ULTIMATE auto SORTER and STORAGE system Astroneer

Modular auto Sorter-Storage system in Astroneer with overflow protection.
In this video I’m showing you how to build or update a simple smart automated sorter and storage system in Astroneer that can contain all your precious resources and help you manage them efficiently. We will complete this contraption with an overflow protection system that will store random or exceeding items and a good old power on/off switch for emergencies. And an EXO Chip separate area will be completed as well!
Storage will be made by large canister that can contain up to 400 resources each, and it is a modular system, so you can expand it to your liking. Platforms, canisters and auto arms will filter and sort the items going into the storage system and deposit them in the right place. Just chose how you prefer your resources to be displayed and let the system sort them for you. Waiting for Snails and the Nintendo Switch update!
I will also show in a simple way how canisters work and how they relate to auto arms in relations to priority. Storage and sorting as fast as a blitz!

For you newcomers, we dug holes and put nodes in the ground because Astroneer used to have random wind storms that would blow anything not nailed down away. So we put nodes in the ground before there was storage otherwise the wind would scatter them across the planet.

@David you can also turn the system off with the power switch

If you make a button that switches state on all the storage containers from hold, to deploy, and at the same time turn off the power to all the auto arms, you can pick your item without having to move the storage containers, and without having to switching the state on each that you need. Some items might temporary be moved to free slots, but goes back as soon as you turn it on again using the same button. If the arms picks the items before they goes back into the storage, add a two out of sync count to 2 counters between the button and the power switch and put a delay repeater on the one that turns the power on (not the one that turns the power off).

Never made a pit, just ended up with piles of resources in groups. This is a nice idea. I have a tower of medium containers, which I have to manually fill up. But I like being able to just get resources from the dispenser.

I use a version on this that is more square and can be more neatly expanded. Basically you have the large canisters on large platform A(no idea how to make this plural, everything I think of sounds weird). With output on. Some filtered auto arms to fill each one, and with the output on. You can add as many layers as you want(if you have space) with auto arms taking the item the canister is dispensing and putting it into another canister, it looks very neat, although it does take up a lot of space if you want every resource.

This tutorial looks very promising and was explained in a very straight-forward and simple way! I want to do it in my world if/when I have all the structures unlocked. While I didn't have my things laying in the pit in the ground (well, maybe except debris bundles), they were stored in those medium storage items, so it was a lot and not organized at all. And your system looks very much organized, so I hope I will be able to do sth similar on my own too

You can do a simple version of this with medium storage cans and large silos, all on one large c platform. The cans draw resources from the wings of the platform automatically by appropriate type.

Hi Kuya. Inspired by this I developed my own auto storage system, with a few modifications: Firstly I used medium storage on Large Platform B as I can't see myself ever having a need for 400 items of anything 😎 Each Platform has a Large Storage in the middle to carry 4 Mdm Resource Canisters The first platform has canisters for the 4 resources that are either used only in their natural state or in both their natural and refined state- - Resin, Compound, Quartz and Organic. The remainder of the platforms hold the Refined Resources with the auto arms moving the resources along the chain from the two vacant slots at the end of one side of the B Platforms. There is also a platform holding 4 Mdm Gas Canisters for the 4 gasses not produced on Sylva. At the end of the like there is a Smelter that feeds in from the chain and out on the opposite side of the B Platforms. This then allows for a second set of auto arms going back down the line using the other two vacant slots on the B Platforms and placing all of the now refined products into their appropriate canisters. Its still in early development at this stage. But I suspect I will need to add one ore two more Smelters with an overflow point to capture any produce that doesn't need to go through the Smelter. But I would probably not have bothered if I had not seen your clip first, thanks.

The main issue is that canisters are closed so you can't take resources from them. And if you switch them to auto-output it will mess up the sorting system. There is also a possible issue where one of your canisters runs out of resource and gets "polluted" by a resource meant for a different canister.

I have a similar system where I dump all my materials on a train station which then gets picked up by passing trains on a completely independent line then those trains loop around and auto arms take whatever material they are looking for and deposit it in the correct canister and as for smeltable materials the same applies but they go through smelter inbetween before being deposited in their correct canister I just have a seprate storage for stuff like exo chips as realistically the only stuff that gets deposited on that train system is materials I’m collecting from extractors or cave systems

You could have your power on a separate platform, connect that to the platform where your storage and auto arms are through a power switch. Now you can trigger the power switch on or off whenever you want 😊

great video, though it dosnt feel like step-by-step, as you cut to different explanations during the first parts. so the long platforms in the back arent really explained, that well. so it just takes a bit more back n forth in the video :) but good content dude !

Nope, that's the only one I've published... I have tried more advanced setups but they require so many auto arms i don't think they are worth it

I see you are in creative mode on this video, but can you do this same type of setup in a regular game? These canisters are part of base game correct?

Yes, everything you see can be made in adventure... You may start with the smaller canisters and expand later, you might need a nanocarbon alloy farm to get the quantity you need to make the bigger canisters

My ocd hasn't allowed for a resource pit, even from day one. Edit: I will however abandon things i don't want out of view of my base, to be dealt with if i happen to run across it again and have a use or way to getting rid of it.

I NEVER stored all my items in a pit. I loaded them on medium crates and left THOSE in a pit 😅😛
