Etymologically speaking, a chef is someone who is the head cook in a professional setting, whether a restaurant, or private employ. The word has the same roots as chief, denoting leadership, thus chef de cuisine, of head of the kitchen. @@PhilBoswell I think they were all at primary and/or high school together, so it’s likely their mums have all known the lads since they were kids... That’s why their banter is always so genuine and top notch... You can’t fake lifelong mates’ chemistry... :)

i wish they had included a demonstration of the skill next to the normals // as ben is explaining it so we can see how stark the difference is (or isn't)

I'm actually really excited for this series, especially the part where they can earn a badge by incorporating a technique in a dish later. Let's see how this goes...

Nice little Monty Python reference there with the “HHHWAFERTHIN”, Ebbers.

I'm sooo rooting for Mike now. Remember guys, this guy beat a chef and made that tower of lasagna.
@neutraltral87573 жыл бұрын
Most of the food these lads concoct is too sophisticated for my palate (which unlike the rest of me seems stuck at about age 7), however that lasagna did look amazing. 🍴 I am also rooting for Mike, who seems to be having a string of bad luck in these competition videos lately.

Also saw y'all's tweet about being unsure if the like a chef series would be brought back hope this comment counts a vote to bringing it up! I've only eaten pancakes every weekend since that video's been released! Would love to see more basic recipes on the channel again

TECHNICAL FINALE: Swedish Princess Cake!!!! And by the by, so, so, so very psyched to see the challenges as you post them!
@adamblessing85283 жыл бұрын
Chef challenge: meat cooking precision. Each normal gets a single steak. Judge them on grill lines, how close they are to medium rare, and seasoning. Jamie will clearly have an edge from steak school but it would still be fun to see.

Thought they were gonna be crowned the "ultimate normal" then realised that was a backhanded compliment.

I've only recently discovered this channel and have been binge watching whenever I get a chance. I must admit after watching this episode anytime I need to chop / prepare food all I hear in my head is Jamie's voice, "Don't get bored, don't get bored, I'm bored". 😂😂😂

One of the most important things I was taught in Culinary School was workspace cleanliness. Everything had a place as to maximize whatever minor space you have. One bowl for raw product; one bowl for cut product; and one bowl for trimmings. A Clean-As-You-Go organization badge would be a great challenge.

Mike should have got the badge for asking for the nozzle and being able to at least pipe his

Except he then didn’t use it properly in the piping bag.

When nobody gets it right, I think it would be fun to see Ben make the example, like the meringue, not just the end product.

Love the idea of this series! I’d like a follow up episode where the chefs go through these techniques themselves and show us how to do them correctly.

I'm so excited for this series! A couple ideas for challenges... Technique: dumplings or wontons, maybe some type of homemade pasta; Creativity: Best dessert presentation; Organization: obviously mise en place, maybe a timed cooking event where you have a lot of ingredients and you're scored on cleanliness of workspace at the end

Noticed one mistake: the graphic showing the standings at the end showed Barry and Jamie having the French Meringue badge rather than the Hollandaise badge. Just a nitpick, but if it impacts continuity it may matter down the road.

At one point they should cook for each other's wife / partner / better half - eg. Jamie cooks for Mike's and Barry's significant others. Final exam should be a full service menu for the families. An ultimate test of organisation, creativity, timing and presentation skills.
