I love to use my original Aeropress with a Fellow Prismo (and a paper filter) to give me the benefits of the inverted method, with none of its downsides: I.e. no loss of capacity or danger of some kind of hot water accident. Making coffee for just me, 20g of coffee and 295g of water is a perfect amount. If it’s me and my wife, I have to make a second batch. Sometimes that’s nice, as we always split each batch and it means I can have two different coffees to start my day. But it would also be nice to sometimes only have to make one batch for the both of us. As such, the XL is very interesting to me. I reached out to Fellow, when news of the XL first surfaced, to see if an XL Prismo was in the works. They replied, but unfortunately, they had no plans to make an upsized Prismo. I wonder if Aeropress themselves will upsize their own. Or will I have to get one off of Etsy?

Been using aeropress for many yrs now. Definitely my favorite way to make coffee. I got the xl version to play around with. I make a 20 oz black coffee every morning. I figured with the xl I can run almost all the water through the grind with one go. And you definitely can. It tasted terrible to me. Had a bad grassy aftertaste. Tried several different beans and roasts levels. I roast my own so its easy. Did not like the results of running all the water through. So I did a concentrate like I do with the original and man was it good. All was right with the world again. I now think the xl makes a better cup than the original. I think one reason is the puck of coffee or bed of coffee however you want to call it is thinner. The height of the bed is less. Therefore the water doesn’t have to go as far in the bed to exit. I think it picks up less of the off flavors to me. I make a bigger concentrate with the xl. So less dilution water is needed. I dont like calling that bypass. Bypass and dilution are two different things. Bypass is water that escapes around your bed and doesn’t extract for you while brewing. The aeropress is absolutely a zero bypass product. Dilution is water added after brewing to fine tune the strength of your brew. The recipe I found that works for me is to grind medium fine 32 grams. Use the normal brew vertical method. I pour 190 degrees water to the 6 mark on the xl. I stir and let sit till the crust forms. Then I stir again. At 1:30 seconds total time almost half the water has dripped out on its own. Then I press the rest out. I then dilute till Im at about 19 oz. This ratio is really nice black. I roast most beans to about medium dark. Full city plus. Love the xl now. Cant wait till the pressure cap is made for them. Love the one on my original AP.

Oh I gotta get one of those! I have 4 regular aeropress makers. Blow the cold brew through it super fast.

100% the cold brew would be amazing - with the extra capacity you could make so much more of it 👌

Josh, with the greatest respect, this is an embarrassment - the problems are many! Firstly, unless the user is extremely careful, they are in danger of spilling a lot of very hot water everywhere - including their skin. The finished product looks very weak, Conduct this simple test to determine if your brew is too weak: Shine a torch-light through the glass, if the beam travels through the glass and out the other side, then you have failed. What you don't say is if you use a finer grind, much more force is required to press down on the plunger. I guess you used a course grind for this demo as the brew looked like tinted water! And paper filters may remove sediment, but you also remove most of the beneficial oils and flavours - not good!

Thanks for your comments 👍 I understand - perhaps I didn't do quite a good enough job at suggesting that you can make an AeroPress however you like. And that's one of its greatest benefits - that it's so adaptable. ~ I do think I say this though 🤔 Also: at 3:32, I did not fail to specifically talk about avoiding a fine grind, and how it will make things more difficult. In terms of the coffee colour. It's a grey area of assumptions until you taste the brew. This one you see in the video - was of a light roast coffee - that had very fresh summery fruit flavour notes -, not my typical brew - and recommended a similar brew recipe to the one I used in the video - upscaled. Tasted insanely sweet, clean and vibrant (not like coffee 😂 ) alas - the colour had no detriment to the experience.
