How?? RF can monitor all shipping from satelites. RF ISR long range drones operate at heights out of range of anything UA can fire at them. But they dont even rely on those because RF aviation has unrestricted use of the NW Black Sea airspace. Manpads can only hit slow CAS jets and helicopters within a few kms. Every RF aircraft can fire missiles from outide manpad range.

@@sisyphusvasilias3943 it's called wishful thinking, it's mistaking "what may happen" with "what I'd really really like to happen", based on each person's biases. Snake Island has been the definition of a sitting duck, in terms of how much it's changed hands in the past year, to the point where it serves zero purpose, beyond a PR tool. I know, I know, Ukraine has already installed Neptune stations on the captured gas platform and is preparing to sink more ships. Ghost of Kiev style.

Also creates some interesting strategic calculus given that Russia - who probably desperately wants to be able to exploit Crimea's resources - may be very reluctant to attack the platforms in any way that risks destroying them or rendering them unusable. I'm sure Ukraine would also rather not destroy them, but they're the one cornered and being invaded, and thus probably have far fewer qualms about burning those particular bridges if threatened.

About Denmark. They volunteered their WHOLE artillery park to Ukraine. Yep, every single barrel. Danish are within fighter coalition for Ukraine. Danes typically dont have massive armies, but they do their job. They have couple pretty impressive surface warships with magnificent AA capability. Danish Navy will be the backstop of Air Defence in south Baltic Sea among RN and USN. Just like Sweden is the harbinger of death from under the sea, surface, and from air, anything that still floats and carries Russian Baltic Sea Navy flag. Finns are helding their blockade position in mouth of Gulf of Finland by sowing the sea with thousands of highly sophisticated mines guarded by Gabriel V batteries in sea and land. Finns can and will shut down all Russian traffic to open Baltic Sea. We have long record of doing that. We OWN the narrows of Gulf of Finland. Finland within NATO will END existance of Russian Baltic Sea Fleet.

On March 19, 2014, Russia seized two drilling rigs from Ukraine: “Petro Godovanets” and “Ukraine”. Two jackup rigs (self-elevating units) “Tavrida” and “Sivash” were also seized, as well as several auxiliary vessels. As I understand it, it was “Tavrida” and “Sivash” which were raided by the Ukrainian military. Not sure they were really "retaken". EDIT: GUR of Ukraine reports the return of two drilling platforms and two jack-up rigs. A photo of the Ukrainian military from the "Petro Godovanets" platform (renamed by the Russians to "Crimea-2") was shown.

saying "retaken" about some place after they took a picture with 0 proof of permanent presence is just idocy ... otherwise one could have said the same about Shebekino (the village in belgorod where Ukrops penetrated took pictures and fled). There is no permanent presence, they can't use it for economic purposes (can't produce without presence, certainly not with military only) and can't be used as negotiating token since both sides know Ukrops don't control any platform or island. The only thing they managed to do with that op is to milk some PR from Propaganda outlets like this one ... to raise morale. since the Tokmak/Melitopol/Berdyansk plan for the Spring Offensive is not reached and we are in autumn.

In addition to the points raised, the platforms are also a lure/trap for the Russians. There will be political pressure to retake them, and if the Navy is made to leave the safety of Sevastopol, the USVs will be waiting for them. On another point, @HISuttonCovertShores is it feasible or desirable to install submarine monitoring equipment on the platforms, to track russian underwater assets?

So far I have not been able to collaborate you report from alternative sources? Regardless, an interesting Black Swan event in developing as the US/NATO are now planning to escort Ukrainian grain ships by first sailing from Ukrainian ports to Romanian ports and then along the coast of Romania and Bulgaria into the Mediterranean Sea. This will hopefully break the Russian blockage and Britain is leading the charge. It will be interesting to see how the Russian will respond. Who knows, it may just be the spark that ignites the fire of war between NATO and Russia...This is long overdue...and I am sure Russia is prepared...

I think calling these ‘gas platforms’ is misleading. These look like jack-up drilling rigs, used to drill and construct wells. They are not involved in the actual production of oil or gas. There is no oil or gas flowing to / from these jack-ups, like there would be from a permanent static platform… unless these are some kind of conversions but that seems unlikely

I’m wondering if Russia is waiting for winter to do a massive naval or joint strike. I know that they are still doing strikes, but it seems like they are not as massive as they were doing last year.
@MeeesterBond17
@MeeesterBond17 11 ай бұрын
According to the Conflict Armament Research group, several of the missile components found after the strikes in Ukraine date from a few months prior to use. It doesn't *prove* that there are no reserves left and that the VDV have been reduced to using munitions fresh off the production line... but it's a red flag. Might explain why the strike rate has dropped.

@@kevinw4267That is your presumption that Russia could've taken, and held, a city of 3,000,000 with a force of 40,000. Moscow gave it a shot, and failed. Then moved that entire force nearly 800 miles to SE Ukraine, to solidify their hold on what they stated as their initial intent, SE Ukraine. So, consuder it an abysmal failure if you wish, they're an experienced army mow, and keeping NATO hopping.

Disappointing video. You are consistently objective and scrupulously impartial in your analysis (although your bias is clear). This was your first "Copium" video and you failed completely to make a sound argument. The video is full of 'caveats' which are in reality to the most critical factors. RF naval, ISR and Aviation control of the Black Sea mean these PR exercises (which is all they are) have zero tactical or strategic advantage. RF could simply isolate any occupied platforms and prevent any resuply and just wait for the men on them to die of thirst. Even if UA can find a way to leverage control of the 1 or 2 platforms they have landed a few soldiers on, RF can eliminate platforms easily, nullifying the UA leverage and restoring complete RF dominance. UA naval drones can be controlled from anywhere, they probably ARE controlled from DC or London, there is ZERO advantage to controlling a couple of platforms. Russia has destroyed three attempted UA landing assaults on Crimea, since the only UA landing on Crimea and even that assault was immediately driven off with majority of the troops killed. If UA was to put AD systems on a platform, RF would destroy it. The other two factors you argue are significant are absurd; "Symbolic" is used when there is zero tactical or strategic benefit. Pro-UA ppl have had almost nothing to cheer about in the last year so they make a huge show and dance about pyrhhic pin prick attacks that have no impact on the war. If UA was winning or having a successful Summer Offensive, landing a few men on a gas platform wouldnt even make the news. As for economic... Russia has more gas than it can ever sell. its like the ridiculous argument that Russia wants Donbas for its coal. UA is desperate for energy sources, RF is the most energy secure nation on earth. IF UA tried to use these platforms as leverage in negotiations, Russia would just occupy them or destroy them.

So, Russia controls the Black Sea yet in the last day or so a Kilo class submarine and a Ropucha class landing ship have taken probably irreparable damage from Ukrainian attack while sitting in dry dock in Sevastopol, Russia's primary Black Sea naval base. If you can't even protect ships in your primary naval base in the Black Sea I don't see how you can claim to control it.
