Transforming a large basement into an UltraHD home cinema room with 2.35:1 screen, 4K projector 10 seats and fibre optic star ceiling.
High spec cinema, retro styling, combined with very contemporary touches. View the total transformation in just over 5 minutes. a big thanks to Fenella for her imaginative interior design work on this project / fenellajanedesign and of course our own web site is www.ukhomecinem...
The finished cinema area is about 6.7 metres from front to back and slightly over 5 metres wide at the widest point . The height of the original space was 2.32 Metres. This project was spread out over several months, speed wasn't the priority and the seats were on a long delivery time.
The projector is a VPL-VW550. We needed an ultra HD projector with motorised zoom , focus and lens shift plus lens memories. This was necessary for all of the different aspect ratios to work at constant image height on the 2.35:1 screen. Absolutely everything is controlled on a single remote (and also from the client's iphone)
these work via the control processor, This includes control of all of the lighting.

True. Most guidelines (CEDIA CEB 23, THX, SMPTE, Dolby etc) suggest that there shouldn't be any aisles down the center line of the screen, but maybe the client preferred that, or perhaps the main seating is the second row and the stairs ensured an unobstructed view.

@X2 JoelMK 33 that doesn't make any sense , the screen is a solid piece of fabric called blackout cloth that has multiple layers of rubber covered with polyester and cotton, no light is getting through that projector screen because it was designed to block light, the lack of paint behind the projector screen is still baffling because there is no reason they shouldn't have painted the whole wall

Octavarium89: First, QLED TV is brighter and better for a home cinema. OLED is good for dark and wide viewing but QLED is more striking. Try DTS:X with a minimum 7.1 speakers but with ceiling spkrs, 11.2 is better. I like DTS MA 7.1, it fabulous for the money. Unfortunately, most 4K blu ray movies are Dolby/DTS 5.1, so sad for this. Well, damn. The visual effect of that star ceiling looks stunning in this video, and I can't imagine how it would be to just sit in there. It looks like it could be a sun/moon roof of some deep space vessel. Lol, I think it might have me wanting to have a couple of Star Trek like Captain chairs in the center, with a low ship engine humming noise playing over that sound system, which I have no doubt has killer acoustics from the rock wool insulation. Nice work.

Thanks for your comment. We are a tiny company , but we are doing home cinema projects constantly. Most of our projects are a lot smaller and lower value than this one. Even if someone just wants a home cinema projector supplied and installed, we are happy to do that. The videos take a lot of work and we would have trouble finding the time to make more of them. We do have a time-lapse recorded but not yet edited, of a much smaller project , just fitting a projector based home cinema system into a fairly modest lounge, chasing the cables into walls etc , but without changing the look of the room. We may manage to publish that at some point.

Sometimes it's not about having the best placement, sometimes its about fulfilling the wishes of the person commissioning the job done and maybe that's what they want and maybe what they want is to sit that far away or possibly they wanted it to feel open and large. It's not what I would want either but you have to put into that into consideration. The thing that drives me nuts is the due fact that side surround speakers are not in the same orientation so the left surround is going to sound far lower than the right surround.

@iforgotwhatiwasdoin
@iforgotwhatiwasdoin 3 жыл бұрын
Right? The work and detail with the construction process was immaculate, but when it comes down to the earth-shaking moment intensifying audio experience, a 7.1.2 set up is what you're rocking? That's a large space, and if you're dropping those K's, invest in more audio gear and HEAVEN FORBID get more subs. 1 powered sub isn't enough to fill that space. Now I did see 2 subs, one was ported from the front seen when they were assembling the screen, and the sub I see in the end result is sealed. Not sure if they were both implemented, but still. Whatev, bet it still sounds pristine.

Adding a dvd shelf, not closing the space off, and not planning ahead for subwoofer placement are keeping this from looking like a much more expensive theater space. Lots of high quality work and materials but the multicolor DVD array next to the screen is distracting and tacky. Obviously the speakers aren't integrated into the walls on this setup, but the subwoofer especially stands out as a large front-and-center box. For lighting, sound dampening, and sound quality reasons there would be massive benefits to closing off that half-wall. Still an impressive setup.

And somewhere in there hidden under all of that beautiful finish work is an old drafty fireplace that was never torn out.

Very cool. I do stuff like that here in Calgary, recently built a house with an attached bar, 9.2 with a jumbotron with screens in it.

For what was spent I'd of blown out that ceiling if nothing is above it. We have 12' ceilings and I'd think twice especially with a drop down Trey ceiling. The end result looks good. I'd probably go for a laser projector.
