Ultimate Fence Charging System for Portable Fencing. In this video, Tim talks to us about designing your own hybrid fence charging system. This system will work on plug-in AC power, battery DC power, or solar! No matter where you are or what you are doing, this charging set-up has plenty of power to get it done.

Dude, I don't know why you don't have a million plus subscribers. Please, don't be discouraged because you really are a jem. Someone should give you your own station or show on HGTV or something.

Educational material isn’t always as much fun to watch as some of the farm channels. Plus, we don’t always tell people what they want to hear. For a channel I started on accident, I’m pretty happy. I have a full time job and do this because I enjoy helping people and our farm. If I had 3 subscribers, I would still do it. I get a lot of grief from other producer friends for doing my live streams because I spend a lot of time and don’t get a lot of views. It’s all good. We refuse to take sponsorship so that is a huge part of the problem. If we were willing to turn the channel into a commercial for products, we would get a lot more help and $$$. Thanks for watching our videos. You are appreciated.

Thanks for the video! This set up looks great. I wonder, have you looked into wind energy at all? I've done a little research (barely scratched the surface) because I get SO MUCH wind, especially in the winter months when there is less sun available for solar. I'm hoping to be able to power my shed using wind, or maybe hybrid wind and solar to make up for those summer months when there's no wind. The deep cycle battery sounds perfect for handling those randomly high/low moments of charging.

Hello, April. I haven’t really looked into wind too much. We went with the solar so we can transport it wherever the fence goes but I think wind would work if you were using it to charge batteries at a place like your barn. Unfortunately, wind turbines need strong anchoring and I just don’t know if I could come up with a strong enough base to make a reliable portable system. I will keep you posted on how our solar charger does in the winter. We live in an area with high winds and a high amount of wind turbines.

Tim, I took your advice and purchased a DC battery with Speed rite 3000. So far its working fine, I believe my next purchase is the solar panel. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for your advice and videos.

That’s great! We have had really good luck with ours and it’s been in full time operation for over 3 years. Keep us posted on how things are going for you once you get the solar panel on. 👍🏻

@@LinessaFarms Have you had any freezing rain or ice accumulation to contend with on the mobile fence? If so how did it hold up?

@@MAM-cy3yy it will hold up fine, however it will start shorting out of it starts getting coated with ice or snow. We usually take down our portable fencing in the late fall when the animals come back to dry lot.

I have about 10-solar panels (about 2'6" x 4'6") I salvaged from a tornado damage insurance claim job I worked on. I'm hoping I can make some of them work for this type application.

Thanks for posting this. Nice follow up to my query in your previous fencing video. Conceptually, I figured this would work, but seeing your setup in action, especially with the weed load, was very instructive. I've been experimenting with an AC Cyclops energizer at home with poultry netting, but our farm property is remote and off-grid, so I was thinking of doing a centralized deep cycle + PV panel + DC energizer to light up a single hot wire around the perimeter that I could then use to power mobile fencing (poly braid or netting) to support rotational grazing. Looks like you have a pretty big deep cycle battery (my back aches...). My remaining question would be how many days of inclement weather (cloudy) before you start getting nervous about the PV keeping up with the load. That's probably something I'll need to figure out for my weather/latitude. Ditto the appreciation expressed below.

Cyclops energizer are very reliable historically. Without the solar charger our deep cycle batteries (Walmart) will last 2 weeks on standard speed before they are dead. We would always swap them at 1 week though. This is powering 14, 150ft premier1 10/48/6 fences (total 2100ft). I can get you the specifics on the batteries if you need it.

Awesome video. Thanks for your effort. Have you tried 2x 6v battery in series vs 1x 12v? Higher output, quicker charge, lower chance of going to zero (degradation) and longer time to stay above 20%.
@LinessaFarms

Hello. We don’t have any issues with the system staying charged, it’s in float a large majority of the time. As far as output, the fence charger is going to regulate the shock so I don’t know. With that being said, for individuals running other equipment or multiple chargers off the single system, using it in winter, etc… that might help. I honestly don’t know enough about the nuts and bolts of how it all works to make a statement. 😬 Thank you for taking the time to share this information, I’m sure it will help some folks out. 👍🏻

We are currently running 14, 150’ rolls (2100’) of premier 1 permanet 10/48/6 on the charger we showed and measured in the video. This is our entire 4 paddock rotational grazing setup at our home location.
