I was disappointed that they didn't show the 1976 Grand Final. I heard all about how 1976 was Hawthorn's special premiership and how they won it for Peter Crimmins as well as how John Kennedy read the letter from their dying teammate before the match who told them that he was going to ride every bump of the game with them even if he was not there in person. Even if the game only had 3 goals in the last quarter, I had to buy the Hawthorn 1976 Premireship DVD just to see the full match as it was never played on TV during those Grand Final marathons each Friday night early Saturday morning before the game. From what I heard, the 1972 Grand Final had that massive score between Carlton and Richmond being kicked. And the 1978 Grand Final was only decided by around 3 goals in the end and even that wasn't shown on the DVD that the AFL released.

I asked my late aunt who was a fourth generation Melburnian and a hard nosed Carlton supporter which one was the better Grand Final victory against the Pies and she said, “1979 as we had a 21 point lead at 3/4 time and we won by less than a goal… but I can’t deny or dismiss the excitement and exhilaration that the Blues put on display in the ‘70 GF”

Why didn't this video show the 1972, 1976 and the 1978 grand final?

As a 17 year old, I really enjoyed the skill level that Carlton produced that day. 28.9 is a Grand final record that had to be seen to be believed. Richmond were playing catch footy all day but couldnt match the Blues accuracy. I'm with you on this point, the highest scoring GF of all time and not a mention. As for 76 & 78, can't remember anything out of the ordinary from these games, although I'm sure Hawks supporters will beg to differ. Sure the Peter Crimmins story is well worth telling.

Tony the 78 grand final is important because the play is fast, the kicking is better than the early 70s. The screamers are plentiful.

I can remember back in the day when footy jumpers didn’t have Ads all over and you didn’t have to mortgage your house to get something to eat or buy a beer at the footy Melbourne actually use to win a game or two and we’re considered to be somewhat competitive. Just sayin.
