Ukrainian drone strikes may slow or stop the Russian advance in the east.
Be sure to check out International Intrigue here: www.internatio...
Today we dive into the faltering Ukrainian lines in the eastern portion of the country with a focus on Pokrovsk. We look at why this area is important for both Ukraine and Russia as well as how Russia has been able to advance there so rapidly in recent months. There are a few ways that Ukraine has attempted to slow the Russian assault but nothing has really worked so far, maybe until now. Ukraine just recently launched multiple drone attacks against Russian ammunition depots that led to massive detonations. While the details of what the three facilities held is not entirely known, we should expect this to have a very real, near term impact on the battlefield.

Few corrections: Ukrainians did advance in Kursk beyond the first few days, it's more a couple of first weeks rather than a few days. It's been 6 weeks since the start of the operation already. Second thing, we don't really know if Ukraine moved any forces from Pokrovsk region to fight in Kursk, for all we know these were some reserves that didn't participate in fighting - there's a great difference between taking forces away that are already fighting and using forces that you could potentially use in Pokrovsk. The last thing, we don't know if Ukraine is using complete units in Kursk, from what we know it's much more probable that only elements of those units are fighting in Kursk and we can see other elements of those units fighting in Pokrovsk too.

What he is saying is Ukraine still holds the same amount of ground that they took in the initial first week or so of the Kursk invasion. They have been at around 1100 square miles taken since the first like ~10 days. They haven't since gained any more ground and have dug in to hold it. And they do know they took forces from the east. You think Ukraine invaded Russia with soldiers that have no combat experience?? It's a known fact some of Ukraine's most experienced soldiers were sent to take part in the Kursk invasion. It's easier to have inexperienced soldiers defend, than it is to send them on the offensive. And lastly, I'd be willing to bet that Preston knows a whole lot more than you do, for you to be trying to correct him.

Distribution of resources. 1,000 km front and 100,000 shells per month is 100 shells per km per month on average. If you concentrate your resources to a priority area you get less shells somewhere. There are areas that do not require 100 shells per km. Put the resources in a central location for fast distribution to priority area and you make a good target. If you distribute the shells to more locations you require more shells to maintain the rate of supply because of inefficiencies in distribution. If you do factory to local storage you need a distribution system that is much bigger and open to disruption. Do not invest in Russian Railroads.

"Mobilized eight or nine times" that's a purposeful misunderstanding. They set batches to be sent for training because you can't just train everyone at the same time. @@mtnregnar198Ukraine has lost a lot of people, probably in the realm of 150,000 total casualties, killed and wounded. Their larger problem remains the shortage of modern equipment. Ukraine does not send half-trained conscripts to the front to make suicide attacks with museum piece weapons from the 1950s. The missing soldiers haven't been conscripted because they can't be properly equipped. Those men are more useful to the war effort working in factories, making drones, missiles, armored vehicles and other weapons and equipment.

But Preston, Russia was going like gangbusters toward Pokrovsk but suddenly stopped much forward motion and started to spread sideways. Interestingly, that happened right when Rusky Mil Bloggers and Kremlin TV pundits like Olga Skbeeva and Solovyov started ringing alarms. They started second guessing themselves and the Mil bloggers especially started screaming that AFU probably has traps or booby traps set for them there or else wh wouldn’t they try harder to stop them like before. I think they scared themselves and after the Kursk invasion, they are seeing AFU behind every tree.

The short answer - no. The problems of the Ukrainian army are too huge (an unnecessary front in the Kursk region, a shortage of personnel and ammunition) to expect that the Russians will stop because of the attacks of the airborne drones. This may slow them down, but it won't stop them.

Couple thoughts: 1) if Ukraine's plan was to make the Russians throw everything into a banzai counterattack in Kursk because it's sacred Russian soil, I think that was a pretty long shot. Russia obviously has vast amounts of territory even just in it's European regions, and has always followed the strategy of trading ground for time, letting the invader tire themselves out covering the huge distances. I would Ukrainians of all people to know this, so I still believe their strategy in Kursk is to show that they can defeat Russia in maneuver warfare, and to hold Russian territory to bargain with in the endgame to this war. 2) Flipping things around, instead of looking at Ukraine's lack of manpower and ammunition on the Pokrovsk salient, you could say that Russia has to put multiple brigades into the fight to advance even with Ukrainian forces being in that condition.

They’re also still hitting the air Defense depots. Ukraine doesn’t have the manpower for major offensives. It’s trying to hold out as best they can and stall for time and save as much as they can. My guess is the gamble is to cause shell hunger through the winter and catch Russians at their weakest. No idea whether this will work or not. But Ukraine needs to create heavily lopsided conditions to conduct meaningful advances. Whether the gamble will pay off is anyone’s guess.

A few points: The 47th was stationed at Pokrovsk. It got mauled to some extent and was pulled back to regroup at Pershotravensk. I don't know if it has moved from there. Also, while its's true that Russia didn't move any of its main forces from Pokrovsk to Kursk, it did move a number of reserve units. The effect of that can be seen from the graphs that you show. The number of assaults on Pokrovsk has gone down dramatically as the main forces have had to regroup and the reserves that would have kept up the pressure were not there any longer. Not sure how much good it would have done for Russia, having the reserves at Pokrovsk, as the reserve units that arrived in Kursk are mostly extremely under-strength. I also recently saw some Russian units mentioned in the Kursk area that I believe were, in fact, main units in Pokrovsk. We observe that the Pokrovsk front has started pushing south, with the 59th holding the Ukjrainian salient in that area, instead of toward Pokrovsk itself. Considering that Pokrovsk have slowed down and Kursk has accelerated, it may be that the Russian Pokrovsk front has been weakened. Finally, Ukraine cannot reasonably continue to take more territory in Kursk since any land taken will need to be defended and they only have so many troops. It's better, I think, to consolidate and strengthen the current gains.
@Nordska
@Nordska Күн бұрын
Several battalions were taken from the Pokrovsk direction to Kursk, but the main forces of the Russians remained there. And the speed of advance did not decrease. They simply changed the direction of the attack, turning south. If you open the Deepstate map and scroll day by day, you will see that the speed remained the same. Perhaps they do not have enough forces to storm Pokrovsk head-on and they decided to change their plans.

@@Nordska Right, but Pokrovsk is a massive objective, one of Ukraine's two main logistical hubs, the other being Sloviansk, supplying the Donbas front. If Russia ends up expanding the salient north and south, without surrounding Pokrovsk, it is a successful delay for Ukraine.

Even if Pokrovsk was taken, it would not be a failure of the front line at all. I think that is a little far fetched, especially since the landscape is almost 100% farmland and open. Ukraine has cared more about human life over small land losses. The biggest reason why that offensive has almost stopped is because of the Kursk offensive that has now seen leaked documents showing Russia ignoring the warnings. The reason Pokrovsk is going to stop completely in the next week or two is because of these ammo dump explosions. This is Zelensky's end of war plan, they have crippled the oil sector which has moved air defense around all over the front up to 2000km away and not has open targeting to the ammo dumps that obviously were not impervious to corruption, again. But that is just my assessment. I always appreciate and respect your informed information!

NATO boots on the ground would result in NATO being at war with Russia I.e. the US would be at war too.The US has armament stocks and can, and does provide the weaponry they are due to replace, but the overall contribution from Europe in weaponry, financial and humanitarian aid is much greater.
