It is sad that Ukraine, a country of 12 million fighting age men, can not liberate Kherson, which is defended by less than 25,000 Russian troops. Even if the only weapons Ukraine had were knifes, bows & arrows, and spears, a hundred thousand men charging at night from all directions could retake Kherson and cut their Russian throats. But that would take courage, something Ukrainian men need more of.

kherson fell very quickly, in about a week. russia deployed what turned out to be its most competent forces there. kherson was taken at a time when it was still widely expected that russia would keep advancing and conquer most of ukraine. I think it's possible that somebody on the ukrainian side in kherson made a choice to give up kherson that looks bad in retrospect, but we're unlikely to hear about that sort of thing because ukraine has no interest in reporting any low morale or collaboration on their side.
