I am 75yo and played in this era but it was only the big men that hit us behind the play;cos they could and they thought they were tough.I was 5’8”” and 63 kilo and I had my jaw broken by a sniper from behind and now have no teeth; just heard my name mentioned haha😊

I think that some of the footage at about 6:00 could be from an infamous Carlton-Collingwood match in about 1970 in which eight players (four from each side) were reported, but all the charges had to be thrown out on a technicality because the umpire didn't lodge his report with the VFL by the formal deadline.

Notice how, even with hits 10x bigger then today the guys get back up unless knocked out. Today’s players would be down for 15min, sad. Don’t miss the cheap stiff arm stuff, do miss the hard legal bump. Never should have been taken out of the game.
