The moonraker is great, the only challenge is adjusting the height, I just got both for that reason 😂

The BH's needles are always in the same place with each rotation, creating grooves - exactly what you don't want to prevent channeling. In terms of the end result, definitely Moonraker - for commercial use could be the BH more practical.

Recently I have been grinding a little courser and doing a lower pressure of extraction. Like 6 bar seems to be sweeter and more forgiving.

Definitely helps and the results are more consistent too.

What about just doing it by hand? I like to rake the top.

Basically same result just slower. Once you get the hand of it and can do it repeatedly, doing it by hand works great.

The Moonraker is amazing as soon as you lubricate the internals, then you just have to use one finger to spin it. From what I hear in your video, it is not lubricated and it's grinding because of metal-to-metal contact. Give it a try, you will see how amazing and smooth it gets!

Will do! I normally go for one finger but have to keep it really clean as any stuck ground makes it slightly jam.

Thank you for your video. I found it very helpful. Do these tools work if you are using espresso filter paper on the bottom? Also, I was curious about the grinder you chose, did you consider the weber EG-1, and if so what made you choose the 01?
@FerchoVallese
@FerchoVallese 7 ай бұрын
They do work with filter paper on the bottom. Just try to keep the needles about 2mm from the bottom of the basket when adjusting the tool. I did consider the EG-1 as I have the Key and other WW accessories. However, I didn't have the best experience with the Key. For such an expensive grinder I have tons of stalling with light roasts, as well as alignment issues. Other tools from WW also didn't work at the level the price suggests. Decided to go with the Lagom 01 mostly because everywhere I read people praised about how amazing Option-O customer service was.. When you're spending at this level you really don't want to have to deal with customer service that seems to suggest the user is the issue (even though a lot of times we probably are). Whenever I contacted Option-O they were just fully on "solution mode". I like this approach.

@@FerchoVallese Hi again. Yes, that has been my exact experience with Option-O. They are amazing! I have a Lagom Mini and love it. However, I had an issue with it this past summer and Option-O were tireless in helping me resolve the issue. They ended up sending me a whole new grinder! That customer service, and the delightful cups I get from the Lagom Mini pushed me to the 01 more so than the EG-1. I do have some Weber Workshops items and I do love what I have, but when a small issue arises, their response time is slow and then condescending. Still, I think they are making incredible products but like you said, when one is buying such an expensive grinder, you want to be able to have a good relationship with the company you are dealing with. Thanks again for your comments.

I have had non stop issues with the autocomb. Can’t maintain the height, bearing jams up. Doesn’t seem like it was designed with longevity in mind.

The group head handle is actually a WDT tool from Pesado. Then I got a screw that fits on both the decent and the tool. Check here: facebook.com/share/p/y7DeetdZs9At6KmG/

I have some issues with these very high priced overly fancy WDT tools They all want to seem very apple-like, premium, top of the range and best performance. But in reality they usually use somewhat expensive materials, that feel heavy and "nice, then coat it in a preium feeling finish, but they often seem to make lots of small mistakes Gaps, weird fits, fundamental engineering problems, quality control, daily use problems etc IMO there are too many problems and the outcome is not that better than comparable less expensive manual ones. The very high prices seem like just a way to have tons of margin and creating a premium business image, without ACTUALLY being all that premium

Agree with you up to a point! However, I do think the Autocomb can really help in commercial settings, where barista rotation is an issue and you can't really control how everyone is using a standard WDT tool.

Do you still use a distributor tool or only wdt ?
@FerchoVallese
@FerchoVallese 6 ай бұрын
No, stopped using a distributor when started using a WDT with thin needles (like the Pesado WDT). I also own a Flair 58 and use only the WDT and a normal tamper with great results.
