I watched like 5 videos before this one, and none of them clarified this importante aspect: "STOP ORDERS" are used in the inverse situation (in our perspective) of the "LIMIT ORDERS". Now I finally understand. Thank you so much!

I am new to trading.... Let me run a scenario by you.... Let's say I bought 100 shares of XYZ stock (not a real stock) at $5 a share and I want to later sell them... Which would I use. I would like to have a baseline to be sold at $15 a share (Will not accept anything LOWER than $15) and $20+ a share when it picks up momentum... Do I use choice A) Sell XYZ with a stop-limit order Stop: $15 and Limit: $20 Good till cancelled or B) Sell XYZ with a stop-limit order Stop: $20 and Limit: $15 Good till cancelled? Thanks.

Very informative!! But in case of high volatility if i want to purchase securities after it hits strike price which is higher than current price. What order type should i consider stop buy or marketable limit order ??
@smacpost36 жыл бұрын
Perhaps a stop buy marketable limit order is the type you are looking for? This is my take on it; For a long position, the stop buy will get you into the position at your price, and no lower. But where on the L2 ladder do you want to buy? At bid the price is better, but maybe you won't get filled. Ask is an easier fill, and that's market price, right? And how much are you willing to pay above your ideal entry price? That would be your limit. Example; I predict a breakout if price can get past $10.00, so i place a BUY STOP order at $10.01 . I won't get filled until price reaches $10.01. Getting my order filled is important to me, so I'll buy at the ask. MARKETABLE. I'm willing to pay as much as $10.05 and my RR is still good. LIMIT. Stop buy marketable limit order. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Very new to trading. However have been savagely trying to learn by reading and watching more minutes of youtube informal videos than there are minutes in a day lol. Maybe overloading a bit potentially. Anyways i think i followed you but just to be sure can you please answer a question i have? Kind of a 2 part question actually. Basically in one portion of the video you talked about using a stop sell if the market didnt do as you expected and your losing money as the market is going down so you used a stop sell in order to get out of the trade and minimize your losses. Part 1 Can you also basically use this technique or would this be considered kind of the same thing as a stop loss. Like if i got into a trade at say $20. And the price has gone up to say $100. Can you put in a stop sell at say $90. That way you ensure you will take a profit if the market turns and starts to move down? Part 2 could i later change my stop sell? Like if the market continues to rise and goes up to $160 could i then change my stop sell from $90 and bump it up to $150? Also thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos and especially if you take the time to read comments and answer questions. Ppl like yourself have knowledge that is extremely valuable so for you to take the time to help out people just getting into the market is really beneficial and im sure i can speak for most when i say that we cannot thank you enough.

Good question - if it gaps through that level, you will be filled at the next available price which could be 50. The gap could be overnight or it could be in an illiquid stock

Great video thank you! I have a question about limit orders. If I own a long position and I see the stock is having an up day and I want to sell if it reaches a certain price that is higher than the current price to take the profits... a limit order to sell at a higher price than current would initiate an immediate sell. With a limit sell at a higher price, the sale is initiated at the current price or better if below the limit order price. Is that correct?
@ukspreadbetting5 жыл бұрын
A limit sell order above the market (above the current price) will execute at that price when/if the market gets there. If it gaps above overnight you'll get filled at the first traded price above your limit. A limit sell order below the market will be triggered at the current price or next print above your limit order, and your fill will be at that price (an improvement over your limit sell below the market).
@malthus1015 жыл бұрын
But... setting a buy stop at a higher price because I want to enter if the range breaks out, but it's a market order? So what do I use if I want the same scenario but want to be filled at the exact price? I tired entering a buy limit on a platform at a higher than current price, and it just filled me instantly - super annoying! Why? Why not at the price I set?
@badlazarus5 жыл бұрын
OK this is a good basic intro, but how do you place a buy stop on a stock that you know will blast off the next day? Sometimes they will blow thru your buy stop, and you lose your opportunity.

If I put a limit order to Sell 10k shares @ 22 Will it sell only when the price drops down and reaches @22 Or will it keep on selling for me my 10k shares @ 27or below OR a second Scenario, let us Suppose when I Placed the sell Limit order @ 22 if the stock goes Higher Let us say now from 27 to 30, will my 10k stocks sell at all difference below 30 to 22 Limit ? Stops are great for moves against your position to limit your loss. But nothing will stop the loss that occurs on opening bell with a huge gap up or down. A stop is a market order and will be filled with what the market will pay. I have lost 100% on a position because of a large gap on the opening bell against my position. Nothing you can do will protect you against that.

If for eg The market is trending upwards and I have placed several buys orders in (no limits or stops). Will a pending order buy limit, limit all the buy orders? Also does a pending order buy stop, stop all buy orders in at a point?
@ukspreadbetting5 жыл бұрын
If the market is trending up and you want to buy as it moves to say new highs, you will use a BUY STOP order. If the market was up trending but you were looking to buy on a pullback lower, you'd use a BUY LIMIT order which would only be filled if the market moved back to your price. - Mark

If you place a limit or stop order and it ends up being in a gap. Do they still get triggered? And do stop losses get triggered?
@ukspreadbetting5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger - depends on the situation. (I'll do a video on this) but if you have a stop market order and the price gaps through it will still be triggered but at the next available price. eg: Buy stop on your short trade at 100 - market opens and gaps up to 103. You'll get filled at 103. If you have a buy limit set at 100 and the market gaps up to 103 - you won't get filled as the limit specifies the maximum price you are willing to pay. If however that was a sell limit at 100 and the market gapped to 103, you'd be filled at 103 as that is a better price than 100 on your sell order. Hope that makes sense, but watch out for a video. thanks, Mark
