I had the first medium sized ship on the server - back then it was like me and two other guys who even sailed, there were no ship pks. I remember almost pking richest player on the server Stormy Daniels on second day of the server. I remember how quickly people got together for the first houses it was within a day or two, people were PRE PLANNING how to do this before server opened on discord and doing podcasts about the launch strategy. The creator and everyone working on Outlands did a fantastic job with it. If anyone is curious AND if you have free time because it WILL take up your time, this is a really fun thing to get into for awhile.

It worked as it does here, except the more shit you did, the longer you stayed gray. After a few times it was basically permanent. Just watching this, with all the complicated stuff you have to figure out to do with razor and settings, seems like this would be so hard to get into for a new player. I have played UO off and on since release and slowly learned third party programs, macros, etc. It's fun, like this server and Project 1999 for Everquest are the best MMO experiences available imo, but it's sort of a mess playing 3 accounts at once using a third party program and almost needing to know how to code to set up complicated behaviors in macros. I'm impressed with anyone who started with Outlands and got the hang of it without prior UO experience.

I was afraid that too much time had passed and UO was no longer on it's golden days, such is the fate of most MMOs, but this video was like a shining ray of light. Specially the knight ceremony, with many players lining up to actually roleplay the thing... It's beyond moving. I love Outlands so much and the new expansion just released this weekend! When I was new to Outlands I was jacking some lumber northwest of Prevalia and it was a territory belonging to Reds. I was stopped by a Red and they roleplayed that I pay the fee to have access to their lands or I run the risk of dying. I paid a meager sum of gold as I was very poor and they granted me access to the territory and said that they would pass the word along to allow me to pass through.

@@PixelRookieOfficial Make sure you find and bookmark potential spots in advance. During the last expansion I basically roleplayed the realter lol. Invested all my gold into buying passes from the others and ended up almost placing the biggest possible house on the shard. You can't buy passes directly, but you can pay the person to use his pass and place a 8x8 house where you want and after the lottery transfer it to you for the remainder of the fee. That's how some ended up with huge plots. This was probably the most enjoyable part of playing on Outlands, at least for me. Needed to deal with lots of people in order to make it happpen. For a beginner it's better to look for some good farming and close to water spots, which are surrounded by some obstacles, so placing 8x8 wouldn't let others to place another 8x8 between your house and those obstacles. There should be 4 tiles between another potential nearby house, so leaving 3 tiles denies that. Make sure you test Windmill. That sucker has weird footprint and some guilds got screwed up last time, because some placed those in their big plots. You can test everything on test server and/or by placing pouches on the ground to mark house borders and then using surveying tool to place wanted house. Let me know if you have questions. Cheers

My problem with this game is that one of the things it motivates me the most in rpgs is to find rare items, rare gear etc, and this game doesnt have that at all, i lost my gear several times and bought it back lmao, no boss is gonna drop you a crazy weapon or something like that.
@PixelRookieOfficialАй бұрын
I think that is definitely a valid point. There are many rare items that are blessed, but you aren't going to find orange legendary drops like in most MMOs. The rare equipment that you can't lose is more for aesthetics than increasing your stats. There is something that I like about not being completely bound to rare drops to being powerful in this game as that comes from codices, aspect mastery and your mastery chain. There are still weapons that are much better than others, but you are right that all it takes is a single gank to lose it, which does suck lol. When I want to get my loot hunting dopamine fix, I play Diablo 2 Resurrected instead (GOAT of loot dropping IMO hehe)

Interesting videos; was recommended these by KZbin after idly checking out the new server that Official UO is beta testing; for those coming here new too, just a word of warning; this isn't the same 27 year old MMORPG as per the title. Mechanically, outside of pinching some of the artwork, basic sprite etc movement and combat, and allowing full Player Killing, it seems Outlands is absolutely nothing like Official UO at any point in its history. The engine appears to be using the Enhanced client with Classic character art (which isn't possible on Official)? World maps are completely different, all the exciting boss fights you see etc are custom, the skill system is radically different... You can argue in many ways it's more like what a UO-2 would have been, or UO could be had it a much more creative and adventurous development team than the one it actually has. In particular, I was amused to see UO Razor involved; having worked on Official UO back in 2012-2014ish, some of the Japanese EMs tried to use Razor to help with official events, but got an absolute bollocking from Messana and were told to drop it. So we were stuck with the EA tools, which didn't work well and were unsupported, and what ever fan made stuff had been authorised in the past... including UO Wedding for the Classic Client which was released in 1997! Unfortunately, Official UO will never be like what you see here, as it's just too hamstrung by the EA licence, and upper management toxcity and myopia. The old sense of roleplay and community does seem to be there, which is good to see, but on Outlands you really will have to be able to accept being randomly killed and scammed; I'd be interested to know whether every example of the author being locked into a house and killed ended with a polite handshake as per this video... in original UO's history it wasn't, and even now you still have to deal with literal sociopaths who don't know where the line is drawn and take it outside of the game and try and stalk and harass you. It was that way 10 years ago now when I was paid staff on Official UO too... I had 7 years of rape and death threats and account hacks for criticising Garriotts follow up Shroud of the Avatar too... it's an experience which appeals to some, what the author describes as "risk vs reward" and "a constant sense of danger" and those it appeals to REALLY love it and paint it as perfect and pure, but it's not for everyone... UO dropped non-consentual PKing because the vast majority of account closures named it as the reason for quitting; and that will remain true in Outlands as well, it's a niche gameplay style that only appeals to a few. Anyone wondering about playing Outlands should be aware of that potential going in. You'll meet good people, but there's also the chance you'll meet someone who makes it their life mission to hurt you, and because of the game mechanics, they potentially really can. Not mentioned here is whether Outlands matches the original UO back in the 90s, in that if your house key is on your body when you die, they get your house and everything in it...? Still, I'm glad that Outlands is there for those who want to play it. And the developers certainly have shown the way even a PvE based UO might have gone. I'm very impressed with what they've done with the engine, but I'd never want to play it myself.

As someone who always wanted to play UO growing up and never had the chance, I was really pleased when I discovered Outlands. I’m not sure if you saw, but I also have an OSI Ultima video I did before this one. I was severely underwhelmed by the present state of retail UO if I’m being honest. It was a neat experience, but it wasn’t what I would consider necessarily fun. With Outlands, I feel like it is what UO could have become had it got proper support from EA and captures the “essence” of what UO is with the community. I was never there originally so there’s that, but it really does a good job capturing that experience as someone who always wanted to play it growing up.

D2 Resurrected opened a powerful gate of nostalgia for me and I stopped working on YT for like 2 months straight because of it hahaha. I would say that D2 and Outlands are quite different in terms of the core gameplay loop, but Outlands is really fun in its own way. Just know that you aren’t going to be finding lots of cool pieces of loot and gear with affixes to them, which is a huge aspect of what makes D2 so special, and the combat isn’t a “run around and melt everything on your screen” kind of gameplay. It’s definitely a little grindy, but I honestly enjoy that. Hope you’re able to check it out and enjoy it!

Ilove this game and the Outland server is the best out there. But i just wish the ui was streamlined without the need to setup macros to play the game. In my eyes that is a huge barrier to new gamers giving this wonderful game a chance.
@PixelRookieOfficial26 күн бұрын
It really is clunky as all get out when you start playing for the first time. It is quite the adjustment to find a sweet spot that works for you an I could definitely see a lot of platings dropping off the game before getting to that point. I think they made some changes to the default settings when you start a new character though

The only MMO where PvP was not optional and full loot was on. A few companies have since tried to replicate, but the whiny ass PvE babies always win with their whiny ways and the MMOs are made to be PvP optional which essentially turns them into PvE. Even at that I can't think of any games where you lose everything when you die. I think VRising has that option but most servers are set to keep your gear when you die. I would love to play a game with the original UO ruleset and updated graphics and an interface that doesn't require scripting. My biggest problem with Outlands is that everyone runs scripts. I guess it's ok since everyone is doing it but it feels like cheating to me.
@PixelRookieOfficial7 күн бұрын
I am one of those whiny weenies that get mad when I get ganked while PvMing lol. That is part of the thrill of the game though - you are almost never safe. It does get frustrating when you get run down by one red and another back to back and I dislike that having a truly optimized PvM build meant you were way more vulnerable to reds, but I think Outlands did a good job with keeping that balance honestly. I don't mind the scripts, but I do think it becomes unnecessarily complicated. I would love for it to be more streamlined.

The problem with "hard core" mmorpgs is that it doesn't result in fun duels or something, it results in gank raids that take 0 risks just farming solo players.

Your KZbin editing is just crazy good.. I'm curious how much time it took to actually go through the recording footage and edit this? Do you have an editing team or any special editing tools? Maybe I just need to put more effort into my videos to make them as good as this...
@PixelRookieOfficial5 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the kind words! I always strive to push my editing skills and make entertaining videos. I can answer your questions in order: It took me a LONG time to make this video. Granted, I do not do this full time and have a full time job and three kids (a 1 year old, 3 year old and 10 year old... they keep me busy busy) so I could have done this faster if I was fully focused on it. I actually started this project almost two years ago lol. I ended up recording a bit and then when I went back in to finish the project, I ended up spending a few more months playing and enjoying the game while recording here and there to finish the ending portion. I had over 200 gigs of raw gameplay footage and it was mostly figuring out how I wanted to structure the video and then trim it up to capture those parts of my journey. When I finished trimming and writing/recording the script, which took many hours to do, I think the editing was almost 2 weeks of editing any chance I got. I probably put in a few dozen hours on this project overall. I am a solo editor and all I use is a combination of photoshop to snag images and edit them and premiere to put it together. If you break it down, a lot of the editing is just jump cuts, quick zooms or slow panning and adding sound effects to go with stuff. It isn't HARD per say, but it is a pretty slow and tedious process. I struggle with "good enough" videos and take a long time to edit most of the time and this hurts when I don't have much free time to work on it. If you want to drive yourself insane, try to have something visually interesting happen every 1-3 seconds of footage (image pop ins, jump cuts, zooms, etc) and you can make a banging video that is more visually interesting. It takes a ton of time and is a real pain in the butt, but the end justifies the means IMO. I hope this comment helps answer your questions and thanks again for the kind words

I am not aware of anything like that. Do you mean for scripted farming? Any scripts that help automate chopping wood, mining, skinning, etc require a CAPCHA to be entered once every 15-20 minutes or something like that. If you don't enter it in, you do not continue to farm. That is all I am aware of though.

Haven't played Outlands for a while, but my experience was 1. Go to dungeon 2. Fight mobs for 2 minutes 3. Get swarmed by a gank squad of PKs (very sweaty) 4. Repeat forever I don't think I'm masochistic enough to play this server 😂
@PixelRookieOfficial4 ай бұрын
I think those kinds of PK groups come and go, but since getting back into the game the past few weeks, I have only run into 2-3 groups total and only died once. There are a lot of ways to avoid getting PKed but I feel like you need to get past the basics to know how to do this effectively. Sadly, if you are a new player and getting targeted by PKs (they are the easiest targets), it can definitely lead to a frustrating and unfun experience.
