Definitely sounds like it has one loose rocker, I know it has solid lifters but one rocker stands out from all the rest probably needs a valve adjustment.

Good ear, poor speakers, probably just valve adjustment. It ran super hard, i got on it. Appreciate you following the Samspace81 channel.

The reason most big block engines were destroyed back in the day was because people would go out and get on it hard and not bother to adjust the valves afterwards " because it was too much trouble " . They needed to be adjusted after every missed shift or every time it was revved past 5 thousand rpm . Failure to do so resulted in swallowing at least one valve .

My brother bought a brand new 68 RS SS Camaro with alum headed L89. It sucked a valve.

If that is indeed the 375hp...then where is the lumpy idle? Im no expert but im sure the 375hp solid lifter 396 had a pretty aggressive cam. This one sounds ....well uncammed! !!
@samspace819 жыл бұрын
Darrren Betker oh no no no, it is not only the 375HP, but the L-89 aluminum head version of the 375HP 396. This is basically the same engine as the '65-66 L-78 425HP 396, both grossly under-rated in horsepower. It is simply well-tuned, the valves are set properly as is the cam timing. Its an absolute MONSTER to drive.

Darrren the L78 and L89 both were putting out around 450 HP from the factory, I was there none of them had a lumpy cam idle, the L89 had alum. heads that saved 110 lbs off the front of the car also the exhaust valve was larger on the L89.
@jjack68965 жыл бұрын
@@NewtonWashinton WRONG...I had an original L78, it had a solid lifter cam and a lumpy idle until 1200 RPM.

Darren, apparently you're aging more than you know as your hearing's a bit 'off.' What you hear isn't a bad tappet/rocker arm, it's the nice, subtle rumble of a mechanical lifter engine. Also, you do know that the internal combustion engine has a cam(s).Cheers!

@@samspace81 thats is my dream Camaro. the color, the options, the interior color. that is my dream car. for now i drive a 2012 all black ss ls3 powered Camaro. i did the zl1 rims/ tires swap ( the real forged rims...not replicas)... and i had the rally stripes painted on in 2021 tesla white pearl . the gen5 decals look bad...so 1500 bucks plus hood...I'm set apart from the crowd. as close to a Tesla as I'll ever get. nothing stands out like a 69 Camaro though. maybe 70' as a close 2nd...but what you have there is the pinnacle. THE PINNACLE!!!
