This one feature alone is reason to go with the Viofo A139. I know which one I am getting now. Might want to start with this feature first next time, save yourself a lot of trouble :) Excellent video my Good Sir, excellent video!
@patrickmunits10 ай бұрын
As early as twelve years ago this was solved by permanently wiring then top-of-the-line Blackview through a low-voltage-protector to a battery and using a proper quality SD Card. If the dashcam runs all the time and you get two days worth of recording then your only concern is leaving your car at a long-term parking (i.e. airport). However, you get no blackouts in recordings and you can actually have a more usable per pixel data out of your recordings. To me this is of more importance than the convenience of sensors trying to decided for your what is important to record. Dashcams will continue to evolve. They remain far from perfect.

Exactly. Someone can easily hit you, freak out, and be gone in the 11-12 seconds it takes the other camera to kick in.
@josephcullen25127 ай бұрын
The vantrue n4 actually does this too when it's hardwired to an external battery or the car's battery. On its Amazon page it says it records continuously in low bitrate mode and then saves a buffer when it's triggered. Vantrue have a hardwire accessory that doesn't cost too much and has low voltage protection. But because the camera is powered by a 5v USB C input, you could also power it from any USB power bank with just a regular USB cable or any other battery with an adapter

What an excellent overview. I doubt most people appreciate the skill and effort required to present information clearly and logically -- much less with the added challenge of using video as the presentation medium. I've been shopping for a dash cam system for the last 5 years and never made a purchase because (1) it was overwhelming to compare/contrast all the features and positive/negative reviews; and (2) the perfect one was not yet available in the U.S. -- although more advanced versions with a full feature set were readily available in Europe. Based on this thorough and informative overview, I think I'm ready to make a purchase -- even though one camera still does not have all the features I need and want.

@@ganjabobby There are distinctions between the two though, they are not the same thing. When you sell something, you choose who you're doing business with. The party you agree to sell it to gives you an agreed upon sum of money which you get to keep. You give them the agreed upon item which they get to keep. When you auction something off (for charity or not) the highest bidder gets to keep the item, you don't get to decide or control who that is or who was even eligible to bid. Point is, auctioning != selling. The two terms are not directly interchangeable. For as bad as what happened is, how much worse it would be if they called EK, AlphaCool, BitsPower, Corsair or any other liquid cooling manufacturer directly and sold it to them, or if they listed it on their own store as a 1 of 1 sale item that anyone could have bought? THAT is selling, and that'd be exponentially worse Yes, it sucks for Billet labs either way, especially if their prototype happens to wind up with one of their competitors (either from auction directly or by buying it off of the winner) and no, it should have never happened.

Great testing - please keep up the excellent work. One variable that comes to mind is the glass of the windscreen, specifically that directly in front of the lens of the individual camera being tested. Sure the windscreen can be thoroughly clean inside and out, but with this level of scrutiny at the extremes of the camera’s capabilities variations in manufacturing can mean there may be small areas of the windscreen that distort the acquired image more than others. I realise you may have taken this into account in your testing by using exactly the same part of the windscreen for every test. Otherwise it may be worth considering a way to more closely analyse the effect of this on the test results. One obvious way I guess would be to switch the positioning of the cameras giving the worst results with those giving the best and re-running the tests. Like I said you may have accounted for this already. Also… Relying on the test result of a single sample of each product introduces another potential variable, that of quality control. You can have 2 makers with the same level of QC but a bad sample from either May unfairly skew the result. Having just 2 samples of each would go a long way toward offsetting this issue. Two identical results (good or bad) from 2 samples of the same product would carry much more weight than only the one. I realise this has a significant effect of the testing process but definitely warrants consideration.

Thank you so very much for this video!!! This is the BEST video on dash cams that I have seen in YEARS! This video alone just earned my subscription. The way the text just pops out of license plates on the Vantrue N4 Pro 3ch is just NUTS!! Absolutely amazing; literally is just like magic! Especially when that guy whizzed by you at 50mph or whatever it was! Just a few questions: do they make a Vantrue N4 Pro 1ch that has that same license plate pop out HDR type of feature with higher bitrate? Have you tested one? Do those have the ability to connect to the internet/"cloud"?

lol the LTT community has a track record for being pretty pathetic. thanks for your amazing content as always, you often cover many things that other channels completely leave out or they dont even consider to look at. and your reviews are always very practical... your old led videos and motor blinds videos are some of my favorites.

I wouldn't waste my time watching LTT let alone take advice from Linus. The Hook Up is my #1 source for technology product reviews.

I still watch their more entertainment focused videos but after Linus's awful take on Anker and Eufy I don't watch their "informative" videos anymore

Fantastic review, thank you so much for all of your hard work and dissection of this maddening dash cam world.

The LTT video was really bad and misleading. The fact that he said tou should just get a gopro shows how little research they did. Gopros recording in 4k can overheat so easily even at room temperature, let alone a hot windshield. And who wants to have to start and stop the GoPro every time you drive? The looping function GoPro offers isn't like the way dash cams or security cameras loop video files.

Oh an LTT review with bad info, where have I seen this one before.

My ITRONICS mid-priced dash cam from 2012 had a 5 second cache in parking mode, so whatever kicked it off-visual, audio, or motion (yes, any of them...even tiny movements at night) whatever caused the capture was in the vid. The resolution, night and day, was very good. Here we are in 2024 and now we get added gadgetry and price and not much else...with some units having no time cache at all.

Speed limit on Bayshore is 35... "Car passed me going about 50mph..." Yep, that checks out! lol.

I am also interested in the very high-quality Garmin 4K dash cam. It may be the longest-lasting, most reliable cam out there. I still have one of their NAV units that is more than 12 years old - still works perfectly.
