Different levels of various guides are fine.

@ThePhilosophersGames2 жыл бұрын
No problem, hapyp you found it useful Yes I thought this would be the most useful approach. The problem might be that it takes too much time making guides like these this way. You have to record all the attacks (some are very rare), you have to develop a strategy for dodging them, etc. Makes a guide like this time consuming to produce (which might be why I only made few of them for my channel). Esp. the boss that usually might make a guide interesting for people, are also the most complex bosses with tons of moves as well.

Good guide. My issue with Midir and why I don't think he's a good boss is for 2 reasons. The fact he doesn't really have any weaknesses outside of taking a little more damage when you hit his head and having a fairly large hitbox, mixed with his massive health pool. The health pool would normally be fine, I dealt with it no problem in Bloodborne and it can work well in dark souls 3 as well, for example Gael has a high health pool but he gives you breathing room and can even be staggered after several hits. Meanwhile Midir takes and insane amount of hits and can kill you in literally 2 or 3 hits and even 1 shot you. The boss isn't technically that hard but there's stuff that causes the fight to go on and on and eventually you're going to make a mistake.
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. Midir is a very binary boss. Don't get hit and hit his head once after dodging until he is dead. There is not much else you can do (at least melee). All you do, is just waiting for his attacks. And in Souls and esp. DaS3 there are many bosses like that, but they are usually not as punishing as Midir + only be able to effectively hit his head, limits your options tremendously. If you don't hit his head, you drag the fight on forever and create more opportunities for you making mistakes. I really dislike the one body part weakness design in this case. I think that is this boss designs biggest problem (ofc changing this would need a more complex move set for Midir).
@roryos6 жыл бұрын
It's also annoyingly one of the boss fights in the game that's actually harder when you summon a phantom since you can only get the occasional hit in on him with an even bigger health pool, and also the fact that he's changing targets which can really mess you up and you're more likely to get hit by his devastating attacks.

@hoffa90006 жыл бұрын
He is a giant dragon what did you expect? Not to mention he is the last Dragon Boss of the Souls Series, best make him difficult otherwise it would be too disappointing. He also gives you tons of breathing room for healing, since all of his combos have 2-3 second delays in between. I agree though that the head weakspot is ridiculous, but then again he does bring his head down low for you to hit, and it is common knowledge the head is a good weakspot. And how would you stagger a dragon? He was the literal descendant of the archdragons, he wont be so easily staggered as Gael. And he can be staggered, if you put pressure on his head long enough.

For me, it's not as bad as Friede. Against her I get so angry and frustrated. But when I die to Midir I don't. Why? Friede is extremely unpredictable (unless you fought her a million times, of course, but I'm talking as a casual player here). Midir telegraphs his movements extremely well and it feels like, if I get hit, it's because of me and not because of a randem quick attack.

I disagree. Me and my cousin have been getting stomped by Midr on our new game + run, and our closest efforts so far have been where I - a strength build - bait his head and get the big hits in, while my cousin runs under and dexes his tail continuously. I agree though, the only downside is the damn tail swipe catching me as he spins around to go after my cousin. We had him down to less than a quarter HP last night and that's exactly how I died.
@LOTRTROTK4 жыл бұрын
@@pinealdreams1064 I fight him alone though and if titles were a thing in DS3 I'd be a dragon slayer since I help hosts fight Midir, Oceiros and Nameless King. The only reason I stopped is because I kept getting summoned as that damned half light sissy. I wish there was an option to just redo a boss fight in the bonfire or something. Here's a funny story and maybe the host who summoned me might recognize this. I had one instance where a host just sat on the farthest corner of the cave, which I prefer to be honest, and let me destroy Midir taking probably a couple of hits. Then when he was about to die, at the corner of my screen I saw the host racing me for the last hit and he got comboed to death. Then he summoned me again and performed the gesture where he falls to the ground to tell me that he fucked up and I gave him the clap gesture. After that we went down again this time he just watched as a did the same thing. That said, I fought Midir probably 50 times before his patterns have been ingrained in me that now he feels slow but always fun. Head is the best way and I've probably killed him a few hundred times by myself.

My Friede skils are decent enough, so I did not struggle that much against her. But SoC was a horrible experience. Just noted what a slog fest this boss fight is in the Level 1 run. It often offers very little reward for good dodging and movement (except for the mage phase), so often you just hit him once and it does not getter in phase 2. Was a terrible fight for me. I loved grinding the Gael fight, because it's just a fun fight, but SoC was a horrible experience. I beat him without prisoner's chain and only used an ember in phase 2 (I think there was one attack I could survive with the ember there), but it took me like 15 hours to beat him. The longest so far.

@@ThePhilosophersGames Like an idiot, I did SL1 on my second playthrough so I had a lot to learn on Friede. I have no idea what prisoners chain is so I did it without that as well. @ThePhilosophersGames2 жыл бұрын
Prisoner's Chain is a ring, you get for beating Champion Gundyr. It "Increases Vigor, Endurance, and Vitality by 5, but reduces Absorptions by 4%." So you get 5 levels of Vigor for free + ember you get quite a bit health, which increases your survivability significantly. The 4% less damage absorption is completely negligible. On top of that it gives you Endurance and Vitality. So basically 15 levels worth of stats 😅 Completely insane ring. But makes Level 1 quite a bit easier, so I did not use it until later and there you are again one hit anyway a lot of times 😅

The going into detail showing each individual attack with cut footage alongside it and how to react is very useful on a fight like this. This is my favorite fight, similar to the dragon DLC fight in DS1, and the dragon DLC fight in DS2. I guess I like them the most because it's less about perfectly timing a nonsensical invincible roll in response to an enemy telegraphing a swing, but holding it way too long, and which will do a full 360 locked onto you in the air. Here is my strategy: Strength/faith build, dragonslayer greataxe +5. Survive the first phase by staying in front of his head like you said, try to bait his claw/bite attacks or run away if he is spitting fire. Second phase try to get his laser attack, avoid it by sprinting left of the initial laser and then sprint to the right of his head after to avoid explosion damage During the cooldown, smack him twice with the special attack. This will stagger him. Do a critical attack (hornet ring!). Likely his health pool melted away by then, requiring only a couple of hits at most to burn his remaining health.

I'm surprised this video doesn't have more views. Your advice is spot on..............patience is the name of the game
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) My channel is quite small (it was even far smaller when I made the guide), so I still consider it a huge success. One reason could be, that only few people actually play through a Souls game, fewer buy the DLCs and even fewer play to fight Midir and looking up a guide on the internet. Also e.g. the guys from Fextralife get a lot of traffic through embedding their guide directly into the wiki, so I don't have the same amount of exposure. Still surprised their video has almost 400k to be honest.
@aalinkil20656 жыл бұрын
The game is quite popular even now with the current sale prices. Invaded a few people in the dlc today with no wait time XDD I saw the fextralife video, it didn't really make sense to me so i didn't even try it :P. The way you edit them along with the moveset and explaining each counter is really helpful. Just a thought for future guides..........you could post a link to the video in the comments sections of wiki i think, cause a lot of times the comments in the wikis are great for help...at least in my experience.
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
Yes, Dark Souls has grown in popularity ^^ Probably I underestimate this a bit, esp. when cheap sales are often available. That's not a bad idea. Thank you for the hint :)

great guide i struggled about 1 hour trying to kill him with a bad weapon (sharp great corvian scythe - around 400ar but doing 192 damage per hit in the head), changed to sellsword and watched this video, down in the first try the tips about rolling through the fire and how to dodge both dark beam and flying flame was crucial

Thank you SO much for this guide. I was struggling so much with Midir on NG+2 and I didn't want to respec for Pestilent Mercury. I followed your advice and was able to beat him. He actually lazered at the end, but I was actually able to get near him, got the crit in, used up all estus and 1 ember, and he finally went down! Such a wonderful guide for such an incredible Boss battle @ThePhilosophersGames. I hope I can do this for NG+7

happy it worked out so well for you :) Yes I think a lot of Dark Souls' difficulty is based on the player lacking knowledge, which is why playing it can feel so rewarding. When you learn, things you struggled with or thought to never accomplish can suddenly become almost easy and it feels like you have become better (which is true too). Good luck on your further journey ^^

I dunno how people can say this is easy, complex mechanics cause of the varied attacks hence a 13 minute video guide, but great work man thx for your help, I should really write it all down
@ThePhilosophersGames7 жыл бұрын
I would say in theory, he should be easy, but in reality he is definitely not easy. He punishes little mistakes extremely hard and the fight takes for ever, so you have a lot of time for mistakes.

The hardest part is chasing him around the arena. I used the Dragon Crest Shield + Black Knight Greataxe, shielding most of the fire attacks really made a difference for me. You can also block the dash, although it consumes most of your stamina, but there's enough time afterwards for it to recharge.

I've been trying to beat this boss for a very long time, and just can't beat him. This is probably the best video I've seen that is the most useful & helpful, Thanks. I don't know how successful I'll be, but I will try again. At this point, I'm getting frustrated and pessimistic.
@ThePhilosophersGames7 жыл бұрын
Midir is very good at punishing mistakes and putting you into a loop of healing and receiving damage again. At the same time it takes a very long time to beat him, which makes this fight difficult. Finding out what attacks you have the most problems with avoiding and not getting greedy is key to beat him. I wish you good luck, you can do it. Maybe use 1-2 tries just for avoiding attacks without attacking, that always helps me a lot. PS: also thank you =)

Excellent guide. Nearly just the way I did it. I want to add that one can also dodge the sweeping fire breath attack at 6:56 by running to his right if dodging through it is not an option. That way you can still punish him afterwards.

I just beat him only because he started sandbagging in the second phase, I was out of estus when he was around ~35% hp and he did his super long laser move and just fell on the ground as if he was tired, gave me the time to do a ton of damage and then I even got a riposte on him for even more damage. From 35% hp to a oneshot just from that interaction. just a quick slap on the toe and he was dead at that point. Praise our lord and saviour Midir for going easy on me. Edit: The guide also really fucking helped a ton, so ty for that.
