I’m new to Ukrainian. However, I have a friend, Lana (what she goes by here in the US), who is Svitlana. But, her real nickname is the diminutive, Svetik. So, diminutives are really the first thing I learned 😂 My second language is Spanish, so there are parallels. Thank you for your content. 🇺🇦 🙏🏼 ☦️🤝🏼🇺🇸

Fun! 😉 You indeed had a nice introduction to our diminutives. ☺️ Did she tell that Svitlanka and Svitlanushka are also on of those endearing derivatives of the name Svitlana? :) Svetik, btw, is more of a Russian origin. :)

@@O_SOMEUkrainians_channelThat’s interesting. She definitely is Ukrainian and identifies this way, as opposed to Russian. We are early 50’s, so she grew up when it was USSR, so maybe this has something to do with it 🤷🏻♂️

@@onecor1031 probably. 🙂We also grew up in USSR (during 80s) and are originally from Russian-speaking regions of Eastern Ukraine. Just thought of sharing this small fact about that specific diminutive form, :) because saw you are interested in the Ukrainian language. :)

@@O_SOMEUkrainians_channel Дякую 🙏🏼 I really appreciate your insight. Learning about ANY Eastern European culture is still very new to me. However, I converted to Eastern Orthodox in 2018, so really cannot help but learn 😂 Слава Ісусу Христу! Слава навіки!
