This video was definitely a reality check and was very fun to watch. I feel reassured my current edc could probably pass most of the challenges, but it would definitely flunk at the bolts and torx challenges. Maybe it's my sign to switch from Swiss Armies to plier-based multitools, but either way, I appreciate the realism of this challenge and it's given me food for thought to consider how I can improve my own edc.

The Victorinox Swisstool and Spirit are my favorite multitools. I pair up the Swisstool and the Compact swiss army knife and they make a great edc. I also like to edc a Rogan prybar, rovyvon aurora flashlight, knipex 100mm pliers, and some wiha double sided bits. I think I could have won this challenge 😂

Nuts guys; sick, and damn cool! Loved the idea, plus the presentation rocked. Well done. I think the principle could be expanded to include to test other important items. SCISSORS (rounding the corners of a 3"×5" index card while holding it in the air [because we can't always utilize a flat service to aid in cutting tasks].) LASHING MATERIALS (two dowels to be lashed together with paracord, zip ties, etc [also note here knot-making efficiency; timed, and scored also on security of knots].) FIRE (1. working lighter, or 2. tools adequate to throw sparks, plus tinder material on possession) FILE (Round the sharp corner on a piece of metal.) SAW (Saw through 1/2" dowel) AWL (Bore a clean hole through a 1/2 sheet of wood.) DRINKING CONTAINER, 16oz min. POWER BANK with cableing. NOTE-TAKING CAPACITY. (Pad of paper, etc.) A MARKER (Test on wax paper) 1 LITER EXTRA CARRY CAPACITY (Any means of hands free storage capacity of a 1 liter item [as in extra room in a sling bag, etc].) TWEEZERS (Pluck a pellet out of a hole too narrow for pliers) INSET RATCHET NUT (most common sized nut very snugly tightened, PLUS inset, thus too awkwardly for pliers; rewards those carrying a mini ratchet set.) These are just a few ideas, I'm sure innumerable other ideas exist. Finally, weight all tasks numerically based on difficulty (maybe totalling 100), so that each contestant achieves a ranking based on their grand total. Whether or not you choose include with the swag of prizes a leather bound, signed "Preparonator Certificate of Excellence" for those scoring over, say, 75 points, is completely up to you. :-)

I would love to see more of this! Fantastic setup. Maybe there would be a way to incorporate some sort of tiny task where you need precision and a larger task like pulling a 16 penny nail. You could also have a bonus like having a fake cut on your hand and they have to have something to cover or close the cut.

My EDC is a pocket knife, pliers multi-tool, torch and pen. So I was ok I got most of this, 4 of my multitools have bit kits so that's going to be a mood on the day thing. Then I remember I'm always wearing my tread (I do forget it's there until I need it) so I got the nut & bolt.

What a great idea! Add a lighter challenge to re- seal the end of that poly rope…. I think I would have a good shot at completing your challenge if those bolts are no bigger than 1/2” (capacity of the 4” Cresent wrench). My pocket organizer stores a Leatherman Crunch, small Cresent, Hoto screw driver, Olight Arkfeld, and the pen is in my wallet custom Swiss Card. The weakest part would be the hemp rope vs my Bugout Mini (or the Crunch serrated blade). I look forward to the next refinement of the Preponator.

This was an awesome idea. We had been doing something similar, but not on video. Ours did not use a tube light test. I was mean, and just turned out the lights in the room, then let them do the test. Edc by its very definition is what you carry everyday, not what you would have had at work or in your garage. It’s with you every waking hour and within arms length when you’re in bed. So “my work edc” is a contradiction in terms.
@EDC_Soldier Жыл бұрын
@@MrDkgio no kidding guy. I carry different stuff in my pockets and on my belt when I'm at work and at home or out running errands. It's a very common practice in the EDC community to have different setups for different scenarios. My "Work EDC" is the stuff I carry on me every day when I'm at work, not something from a tool room or garage, so shut up with your ignorant pedantic BS. You don't get to define what EDC means for everyone else. If you want to restrict yourself that way, fine, but the rest of us aren't that strict with definitions. Also, "arms length when you're in bed" like WTF dude, are you ok?
@EDC_Soldier Жыл бұрын
@@MrDkgioit's only a contradiction of YOUR terms, and fortunately for me, I don't have to be constrained by your arbitrarily narrow definition. I bet you're really fun at parties 🙄
@MrDkgio Жыл бұрын
@@EDC_Soldier Sorry it’s right there in the name EVERY DAY CARRY, those are not my terms, it’s the English language. Look up the Definition’s of those words, “every day” means ALL of the days, “carry” means it’s on your person. So your original statement should have been “I would have failed miserably at this challenge because I don’t carry my shit outside of work”

My skeletool plus torx bit could do all this, exept the writing, double plier and flashlight challange. You don’t really need much else for anything, if you have a quality multitool with a good knife, plier and screwdriver.

In my day to day... I don't carry pliers as I don't need them for work and have a tool bag in the van for the occasional emergency. Were I traveling/flying I might have my Knipex and Leatherman Wave if I checked a second bag as I'd be outside of my normal day to day. As is - my daily on person carry... Several knives, custom Victorinox Yeoman, Prybar, and Worksharp pocket sharpener with torx bits would get most except the nuts and bolts as they just aren't something I deal with even monthly. (But I could generally run to my van for tools if needed.)

Super fun video! Reminds me of nutnfancys old gear check vids.. except this is excellent having people demonstrate. I feel like if i was at a knife show, id have my full carry on me (to show off) and i reckon id be able to do it all. If my everyday at home carry? All but the 2 sided bolt ones. ✌️

hmmm... I take that back. I might have been able to do the nut/bolt thing. My pry tool has a spot for using as a wrench. So if it were the right size and I used that plus the pliers on my multi-tool I think maybe I'd get them all!

Here are 10 things to add to the board to make it an even better EDC test: Cans Opener: bring cleaned empty food cans have them open a few inches along the bottom Candle: light it up. Chain link fence wire strands: Cut at least 2-3 times to show you could get through fence without tool failure (Swiss Tool will cut once but then deform and is done). Honey: Put dab on board and make them clean it off to simulate bad day in toilet with no toilet paper. Wound dressing: Large knife cut wound area on shoulder. Show what you would use to stop bleeding. Ice Cream test: Bring cooler with dry ice and mini cups of frozen solid ice cream (only quality spork will survive, no plastic spoon) Recharge test: recharge cell phone they are carrying Cordage test: Simulation is someone hit your parked car and piece of body panel is rubbing on tire. Show what you would use to tie it up. Compass test: Which way is north? Credit Card failure: Show at least $100 emergency cash.

After watching this video, I came out with my 5 basic rules for an EDC which i like to call it CLASS (or Cut Light Aid Screw Saw). Basically, you need something to cut, something to light your way, some First Aid kit, something to screw and then saw. From here you can expand it, for example, to cut you can have something to simply cur rope or strings and something to cut wire. To screw you can use the basic screw for flat and star, or also include torx. The derivation can be unlimited but you should always start with the basic CLASS. Maybe someone came up already with this but i swear i though while cleaning leaves in my back yard today after watching the video. lol. I added AID too as i wonder how many of the people on the video carried something as simple as a band aid for cuts. you would thing is the second most popular item in a place full of sharp things :)
