This man has a PhD in War Studies from King's College London. His thesis was about the Rwandan genocide. So if there was ever any doubt, he's pretty well-qualified to talk about this stuff.

The UN is not this authority that can do no wrong. I agree the speech is absolutely spot on. I just don’t know how anyone looks at the UN’s track record and think its all flowers, peace and charity. It isn’t, and I would be more sceptical. Because the UN ignored the Rwandan genocide despite knowing about and being told by the people it was going to happen. He's even more right if you look at it from the other perspective, the predecessor of my home land - Czechoslovakia, was also born out of the soldering remains of a massive empire, however, we were given rightful borders, our brethren staying inside and the others outside, and yet due to the slightest differences between the Czech and Slovak people we've decided to split. If two peaceful populations were put together by own choice properly, and yet we've divorced later, what could make Russia think that Ukraine being forced under it's wing by force will want to have anything to do with them, and will accept such a connection.

Kenya and almost every African country was birthed by the ending of empire. Our borders were not of our own drawing. They were drawn in the distant colonial metropoles of London, Paris and Lisbon, with no regard for the ancient nations that they cleaved apart. . Today, across the border of every single African country, live our countrymen with whom we share deep historical, cultural and linguistic bonds. . At independence, had we chosen to pursue states on the basis of ethnic, racial or religious homogeneity, we would still be waging bloody wars these many decades later. . Instead, we agreed that we would settle for the borders that we inherited, but we would still pursue continental political, economic and legal integration. Rather than form nations that looked ever backward into history with a DANGEROUS NOSTALGIA, we chose to look forward to a greatness none of our many nations and peoples had ever known. . We chose to follow the rules of the Organisation of African Unity and the United Nations charter, not because our borders satisfied us, but because we wanted something greater, forged in peace. . We believe that all states formed from empires that have collapsed or retreated have many peoples in them yearning for integration with peoples in neighboring states. This is normal and understandable. After all, who does not want to be joined to their brethren and to make common purpose with them? . However, Kenya rejects such a yearning from being pursued by force. We must complete our recovery from the embers of dead empires in a way that does not plunge us back into new forms of domination and oppression. . We rejected irredentism and expansionism on any basis, including racial, ethnic, religious or cultural factors. We reject it again today.

Demographics wise Africa's future can be as bright as it wants to be. It's made so many strides in the past 60-70 years. But there is still much to be done.

Not a chance, it will be owned and dominated by China mainly but also India. The West is on its last legs, dominated by self hatred, wholeness, corruption and greed. Current generation is despicable in its narcissism and uselessness.

Africa is screwed because of petty tribalism and rampant corruption. People will defend those from their "tribe" regardless of what actions they do. Jacob Zuma is a very clear example of this. Cult leaders like Julius Malema poses a big threat aswell. Africa seems to be going through the same phase Europe went through 150 years ago.

@@frankdooley6451 China can't do much outside Asia. Its fertility rates are lower than ever, and the population will soon begin to decline rapidly. India is still developing. The Middle East is still too unstable. The West is declining as well, though, so most African nations are largely on their own.

Guess who sold Africans to slavers? Other Africans. Guess who still sells African slaves to the world? Other Africans. Guess where you can still find slaves for sale on an open market? Africa. Egypt is actually the largest slave market in the world, and has been for the last half century (even after the Mamelukes were dispersed.) Guess which country has been responsible for the highest ethnic purge in the last century, numbering in millions dead within a span of a few years? Rwanda. Guess which two ethnic groups have been responsible for the longest, bloodiest civil war in history? The Hutus and the Tutsis. Guess which country has had the highest number of ethnic murders not considered to be war crimes? Congo. I have more facts if you want them, though I suspect they don't interest you.

I first went to Kenya in the 1970's to teach both in the social sciences and Education at the University of Nairobi. Some of the students from the U of N from then went on to become leaders in several sectors in Kenya. I have gone back to Kenya many times over the decades since and have followed Kenya closely. Like many African countries today -- indeed, like many countries, period -- Kenya has some strong institutions, others not so strong, and some corruption too. But I know enough, on balance, to respect and support many of Kenya's institutions and the people who staff and lead them. Clearly, Kenya's UN delegation has world-class leadership as shown by Amb. Kimani's brilliant, scholarly, PhD- level dissertation on nation-states in Africa, his country's commitment to maintaining nation-states even if created in earlier colonial times, his country's opposition to a modern colonialism pushed by a "dangerous nostalgia" (brilliant phrase!) for an earlier time. This is all preface to Kenya's immense support for the integrity of the nation-state of Ukraine and a verbal undressing {"from the embers of dead empires") of the Russian government for its crime against a sovereign nation-state and for assaulting its overwhelmigly non-aggressive people. Several of his pithy, cogent, briiliant, remarks deserve to be enshrined on the walls of the UN, and in the halls of governments worldwide. Umefanya vizuri! Ninajivunia! Na asante sana Bwana!
