I took a film sequence course in college years ago (before digital) and they used to say, set your camera in a stationery spot or tripod and let the action pass into and out of the frame. We are tempted t o chase down the subject and as you say "whip it around" haha. Common error. I was taking Mass Media in the mid 70s at USF. A lot of it is still universal.

Thank you, Chris! I just watched your JMT vid and was wondering what you used and whoa.. well, here it is. I've just decided over the last couple of weeks to be serious about making vids, so far all I have in my iphone so lots of filters in the pics for dramatics so far, lol. This was really helpful thank you again and I really enjoy your awesome work.. Chris is truly.. AWESOME!

Hi from Holland, what about the Sony FDR-X3000R 4K action camera? I think Will from Zpacks uses it because of video stabilization.

This vid is pretty old so much is outdated, but yep Will does use the Fdt3K. Wills an awesome guy and is also in our upcoming film highlinefilm.com I still use GoPro’s sometimes, but I’m seriously considering the new dji osmo pocket. Check it out! It’s super light and has an actual build in gimbal.

Would you consider making videos on how to shoot videos/photos like you do
@OutmersiveFilms7 жыл бұрын
Thats an interesting idea. Anything specific you're looking to learn about? Video work can be a broad topic.

I would love to see some tips for using the Final Cut Pro X... I have only been using iMovie, and to be honest, not real great with that. Shake is my biggest hang up right now, so some stabilization tips would be great... at least in editing. I have had to tell my self to slow down when winging my camera/phone around while videoing... I have been trying to make myself walk slower, or sometimes even stop walking at all. Anyway, great video! Thanks for sharing! :)

Gotcha. I'll put some thought into that and try t put something together. Btw in the mean time I just launched a website www.chrisisawesomeproductions.com There's some camera stuff on there to check out.

Heya Stick! I'll put some thought into a video for that. Going from iMovie to FCPX is fairly intuitive at first. But there's a lot more options and flexibility. I hear ya on the camera shake thing. In post you can smooth things a little, but its best to get it smooth in the field. I've been using gimbals and dolly's lately which help a lot, but add weight to your pack. A bunch of that stuff is detailed on my new website here: www.chrisisawesomeproductions.com/gear/

How was the battery life/ back country usability with a gimble??
@OutmersiveFilms5 жыл бұрын
Heya! Gimbal battery life is pretty good. My Zhiyun crane batteries last me about 2 days, and my little EVO will last 3-4 days. Gimbals like these are great but they don’t correct for up/down movement which is a big issue on rocky trails. So I definitely recommend practicing a lot.

Good presence on camera. Please review ultralight audio solutions. Lavalier Microphones? Connectivity issues, etc.? Please review ultralight gimbals, especially the cheaper Chinese versions?

+Tom Noyb that's a good idea. After lots of trial and error, I recently revamped my audio setup and I'm finally happy with it. Will work on another vid.

Thanks for this video! exactly the kinda info I was after. Did you find the image stabilization on the hero 5 better than the hero 4?
@OutmersiveFilms6 жыл бұрын
John Brophy Thanks! This is a bit old, I should probably make a new one at some point. The GoPro Hero 4 and 5 feel about the same as far as stabilization. The Hero 6 however is a HUGE leap forward in that regard. The stabilization is almost gimbal like. Totally recommend it.
@JohnBr06 жыл бұрын
Cool - I had read it was a lot better. Do you have any newer accessory recommendations? I love the looks of that lightweight tripod and egg timer.
@OutmersiveFilms6 жыл бұрын
John Brophy Happy Easter! Yep I mention a few in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqSXeXl5iNlpaac The Evo gimbal on a trekking pole is great. You can shots that look like drone shots without breaking any wilderness regulations. See my Rae Lakes film for lots of examples of that in use.
