How?? RF can monitor all shipping from satelites. RF ISR long range drones operate at heights out of range of anything UA can fire at them. But they dont even rely on those because RF aviation has unrestricted use of the NW Black Sea airspace. Manpads can only hit slow CAS jets and helicopters within a few kms. Every RF aircraft can fire missiles from outide manpad range.

@@sisyphusvasilias3943 it's called wishful thinking, it's mistaking "what may happen" with "what I'd really really like to happen", based on each person's biases. Snake Island has been the definition of a sitting duck, in terms of how much it's changed hands in the past year, to the point where it serves zero purpose, beyond a PR tool. I know, I know, Ukraine has already installed Neptune stations on the captured gas platform and is preparing to sink more ships. Ghost of Kiev style.

Also creates some interesting strategic calculus given that Russia - who probably desperately wants to be able to exploit Crimea's resources - may be very reluctant to attack the platforms in any way that risks destroying them or rendering them unusable. I'm sure Ukraine would also rather not destroy them, but they're the one cornered and being invaded, and thus probably have far fewer qualms about burning those particular bridges if threatened.

About Denmark. They volunteered their WHOLE artillery park to Ukraine. Yep, every single barrel. Danish are within fighter coalition for Ukraine. Danes typically dont have massive armies, but they do their job. They have couple pretty impressive surface warships with magnificent AA capability. Danish Navy will be the backstop of Air Defence in south Baltic Sea among RN and USN. Just like Sweden is the harbinger of death from under the sea, surface, and from air, anything that still floats and carries Russian Baltic Sea Navy flag. Finns are helding their blockade position in mouth of Gulf of Finland by sowing the sea with thousands of highly sophisticated mines guarded by Gabriel V batteries in sea and land. Finns can and will shut down all Russian traffic to open Baltic Sea. We have long record of doing that. We OWN the narrows of Gulf of Finland. Finland within NATO will END existance of Russian Baltic Sea Fleet.

I hope they’re well supplied to be able to maintain the platform, because in my point of view, the position can be easily starve out, airborne resupply are most likely to get shot down now that RUS know the platform is occupy, and boat run has a higher chance but could be strafe by airborne fighter. Not going to recommend deploy ship because they would literally be large stationary target by Anti-ship battery guided in by UKR on the platform

On March 19, 2014, Russia seized two drilling rigs from Ukraine: “Petro Godovanets” and “Ukraine”. Two jackup rigs (self-elevating units) “Tavrida” and “Sivash” were also seized, as well as several auxiliary vessels. As I understand it, it was “Tavrida” and “Sivash” which were raided by the Ukrainian military. Not sure they were really "retaken". EDIT: GUR of Ukraine reports the return of two drilling platforms and two jack-up rigs. A photo of the Ukrainian military from the "Petro Godovanets" platform (renamed by the Russians to "Crimea-2") was shown.

There will be political pressure to retake them, and if the Navy is made to leave the safety of Sevastopol, the USVs will be waiting for them. saying "retaken" about some place after they took a picture with 0 proof of permanent presence is just idocy ... otherwise one could have said the same about Shebekino (the village in belgorod where Ukrops penetrated took pictures and fled). There is no permanent presence, they can't use it for economic purposes (can't produce without presence, certainly not with military only) and can't be used as negotiating token since both sides know Ukrops don't control any platform or island. The only thing they managed to do with that op is to milk some PR from Propaganda outlets like this one ... to raise morale. since the Tokmak/Melitopol/Berdyansk plan for the Spring Offensive is not reached and we are in autumn.

I think calling these ‘gas platforms’ is misleading. These look like jack-up drilling rigs, used to drill and construct wells. They are not involved in the actual production of oil or gas. There is no oil or gas flowing to / from these jack-ups, like there would be from a permanent static platform… unless these are some kind of conversions but that seems unlikely

I suspect that the current pipeline to the shore goes to Crimea. I suspect that Ukraine can't lay new pipelines to Odessa, during wartime. Simply cutting the flow to Crimea hurts Russia. But I suspect Ukraine can't exploit the gas until the war is over. If Ukraine reclaims Crimea no new pipelines would be necessary. If the war ends with the platforms in Ukrainian hands, but Russia retains Crimea, new pipelines will be necessary.

Are your information reliable Mr Sutton since it came from the Ukrainian Military Intelligence? How is this possible as the Russian Black Sea Fleet controls the Black Sea? So far I have not been able to collaborate you report from alternative sources? Regardless, an interesting Black Swan event in developing as the US/NATO are now planning to escort Ukrainian grain ships by first sailing from Ukrainian ports to Romanian ports and then along the coast of Romania and Bulgaria into the Mediterranean Sea. This will hopefully break the Russian blockage and Britain is leading the charge. It will be interesting to see how the Russian will respond. Who knows, it may just be the spark that ignites the fire of war between NATO and Russia...This is long overdue...and I am sure Russia is prepared...

Interesting video as always! Personally I believe this won't matter, any progress Ukraine makes at this point won't matter, US elections are in the near future. I feel sorry for those who made the ultimate sacrifice .

So the ukraine "captured" an abandoned platform which they'll have to probably to leave abandoned again, for what a photo op? Oh because they will totally station "game changing" weapons there that the Russians will allow that to happen. Wow just like the heroic recapture of the abandoned Snake Island the ukraine forces cant be stopped! Also the fudge are you saying this could never be imagined? Kiev has been saying Crimea by Christmas for almost 2 years now.

Is the same with Robotyne. That place barely have any wall made by the debris from the few buildings they had to give it any useful on defense. If in the next weeks the zelensky's boys can't take any important site, village or strong position, they will go back more than they advanced. What a waste of people.

It is very good PR. It show that russia is now so weak and incompetent that they can not even defend the occupied coast in a war zone, even from 3 RIB's with a few .50 HMGs.

If you don't see the advantage from gaining a base that cuts the distance to Crimea in half ... . Also: Those rigs would be excellent to improve the Ukrainians Radar picture of the Black Sea.

@@A_Haunted_Pancake They are not "bases". UA landed 5 men on 2 platforms. They have zero heavy equipment, even if they had a few manpads all RF aviation can fire guided missiles from outside manpad range. Russia has destroyed four Crimean assault 'convoys' (
