@CZ350tuner5 жыл бұрын
Even before the Faust Patronne there was the Pg.46 rifle & Kampfpistolen (modified flare gun) launched and Pg.51 cut down PzB.39 AT rifle launched HEAT grenades. Both could penetrate up to 89mm. of vertical homogenous armour and nearly double the thickness of ordinary steel plate. The Kampfpistolen launched Pg.46 grenade had a range of 50 metres. The Kar.98 launched Pg.46 grenade had a range of 100 metres. The cut down PzB.39 launched Pg.51 had a range of 300 metres. In desperate moments the finned Pg.46 grenade could be also thrown against a tank by hand. Despite having a shorter range than the PzB.39 AT rifle launcher, the Faust Patronne could penetrate up to 148mm. of vertical homogenous armour plate. The Panzerfaust could penetrate up to 221mm. of vertical homogenous armour plate and up to 192mm. set at 60 degrees of slope. It was more than capable of penetrating any Allied or Soviet tank available at the time.
@thegreatdominion9495 жыл бұрын
@Parker Hetzel It is debatable if the Bazooka was truly a reliable tank destroyer as this test demonstrates. Many who used it in combat said that it wasn't capable of penetrating the forward armour of any mid to late war German tank and often failed to penetrate thinner side armour, despite its rated ability to go through at least 5 inches of hardened steel.
@thegreatdominion9495 жыл бұрын
@ur mom Let's face it. The shaped charge of the original Bazooka AT round was just too small to do the job against the armour of contemporary German tanks.

The plates increace in effective thickness when angled... And when a plate is angled it also has a ballistic effct to the tank shell that further reduces the penetration of the round... The bazooka also has a smaller hole with a small explosion because its a High Explosive Anti Tank grenade and relies on the explosive inside to force metal through a small surface penetrating the compartment unlike the tank round that has a big and even hole when it penetrates the tank and either explodes or not if it has explosive filler. If it was a tank round, there would be absolute chaos inside the tank from the shrapnel

I really dont like all the pyrotechnics used, you cant have these things in Britain so obviously these aren't shooting actual munitions but they could at least do more than put a bomb under the dumpster and plasma cut a hole in the plate. That bazooka just shot a paint round and even if it was a real rocket the hole would have been much cleaner and not have all those secondary impacts around it

Depends on the ammunition used and if it attacked the Panther from the side as Allied AT ambush doctrine favoured a position covering a road or zone from the side. The 57mm. L.52 6 Pounder AT gun performance: APCBC/T = Up to 118mm. @ 0 degrees @ 100 metres. APDS = Up to 167mm. @ 0 degrees @ 100 metres. The Panther G's hull armour layout is: Upper front= 80mm. @ 60 degrees. Lower front = 60mm. @ 45 degrees. Upper sides = 50mm. @ 40 degrees. Lower sides = 40mm. @ 0 degrees. Rear = 40mm. @ 40 degrees. Most likely the Panther was shot in the side as the odds of a first hit penetration on the front would not have been good at all even at point blank range. There is a KO'd Panther G at a café near a village in Belgium, which I climbed all over as a kid in 1975 whilst on holiday. It was shot in the right side by a 6 Pounder gun hidden in a wood on a slope at a range of 500 metres. There is a perfect 57mm. hole on the right upper hull next to the hull gunner's position. The tank was completely burnt out. The crew escaped and were taken prisoner.

MrLoobu I quickly searched up some videos of the 6 pounder firing and it would appear that is how it fires. Perhaps they did this out side of the UK because that would appear to be a real 6 pounder firing. it's important to note the lack of a slide because the 6 pounder doesn't slide when firing like what most people think of a field gun other videos showing a 6 pounder firing kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3Ocq2pnftt6aas.
