Ukraine parliament passes mobilisation Bill to boost troop numbers

Ukraine’s parliament passed a new mobilization law last week, following months of debate, in an aim to replenish the country’s exhausted and depleted troops after more than two years of war. But because Ukrainian soldiers are vastly outnumbered by Russian forces on the frontlines, those who have been fighting since the start of the full-scale invasion may have to remain on the battlefield. Sorry to say but you don't get vacation or leave during an active and desperate war. Sending a soldier home for R&R means someone else has to take his place or do the work of two. But when you are already on the back foot and vastly outnumbered that is a hard thing to motivate especially when there is a high risk of desertion. Rotations would have been possible if they had mobilized more troops earlier but i suspect these new troops will barely plug the holes left by casualties much less create redundancy for rotation.

In the US, men are subject to draft starting at age 18. Until last week, Ukrainian men were not subject to draft until age 27! Ukraine has now lowered it to 25, but that's still a full 7 years later than the US draft age. Why?!

Surrendering means Russian occupation. Russian occupation means a return to how things were during Soviet rule with Ukrainians being forcefully conscripted to fight on behalf of Moscow. The Ukrainians understand that surrendering now will heighten their chances of being conscripted to fight Poland, German, USA, etc.

@@lw1zfog It's nothing new. This is a continuation of how things have always been. Ukrainian's were conscripted by Russia to fight in WWI as well as WWII. And when Ukraine was occupied by Germany, Ukrainians were conscripted to fight Russia. When Russia retook Ukraine, the Ukrainians were again conscripted to fight the Germans. Ukrainians were conscripted to fight in Afghanistan... The list goes on. Even the Ukrainians in Donbas who split to join Russia are being conscripted to fight Ukraine. Ukrainians understand that when a war breaks out between Russia and NATO, their boys will be the first to suffer the consequences.
