I’m totally with Brodie on this one. The best way to have elite series events in Europe is to have an entire European swing of the tour, during which elite series events in the USA aren’t happening
@DiscGolfGallery71
@DiscGolfGallery71 Ай бұрын
I'm sorry but you and Brodie haven't really figured out yet how it's going to be or how it is even now. There is multiple tournaments happening all over the world at the same time. Not just in USA or Europe. There is no need to have the same players attending all of them. That is not even possible.
@birdinflight3861
@birdinflight3861 Ай бұрын
@@DiscGolfGallery71 nobody is saying that should happen. Disc golf is huge in Finland, Estonia, and some surrounding European countries, and most international players that come to the USA for the pro tour are from that area. It makes perfect sense to do a leg of the tour out there. They are already essentially doing it, but they are spreading out the events which doesn’t make sense because it’s going to be hard to convince all of the pros to take multiple trips to Europe each year. A 5 tournament swing in Europe all in a row makes perfect sense.
@markush1122

I don't know why people are making this such a difficult thing. It's simple. DGPT Europe events are mainly aimed at European players (US players are naturally all welcome too). It is not required (and there is no need for) every US pro to go to every European Elite event. They don't have to attend every Elite event, like it is now for the European Pros, they actually can't attend every Elite event in the US (unless they stay there from February to October) and only handful of European Pros can attend the US events at all (like it is with the US players and DGPD Europe events, at least for now). It is OK that players skip an event if it doesn't fit their tour schedule/travel plans. These events are called DGPT Europe for a reason. Their main purpose is to give European players a chance to compete at an Elite level without having to fly over to the US and spend at least 6 months or more overseas in order to have the same kind of chance like the US pros now have to collect enough points to get to the tour championships and most importantly, to make a living out of this sport they love. There is no problem here. If some DGPT Europe events fit US players schedules, then they can play in those events. They don't have to force anything. Again, not every player needs to play in every tournament and we are going to see more of that going forward. I'm quite surprised that people make this such a problem/issue, when in reality it is not. If a US player wants to go to a European event and he has the money to do so, then he goes to that event. Another US pro doesn't have the money to go, so he doesn't and stays in the US where there are plenty of Elite events to compete in. It is that simple, every player does what is suitable to their situation. And the other thing: the players who play in one specific event, that is the field in that specific event. It is also that simple, no need to make it a bigger thing than it is (of course it can be talked about, but not in a condescending way, like some have now). Not every Elite event needs to have every top Pro in it. Things are changing but people are staying in the past and being confused why things are not like they used to and trying to use the old way of thinking to this new situation. Change is the only constant in life. DGPT Europe is trying to make things fairer to players who want to play professionally, but couldn't do that before just because of where they happen to live. The main thing that we need to stop is making this a dividing matter. US against Europe mentality is not the way forward (Grip Locked Podcast...). We are all the same, we are all one and we need to stop seeing in opposites. People fear new (or foreign) things, because they want to keep things like they are now, like they like them to be ("Who cares if some people have a harder time to achieve same things as other players, just because they live somewhere else, I want things to stay like they are now, the way I like them."). Hopefully people stop overcomplicating this whole thing and start to see it in a more positive and relaxed way.

Congrats to Paul for coming to Denmark and having the biggest points haul of the season. That will go a long way for the tour championship. Not to mention Paul getting maximum exposure in coverage from every round. Come on over if you think it's that easy. It would be wise for some players to put all their efforts in to smaller tournaments. Like a week before or after a major when everybody is already tired. If you score a win in a smaller event you will always be a winner on tour, not just somebody who was 30th in a major. Chantel Budinsky will always be an event winner in DGN coverage. Nobody is remembering all the time what the event was or if there was a strong field. Just saying.

Brodie is still on about the age thing, it usually isn't solely about age in any sport, it's about injuries sustained, that's why some running backs are irrelevant by 27, and others play until they are 34. I think if AB stays relatively healthy, then yeah, he will still be playing well at 32, but if he has a bunch of injuries that effect the strong parts of his game, then he might not be playing at the same level he is now. I think the sport is advancing towards, and will continue towards understanding the injuries involved and both working to treat them properly, and/or attempting to lower the risk all together. I hope this is the case, because I'd love to see the next generation stay healthy and not have a bunch of nagging injuries.

2 things: 1) Disc golf is not the NFL or the PGA yet. Touring pros sometimes depend on A, B, and C tier events to make extra money to be able to tour. Keep in mind there are some unsponsored touring pros out there trying to earn a sponsorship. Fans often only have an impression of the top tier pros which don't necessarily need A tiers to make it. Half the pro tour field though, is not making tons of money and the A, and B tier tournaments still help them make some extra money. 2) This is similar to the flight number discussion, but ratings are still incredibly important to at least have an idea of how good a player is. Are they perfect? Certainly not. But I with 100% certainty, I know that a 900 rated player will lose to a 1030 rated player almost every time they play each other. Ratings are much more important at the lower levels, they can help a player decide what division to play in, or why not to play in an A-tier with limited spots if you have a super low rating. I would much rather have ratings than not have ratings.

Amuricans be like "But I don't have a Passport" or "But I don't fly" but then "Your points, wins and tournaments are way less important because I was not there". LOL. Maybe it's time to fo back to momma and come back when ready to act like a pro athlete competing in international sport instead of just pretending to be / talking like one? P.S. Are all the US FPO tournaments insignificant during the summer, because the top of the world is competing in their home turf?

I start every comment with: 'Brodie you're an idiot, this take F'n suks.' (Fill-in the suky take) ....that phrase has-been deemed universally applicable for any response..

Pro disc golfers can barely afford a haircut and shave. They're not going to fly to an event.

One of the more boring podcast. Spent too much time talking about wins in EU and germs major win? And what was the other dumb topic that should be 5 mins but argue for the sake of it lol.

Uli acting like disc golf companies out here paying for players to travel to Europe. If these million dollar companies would buy flights than the presence would be better.

And you are acting like the europeans don’t constantly fly to usa for tournaments

Yeah pretty crazy that the Team Captain of Discraft would think he has the relevant information on that topic.

@@teukka623 It's a no-brainer, but I’ll break it down for you. 11 PDGA Majors (one European), meaning 91% of all majors are in the US 23 DGPT Elite Series (five European), meaning 79% of all elite series are in the US. With all this being said, why would you ever waste thousands of dollars in travel pay for a shot at winning? When the majority of all the money and tournaments are within driving distance and much cheaper to travel to. The last point regarding the financial perspective is to take Ulis 4th place finish this last week. He still only cashed $2081 dollars. He, at best, broke even on this trip in regards to flights, rental Airbnb, food, etc.

This is dumb. Being critical is not a bad thing. Being able to understand the criticism and take it as another way to make things better. If you just say everything is ok, there won’t be changes

Maybe after Kevin gets married, he can remember how to play disc golf again. Maybe he’s sticking with his fake DJ career. Averaging 60th when you’re one of the top five best players in the world a few years ago is fucking ridiculous.
