@Jones4Leather Жыл бұрын
I am a leather repair professional. DO NOT IRON OR STEAM LEATHER. - high heat shortens the life of your leather. Leather is 98% collagen protein fibers that that begin to suffer damage at 145° F. It is permanent damage that causes the fibers to shorten and tighten. An iron on the cotton setting is 150°to 200° F and steam is 212° F. The short-term results come at a long-term cost that you may never connect intuitively. But the fibers you subject to heat are the area that is subject to the most stress from bending.

I did this and it was successful first i wet the spot on my boot that was indented/creased and rubbed the water in with my fingers a little I used a 100% cotton towel/cloth (because the iron has the ability to melt synthetic material) I soaked the cloth with water and laid it over the spot of the boot i pressed the hot iron over the layer of the wet cloth for about 3 seconds and then moved the cloth out of the way to see the effect after seeing that nothing bad happened i held the iron over the layer of cloth on the boot in short bursts, and checked to see if i liked the progress when i was satisfied with the improvement i dried the wet spot on the boot as best as i could with a dry towel and then let the boot sit to dry Before i did this i practiced ironing on a pair of pants, cause i have never used an iron before, i recommend a little warm up on something other than your boot Edit: i noticed this stretched out the boot I steamed in comparison to the one i didn't steam

Very impressed - especially with the crease removal process! Any advice for me? I want to potentially dye red full grain (or half grain, I can't tell!) soft 1980s leather lace-up boots from a dull straight red to an oxblood colour. Here in the UK there is an array of dye products to pick from, but I think perhaps a stain would be better than a vinyl dye, which only covers the leather. Is there any prep I should do? Appreciate any advice.

I do it just with any hair conditioner (in white color). Just brush, clean n apply the hair conditioner. For strong marks in the leather u can get it off even with a school eraser. But you needa know that doin it ur shoe leather color may change. In my case from yellow mustard to caramel, that is, get darker.

The one step I don’t like is polish. Sorry but polish is dress/office shoes. Polish is such a pain to get off and ruins the look of the leather. I got a pair of awesome 899s from the 80s, and it was a total pain to remove all the polish some fool globbed on. Saddle soap did nothing, had to resort to alcohol. But after all that and some conditioner, the oro-russet came back beautifully.
