Great video, thank you. I emailed Sunster and asked them about an in line fuel filter. Sunster replied saying that it would be a good idea to fit one.

I have the Hcalory version of this heater. This afternoon I totally disassembled mine to replace fuel lines and add a filter. Everything comes right out of the top. No need at all for drilling out rivets. I have had 6 diesel heaters of various designs and like this one best of all of the ones that I have had. Good video, thanks for sharing.

Bought one the other day on your recommendation mainly for my garage/workshop and possibly camping. Tried it today for the first time. I have a catflap so put it outside and ran the hose through the catflap just to try it out. No bleeding or setting it up I just filled it with diesel and pressed ON on the remote just to see what would happen. It sorted itself out and started up when the burner got going. It's great and works well even on the lowest (1 bar) setting) Being all in one in a tidy case makes it truly portable just fit /alterthe exhaust and add the hose, if needed, to suit and it is very quiet especially inside the house so it could even be used in an emergency (with battery) Comes with a mains 240-12v converter and also a battery lead with eyelets. I wouldn't leave it outside with no cover so needs a box or something if intending to use it on your house or any other situation where it might get wet. Yes there is still a tick of the pump but it is very quiet compared with the more basic ones. Just got to work out the instructions properly now lol

Hello from Calgary, Alberta. I just bought the Hcalory SS2 box heater. Has a cool Auto on & off feature. No need to remove all those rivets. Just unbolt and remove the heater to access the fuel tank and pump. I'm getting 150+c exhaust heat. Too much air intake restriction will reduce performance.

Good review, thank you. I have a 'briefcase' one & have used it to heat a 23sq/ft area (four rooms) for a year or so now ..... I love it. The design of yours is an improvement as the exhaust outlet has a 90 degree bend already in it whereas mine requires the flexible exhaust to be bent at 90 & it projects out from under the heater which means that you have to build a stand to raise the heater on. All in all much the same but would prefer yours due to the thought put into the design. Diesel heaters are great if used correctly & understand how to get the best out of convected heat as opposed to radiated heat. Thanks again.

I got this one too, about two weeks ago, so watching your video, which is excellent, interested me. I'm pleased with mine as well. The pump is practically silent. The noise, in mine, comes from the fans motor, I think. A sort of whirring sound, that I didnt expect, along with the whooshing sound of the air flowing, that I did expect. You havnt mentioned this whirr, so I assume then that this is normal. Also, the fuel level gauge I find not very clear to read, it is just bearly enough to see. You havnt said this yourself, so i assume this is normal too. Im happy with mine overall, the price of mine was 20pounds cheaper than yours, at 159pounds, as I bought mine from Sunster itself on their Ebay shop, I assume yours came from Amazon. Your video is excellent, very well done indeed, I'm subscribed! Best wishes from Alan, in Norfolk.
@TheWrinklyNomadsАй бұрын
Yes, the whooshing air sound is quite normal. Not much you can do about that. I didn’t mention it, but apparently you can monitor the fuel in the app. Set to a 5lt tank and set. As it has a very accurate burn rate it calculates the fuel usage! Thanks for watching 👍🏼

First time visiting your channel and I thoroughly enjoyed the content, style and editing. All that I needed and would have asked myself when looking at this smart little heater. I run a small fan heater designed for greenhouses in my workshop, I wonder how the running costs would compare? Great work fella, will be back for more.
@johntheoldmod2 ай бұрын
That looks a great heater, my only thought about improving it would be to replace the rivets with nutserts for ease of access in future . Edit: They are selling the same one on Ebay at £160 and one that looks as though it might have same spec but in a different case that is screwed together. I have in a box in my garage what was at the time the first of the Eberspacher Hydronic all in one units, that I paid £750 for in 1996 and fitted to my car, I removed it when I sold the car in 2013 and I have been thinking about how best to make use of it, but it's not an air heater and needs plumbing into a water system, I thought about a small car heater with an integrated fan but it would also need some kind of expansion tank and a lot of cobbling together, at the end of the day one of these ready to go heaters is looking like the better option and the Eberspachers seem to make good money on Ebay.
@TheWrinklyNomads2 ай бұрын
Hi John Yes, I agree, riv nuts would be the better option. Maybe the next time I strip it down I'll change to them. Be interested if you've got that eBay link.... Yes, back in the day, when Eberspacher had the monopoly, they charged insane money for their units.

I just bought a diesel heater but not this one. Riveted cover was a deal breaker for me because you will need access for maintenance (e.g., the fan bearings will likely fail in the near future and you may need to check for fuel leaks) and having to drill out the rivets to get inside is ridiculous. Total fail IMO.. I bought one made by LF Bros. A diesel heater is a great idea though for a small un-heated workshop though.

@@kevinhughes9801 Just bought one and I would say no. I wouldn't leave it where it might get wet. The control box lives in a flimsy plastic clear cover on the lid. I can see that filling up with water although you could extend it as it's a simple 3 cable wire. The remote also has a clear plastic stowage on top but,obviously, that can be removed. If temporarily using it outdoors eg camping some sort of waterproof cover could be made up but you would need to ensure that air could get to the intake on one end and the outlet for the hot air on the other. For static home use maybe a wall box or something like a pet kennel?? Or just make something up For a garage/workshop the unit could be indoors but the exhaust would need to be outside. For safety I personally would have it all outside but maybe under a canopy of some sort?? I have a trailer tent and the support for the bed folds out leaving a clear storage area underneath but outside. However I would still be nervous of leaving it running underneath the bed unit if sleeping. It all depends on your use/situation. I might consider a metal box on the towing A frame at the front lol
@embers-cotswold-walksАй бұрын
If running outside then you are pulling cold air through the heat exchanger which is probably not too efficient. I think (I use one) the best setup is to run it inside with both the motor exhaust & intake being drawn from outside (internal intake causes negative internal pressure .... pulling in draughts) & have the internal/warmer air recycled through the heat exchanger.

A very interesting and helpful review. I was just wondering how much length one could add to the exhaust pipe. I just took delivery of the same unit, hoping to use it in my garden pub. How much length do you think you could safely add to the exhaust pipe? If it were routed a bit longer inside the room, it would radiate heat and cool the pipe a bit before it exited through the wall. Anyone got any thoughts on that? The exhaust obviously has mass, so the pipe will have a length beyond which the fan will no longer blow it out. Seems like a longer pipe woul act like a radiator of sorts. Ok

As soon as I see the remote and LCD screen, I see cheap Chinese crap, with a short life span.

Been running the same controller for 4 years now. No problems at all. Thanks for watching 👍

I disagree (partly) with this statement - I've had my own 'Chinesium' Diesel Heater for 4 years and it works perfectly. At the time of purchase an 'original' Diesel Heater from Webasto would have cost over £1500 with a 12 month guaranteed. My Diesel Heater cost £115, add to this a better Air Filter, Fuel Filter and Fuel Lines (£20) and the total cost was £135. Admittedly, the guarantee is worthless but I could still buy 11x 'Chinesium' Diesel heaters for the same price as the Webasto one. I stated that I 'partially' disagreed with your statement simply because we've all bought some piece of Chinesium garbage in the past - for me, a Diesel heater wasn't one of them... your mileage may vary.

Throw everthing out of your house made in China...... You will have nothing left. I even turned the Wife up side down to check but she was made in St Helens.😄

It’s too dear. You can buy similar for less than half the price.
