If you do go to a day jigging how many kilo fish can you catch by jigging only ?

Hi Heath. Since this is for newbies I want to refine the discussion on braid selection ( 6:00 > ). When looking for a good braid for deeper drops, especially with strong current, look at the diameter of the braid, not just the breaking strength, because nowadays diameter within a specific breaking strength class can vary widely. Also look at the weave number. Typically you can find 4x up to 12x count weave, meaning the braid was made with 4 individual threads or up to 12 individual threads. Usually the higher thread count means a stronger line within a specific weight class. For example a 15lbs 4x will often be thicker and more coarse than a 15lbs 12x. Also, look at the smoothness of the weave. Some braids look like they could be used as a rope saw in a pinch while others feel as smooth as silk. To sum it up, the smoother and thinner line will have less resistance, so if for example you want to use a 15lbs test braid, look for the thinnest diameter within the 15lbs class with a smooth, slick feel in order to help keep your jig in a vertical position. If you find the jig is still going off at an angle consider changing to a heavier jig. Hope that helps. Great tutorial as always 👍

Hi Heath, I can't believe it's Sunday night already. This was a really good video. I would love to try slow pitch jigging sometime. I'm going to try a modified version, the next time I'm in some deep water. The pond next to the house has bass, crappie and sun fish. It's pretty shallow, so I can't try it here. Maybe when I go up to Lake Wappapello I can try it. It really looks like fun. I'm going back to NJ in August for a visit but I won't have enough time to saltwater fish. Good videos keep them coming. 7:35 in my opinion this is why slow pitch will be band. It is obviously a bait and snag technique. The fish gets curious but doesn't necessarily need to bite since the jigs are designed to sang and foul hook them.

I always enjoy listening to your videos. I am in Thailand, and jigging here is not high on the list, and if you want to go out, impossible. This bay is drained, and the locals are not into it. The deepest I could get a boat to take me was 20-25 meters. So I am preparing to move to the Philippines, but all I got is videos to learn from until then. I do have some questions regarding your information: (1) Why do you use a 40 lbs leader line and 30 lbs mainline? Should it not be the opposite? I say this because when I fished steelheads, my leader line was lesser than the mainline. (2) I see that you use a solid ring on one end of the leader line that you attach to the lure. So you do not use a barrel rolling swivel in your set-up? If not, why? (3) Don't braided line twist in the water, which if you did not have a barrel rolling swivel connected in the set-up, it affects the natural motion of the lure? (4) Wire leaders to lures? Do you have a video on this procedure? In closing, keep it real and keep jigging. God is good and all the time.

Thanks a million for watching, leaving some great feedback and asking some good questions. I truly appreciate your support for the channel. My leader is always heavier than my main line. For example, 12 lb main line, I use 20 lb fluoro leader. Your leader is there to add strength and protection to your bait connection, and at the same time provide shock absorbancy to help set the hook. I use a solid ring if the lure doesn't spin, except when slow jigging, I'll still use a solid ring then for a more stealthy approach. For lures like spoons, you gotta use a swivel, or you'll get a ton of line twist. braid does twist, yes, but if you have it on a conventional reel, the line is retieved in a straight manner, not a wrapped fashion as a spinner does, so this lessens the twisting. Yes, I do have several videos that showcase how to make wire leaders, just lust up the planer trolling lure or the spoons and those videos show how it is clearly done. Yes I do have a lighter setup... However, my favorite depth is 200-300... So I tend to stay with #30 braid and 200g jigs

I just ordered a slow pitch rod which I will be doing a open box reval on my channel real soon. Just looking for a reel to match up with the rod now. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks a million for watching and sharing. Slow pitch is ultra addictive. Personally, I would wait until you receive your rod, then go reel shopping. I'm biased towards Accurate reels, but Avet makes a great reel to.... then again there's Daiwa, Shimano, Finor.... too many to name. What you want is balance between the rod and reel, some thing that's not too heavy, yet has the line capacity you're looking for based on the jig weight range the rod can handle. You'll want a reel with at least a 4:1 gear ratio, don't go any lower. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your support of the channel. I truly appreciate it. Good luck in your fishing journeys. Question: if you already have a solid ring fastening the assist hooks and the lure, why then have an additional solid ring at the end of your leader line, which forces you link both solids with a split ring..? I learned that you never tie your line to a split ring. Again, you're linkin two solid rings with a split ring, it confused me..

I like to have my SPJ jigs fully rigged... the split ring serves 2 purposes. First it connects the hooks to the jig. Next by having a solid ring on my leader. I can easily swap out jigs by utilizing that split ring. You are correct, never connect your line directly to a split ring. This method is common practice in SPJ. Hope this helps clear things up
