Hello Sam Thank you for this nice video... What did you installed between the two radiators? I was looking some covers but most comes only combined with the radiators cover "which I'm not sure is good for super hot environment like Miami FL". ANY ADVICE? PS: How long takes to install the bars?

This was a mount for the crash bars which goes between the radiators. There is a company in Australia who make one piece radiator guards! I noticed no difference in heat! Bars took around an hour to install

Looks sweet. Having the mounting points for the lights already built in is a great idea. I'm guessing others will start doing that as well.

Bolting the upper guard onto the bracket next to the steering damper (as you have done on your '21 SA and I have done on my '17 SA) is the best solution. Two, parallel and fixed horizontal braces across the front (radiator) gives the lateral stiffness needed to prevent the upper crash bars jamming onto the bodywork after a drop. There are several (expensive) brands that just have the one lateral brace and that ain't enough.

Would probably look better in Orange to break up all the black,but yes certainly look sturdier than the original KTM bars and auxiliary light mount points are a bonus 👍

Hi Sam, thanks for this and all the other videos. It’s great to have someone so enthusiastic creating content featuring the 1290 SAS! If you have time, I have a question for you on the vertical brace that fits to the steering damper bracket. Did you find the cables running out to the front of the bike fitted easily into the cutout of the brace? I seem to be having to force a rigid tube/cable into that notch just to line up the top of the brace. It set me wondering if the cabling will chafe over time. Keep up the good work - I’m looking forward to where you go next with Monkeh. Two up, surely? 😂

Thank you! More than welcome! They are definitely tight to fit into the cutout but I've had no issues with chafing or anything on the wires. I checked them daily almost religiously for a good month or so to make sure! Might be worth putting some rubber edging on it to make sure! Haha yeah! I don't think 9bhp will have much hope 2 up 😂😂

Yeah these cables are so damn tight I’m wondering if something is routed differently. The cables are the only thing preventing everything from lining up and I don’t want to push the rigid section any harder. Even the steering damper was a legend and didn’t expand when I took out both bolts. I need new tyres so I’m going to get a mechanic to reroute the cables and fit the bars at the same time.

Nice!! Glad you've got them on! Once that main bar is in place it's pretty simple! I normally take them off for services to save myself an hour of labour fee so it gets easier! Sooo happy I had them and will get them for every bike I can if possible!

How would you recommend setting up the S4's and D7's (Possibly with amber lenses)? I havent got either yet, nor the bike but Im curious as to how you'd decide whats the best way of making use of the high power D7's alongside the S4's.

If I was going to run both (which I'll likely end up doing at some point), I'd have the S4's on one circuit running 40% in the day like they currently do, then D7's off. Then both come on 100% when I pull the high beam trigger. The D7s are probably too bright to run on low, as my S4s are stupid bright, even on 40%! I think D7 is designed more as a flood light type thing so would be perfect for dark lanes or riding at night

The S4s work really well for dark or rainy conditions, so would be plenty for that from what I'd say. They make the bike so much more visible especially when filtering etc

Have the same outback crash bars got after watching your video.. but impossible to get the skid plate off- no space to undo the front 2 bolts of the skid plate.. how do you manage the take off for oil changes etc

It's really awkward to get into the upper 2 bolts for it but I loosen the bolts for the lower bars in the centre just so I can move them a bit. You might have to loosen the outer ones a bit too. When I have some spare money I'm going to buy the Outback skidplate too which will make it a lot easier

@@SamVBikes actually i got the outback motortek skid plate and had to return it.. it does not fit with my setup. I have the arrow decat headers with akrapovic end can. Seems like the skid plate works only with stock headers. Looking for another alternate skid plate that can fit this setup

I’m concerned if as this bars are more fixed to the frame in case of crash they can transfer the impact force to the chasis? The ktm crash bars moves in case of impact they just blend and displace. But as this motortek you have many bolts in the frame fixation not sure if the bars will displaced or transfer the impact to the frame? Is there any information about this? I think for very slow o parking falls will work better than ktm for sure. But in impacts where you go at for example 30-50km/h in offroad not sure if will translate that to the frame. The ktm crash bars are like a fuse. What do you think?

The KTM crash bars also fix to part of the chassis and engine, so not a huge amount of difference. The OM bars have more mounting points to spread the impact across more points to share the load I've had the misfortune of low-siding the bike with these crash bars on at around 30mph, and had no issues with cracking on the frame or anything. The bike was mostly undamaged besides the exhaust. The off road crashes and drops have caused zero impact to the bike or bars. A drop will be fine with either bars as I've experienced with both, the issue comes from the constant, repeated impacts and grinding that comes with an impact followed by slides Of course there will be instances where a fall will land 'just right' which may cause a frame crack but that can happen with any bars. Personally I'd opt for the most heavily tested bars I can afford

Could you notice any weight difference? I put a stunt cage on a bike once and it was heavy enough I could feel the difference in regular riding.

Nothing that's noticeable. Or at least I havent felt any difference! The bars don't weigh much at all. I suppose if you put it on a lightweight bike you'd notice it far more

Hey pal! I've recently swapped to the SW Motech clamp type mounts and they have been brilliant. Done a few thousand miles and been faultless!

I'm gonna pick up the 2023 SAS. These probably won't fit because of the changes expected with the 17 inch hoops and lower stance. But will keep an eye on them.

Ahh interesting, I didn't think they would make changes that big without launching a complete new iteration. I know there were talks of a Pikes Peak version with those changes. Normally its just colour changes and small tweaks if any, so that will be a big move!

How did you find the quality of the mounting bolts, the heads on mine are the worst i have seen. I am happy with the bars and design, but I will replace every bolt with new ones. The heads will definitely round off. Not what i expect when i pay over $1,000.00 for the product

Errrmm... they were okay. Not the best in the world, but they weren't horrendous. Some were way better than others. I'll probably end up replacing them anyway as I'd like all the bolts to be black, and some aren't. But yes.. I agree!

Question on the crash bars: is the tubing better than the standard KTM bars? Is the weight more substantial as I can't find the total weight of these vs the KT stuff? Keep up the good work fella

Thank you! Haha yeah I got a bit money happy. I unfortunately managed to test these bars out yesterday and I would 1000% recommend them. Took the full brunt of a low-side at 30mph odd and didn't deform, didn't move at all. They have ground down the lower right bar but that can be replaced. The bike is fine other than a scratched up exhaust! I'd say these are thicker than the KTM bars. Weight is a bit more as it's upper and lower, and has the centre bar too, but nothing you'd notice on the road!

No complaints at all! Love them! Fit nicely, look great, feel solid and work as a really good mount for my insta360 haha. I have my valve clearance service in a few weeks so I might take them off rather than KTM charging £80 an hour to work out how they come off and go back on though 😂

I once went from looking at a Audi RS4 at 50k and ended up buying a Porseche GT3 CS for 90k, it a few easy steps on autotrader… this is only a couple of grand more than that and you get x, repeat and yep, the budge is blown but ‘legitimately’ 👍

They aren't much more difficult to remove than the stock KTM PowerParts ones once that bar is fitted so hopefully not the case. If it costs an extra hours labour, that will be far less than the cost it will save if I ever throw it down the tarmac!

@@SamVBikes OK, fair enough! 👍🏻 This hit a nerve with me now because I stripped my SAS down to the air box three times in a row the last few days… first to get the Denali S4s and the split Sound Bomb installed… the second time to install the green cable (that I completely forgot about) that goes from the hexEZcan to the original horn and than a third time to free the cable of the fuel gauge that I managed to get stuck under the tank but I realized this only before mounting the last part, the glove box! 🙈😅

As lame as it sounds, I've been following these crash bars for a few years. It's always interested me how companies sell glorified scaffolding saying they are crash bars, then you see someone come off with them on and they offer barely any protection or just fold into the fairing causing more damage. Outback Motortek have been on my list for years because of the way they test and are open about their develpment. Especially like that they wouldn't out a product on the market with the KTM bars because the KTM ones weren't good enough. If I'm going to have crash bars, I want them to minimise damage in a crash, not just look cool haha!
