonald's, hell no and no way. And this is just my opinion. And for other people it's to each their own. Me I prefer healthy foods. Home grown. Home raised. As in: Meats, Milk, Cheese, Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts, Grains, Breads, and so on and so forth. But then again I prefer to raise, grow, and make my own. And I like a lot of Meat, Milk, and etc, also I don't do pork of any kind except for bacon and that's very very very rare. I prefer other types of bacon, like turkey. My family and I we just prefer doing our own thing, especially because most of us are allergic to a lot of the foods. There's one of us allergic to eggs, caffeine, chocolate, any types of corn, and that includes things like corn chips, corn meal, corn syrup and etc, also MSG. Then another is allergic to any type of melon, it doesn't matter which one they can't eat it. They are also allergic to most of the vaccines and shots that are out there. Then another one is allergic to Store bought Cows Milk, and Soy Milk, so we kind of have to raise, grow, and make our own things. So my sister that is allergic to the soy milk and store bought milk, can have goat's milk, and also home raised cow's milk, but not the processed or milk.

The size issue is because everything got screwed up after Super Size got dropped. What they did was drop the smallest drink and rename everything (so a large is now essentially an extra large), but for the fries they dropped the largest size, so everything is actually smaller. Really weird, but that’s what happened. So it’s only been like this for about 15 years.

Portion size, calories and most importantly so many chemicals. I watched that original video years ago. It literally felt like the ingredients in the fries are more in number than a shampoo's ingredients. Forget about coke size, even a small fries also contain lots lots lots of chemicals which I personally feel is worse than sugar. This is sad!

Vegetarian and Vegan fast food isn't big in the US because of corporate greed. The prices are deliberately kept high, so its never economically viable. Even when the ingredients are significantly cheaper than meat, its more (sometimes a LOT more) expensive. Not just fast food, but supermarket food too. For example, recently Perdue, the biggest chicken manufacturer, introduced a half chicken half vegetable thing shaped into a tater tot shape and marketed as a healthier alternative to nuggets. The price of ingredients, because its half vegetables, should be WAY cheaper than an equal amount of chicken nuggets. But instead, it's almost double the price for the same weight. This is all intentional. The meat producers have huge power and lean on the rest of the food industry to demolish any chance of meatless or even meat-light foods being competitive.

The US is the only first world nation where food that's healthy, and not necessarily vegan or organic, is more expensive than junk food.

It is important to point out that American law requires all ingredients to be listed by their scientific names. Moreover, if there is even a pinch of two different types of salt or three different sugars, all must be listed. Just listing salt or sugar is illegal. If a restaurant fails to list any ingredient, that restaurant will be massively fined and/or shutdown.

That's why it was a good idea in theory, but not in practice. Most Americans don't have nearly enough of a proper science education to understand the words said in their scientific terms.

The US has less "extra" than these videos make you think. There are much more stringent food labeling regulations in the US. They have to list sub-ingredients not mandated elsewhere, as well as things in smaller quantities. Plus the US enriches certain things with vitamins and minerals that doesn't happen everywhere else. Milk, flour, and lots of other stuff are enriched by default, but those enrichment ingredients need to all be listed anyway. Also the US mandates using chemical names for things informal names are used for elsewhere (stuff like thickeners, coloring agents, etc.)
@jwb52z9
@jwb52z9 2 жыл бұрын
"Enrichment" of food isn't something necessary anywhere else in the first world to begin with now. The US ingredients that are allowed in some food is banned everywhere else like High Fructose Corn Syrup, for example. The US mandates it the way it does putting everything in scientific terms, literally, so almost no one knows what it means and it's still legal.

For those of you who don’t know 473 mL is 1 pint and 946 ml is 2 pints or 1 quart. As in a quarter of a gallon 21 Fluid ounces is 1 pint 5 fluid ounces which is not even half a pint that would be 8 which it weird. One fluid ounce was created as the volume it would take water to weigh an ounce (1/16 pound)

did they do KFC yet? KFC America is terrible. I don't even know how they stay operational in the U.S.. In Iceland, at least, we have the Zinger tower burger (chicken burger with hashbrowns and spicy salsa) and its AMAZING. I tried asking for it the first time I went to a KFC in the U.S.(before I knew about regional menu´s) and they were like I don't know what that is, I asked for a chicken burger thing and I got chicken on a biscuit with honey.... it was bad. As a result, after 12 years in the U.S. I´ve been to KFC 2-3 times total.
